Guest guest
I was told on another group that you can gain weight if you are not on enough T3 because we are hypoT. Just yesterday I added another 50mcg of time-released T3 per my doctor so I take it twice a day and today I weighed myself and I lost 2#. NOW tomorrow I may gain it back, maybe I ate less yesterday but usually it is very difficult for me to budge the weight. So to lose 2# in one day is pretty significant for me. Guest guest
Hi Veizia, Thanks for reporting back after your first day of the T3 dosing. 2 lbs in one day is obvioiusly water weight since it takes 3500 calories to lose 1 lb, but it¹s encouraging because it may mean the T3 is helping to REGULATE your metabolism and bodily functions, as it should. Guest guest
Oh, I know it is water weight. I look and feel waterlogged. But I am happy losing the water weight. This is not my first day on T3, it was my first day of no T4 with the T3. That may be making the difference but like I said, I could be right back up there tomorrow. Will have to look at it, say after a week or so. My Rt3 levels are another thing. Guest guest
That could be, I know I started gaining weight the WEEK they put me on T4 six years ago! Please keep us posted as this has been my only botersome symptom since Dx with Hashis and Hypo in 2002. Guest guest
Sue, I can't remember, did you ever check your Rt3 levels or maybe your Ft4 and Ft3 numbers do not warrant it? Or if you have hashi's you just may not be on enough thyroid meds. The Frees are the best way to check that along with the antibodies levels TPO and TgAB but maybe you already know this. Guest guest
Hi Venizia, I have my Ft3 and Ft4 checked twice yearly and 8 weeks after any med change. They are both mid range. I have NEVER had my Ft3 checked.... My Ft3 USED to be lowest end, i.e. 240 on a 230-420 range UNTIL we added in the cytomel T3. So I am a poor converter. What would warrant a Ft3 check? I have consistently gained weight SINCE being put on the meds for thryoid. My antibodies were checked and are >1000 for Hashis. Guest guest
I have read at stopthethyroidmadness.com that you want your Ft3 to be near the top of the range. Go to this website Sue, if you haven't yet. Also, I think I told you about the book Stop The Thyroid Madness by Janie Bowthorpe. She runs the Natural Thyroid group. You will probably find that there are many things you are not doing that may help. I think you are referring to the Rt3 and why you should have that checked. I am not saying you need to but if your ranges are where they are supposed to be and you still have hypo symptoms, you either want to check your antibodies to make sure they haven't gotten higher or if you have high cortisol you could have a Rt3 problem and there are ranges for the free T3 and Ft4 but I can't remember what they are right now or their relation to each other that can tell if you have an Rt3 issue. This probably confused you even more and I am having a difficult time explaining which is why I suggest going to the sttm website. Even if your FT3 were higher, the very active presence of antibodies will neutralize some of the T3 in serum. When your thyroid stops completely, and the antibodies subside, you may find your meds more effective. Your condition will certainly be more stable. In the meantime, be prepared for more adjustments to your dosage. RT3 has a similar effect to the antibodies, but I would not suspect that when the immune system is so active. Guest guest
Chuck, Without straight up T3 (cytomel) my free T3 is just 240 on a range of 230-420, mid with 15 mcg of T3 cytomel. This is nowhere near a full replacement dose, which means your thyroid is still struggling to function and is succeeding only partially. Your state of equilibrium is essentially dependent on your immune system. As the antibodies work, your thyroid's output will diminish, eventually requiring more Cytomel. However, the attack could suddenly stop or slow dramatically, in which case your thyroid might be able to keep up again. You could even shift over to hyperT for awhile. Guest guest
We added the T3 in, 15mcg and my Free T3 goes up to about 400. I was saying why I thought I was not a good converter, and thus needed to take the T3 as well. Does that sound correct? Sorry, not really. If you greatly increase your Cytomel dose, FT3 will go up dramatically whether you convert efficiently or not. The clearest signature of a conversion problem is low T3 when T4 is dosed to a relatively high level. Low conversion is often connected to RT3, since the T4 that doesn't get converted to T3 will usually go to RT3 instead. However, it is possible to have one without the other. Guest guest
No, I felt like crap on armour because my body does not like the pig thryoid hormone. I tried it 3 times over a two year period because everyone on another board said it was superior. I gave it all I had, Gracia I was up to 2.25 grains more than my levo/cyto combo I tried armour with levo, armour alone, etc. And every time I introduced Armour my joints ached, my stomach bloated up and I felt like crap. Guest guest
That does sound like poor conversion then, she had me at .112 levo. Then .100 levo and 15 mcg t3 and up went my free t3 -- I am now on .75 mcg levo and 15 ctyomel and get labs in a few weeks. I never had reverse t3 done do you think I should? I am going to at least ask... I never felt any better on any meds at any dose but then again, I never felt sick until my adrenals crashed and burned. sue On 8/10/08 4:13 PM, " Chuck B " <gumboyaya@...> wrote: > > > > Sue, > > You wrote: >> > >> > >> > We added the T3 in, 15mcg and my Free T3 goes up to about 400. >> > I was saying why I thought I was not a good converter, and thus needed to >> > take the T3 as well. >> > Does that sound correct? > > Sorry, not really. Guest guest
Sue, I am having to agree with Gracia. I was taking 6 grains of Armour awhile back and ever since I have been taking the lower dose is when I started having all this trouble. Guest guest
Gracia, Where do you get your information? The MININUM dose of Armour can be 60 mg or 1 grain or even less. There is no way that eveyone should be on 4 grains of armour‹no way at all. My Tsh is suppressed, which is good for me, my t4 mid range and with t3 my free t3 goes up to high end. I never felt like crap til I took armour ‹ I tried it ALONE, adding it to Levo, and alone again and as soon as I took a pill I got SICK. Again, what goes IN does not demonstrate conversion. It is the labs that will tell, particularly the relative concentrations of T4 and T3. > I never had reverse t3 done do you think I should Usually they rule out everything else first. The problem is that RT3 will go up with just about every other problem as well as the mystery one the test will indicate. So, until you eliminate those other potential causes, RT3 is not particularly meaningful. Chuck
Guest guest
Well that is not true, my natural medicine Physician who is a MD Takes 5 grains of Armour! I am up to 4 grains and I am feeling much better than I did at 3 grains. My doc, prudence hall says everyone is different but one should always dose to your symptoms and if one feels better on a higher dose then that is the dose you should take and the same goes for lower doses...
