international units is the unit of measurement used routinely....so

your viral load is 232,066 I think Liz thought the larger number were

thinternational units ...that's why our opinions are going to

vary.....but I'm right.....LOL

That's a low viral load....anything above 800,000international units or

2 million copies would be high. However, the viral load doesnot

correlate with the amount of liver damage but lower viral loads are

supposed to be easier to clear.....so good for you!

Yes if you are covered through the employer they do . My husband has in the past

switched jobs and once the new insurance kicked in there was no problem . You

may need Copra to fill the gap if the new jobs insurance doesnt start

immediately.

Thanks so much Janet, and Sivia for all the information on circulating

immune complexes.

I saw the dermatologist yesterday to show him that the round patch on my arm

which initially looked like

a hematoma has not resolved completely even if it has faded a lot since May this

year.

Have you ever had something like that ?

Suzanne,

Is it possible that you can take a picture of this?

And send it,or post in the photo section of the group. It is hard based

on the desription to to picture this in my head right now. Blame it on

the fact that I took my interferon shot last night and I get a little

fuzzy the next day. And the fact that my son called last night from the

ER in Tulsa and woke me up at 2:00 am. Long story not going into that

right now. LOL

anne,

Yes, he is okay. Just a terrible story. He and his fiance live together. Her ex

husband was over visiting. He got drunk, threw the phone at Val(son's fiance)

hit her on the nose.

My son threw him out of the house. Ex husband picked up a 2x4 hit my son on the

head.

Val and (my son) ended up in ER, for stitches.

6 stitches in 's head, Val got 4 on her nose. Both are brusied, and aching

but they are okay.

Ex-husband, he is sleeping it off at his parents house. Good thing that Son and

Val are nice people and realized he was drunk. Because he might have ended up in

jail for assault and battery. As it was, they called his parents, and told them

to come get him.

Drunkeness isn't an excuse for assault and battery, or any violence. Too bad

they didn't call the police.

Oh so true Sally. Talked to son this afternoon. There is a child involved and

she is very angry at her father. I talked to her a long time.

Suggest to Val that she talk to someone.

My son, I told him, should have called the police. He agreed. But he agrees with

me, that ex husband should go to supervised visits again with the child.

Hi Marie,

Welcome to the group. I'm of the opinion that the blood type thing is

hooey. :-) There are certainly people who do better on differing

amounts of protein and carbs but I don't think it's related to their

blood type. Your husband and friend are proof that not all " O " s neatly

fit the same profile.

Body for Life is nice because it falls smack in the middle of balanced

(equal amounts of protein and carbs). That gives most people great

results and it's easy enough to tweak your ratios up or down based on

how you feel and how it's working for you.

Bill official word on the blood type diet is here:

http://eatingforlife.com/qa/index.asp?id=5

I read " Diet for a Small Planet " back in the day. Keep in mind that,

depending on which edition you're looking at, the nutrition

information could be dated by about 40 years. Protein combining is one

issue that's really changed. There used to be a popular theory that

you had to combine certain amino acids in the same meal to come up

with a complete protein. Now research shows that your body stores and

synthesizes amino acids just fine no matter how you eat them.

If you're leaning in the vegetarian direction, you might find my week

of BFL vegetarian meals helpful:

http://www.skwigg.com/id58.html

If you feel strongly about the ethical/environmental issues

surrounding vegetarianism, feel free to go straight to the menus and

ignore my crazy rantings about how vegetarianism made me sleepy and

fat. LOL

I'm also an A and if I had to be a vegetarian and play golf someone

would die. Simple as that. I have to have meat. I have such GI upset

when I eat carbs that I just about can't stand it. Any processed wheat

product and simple sugars just put me right over the edge. And

personally I think golf is about the most boring game in the world.

Mostly because I can never find the ball after I hit it.

I do think vegetarians can succeed at bodybuilding. I'm not one so I

can't tell you how to do it. I'm sure there are books out there

written by vegan bodybuilders that will help you if that's the route

you want to go.

ly, I think these guys are a load of hooey and nothing but snake

oil salesmen. We know there are no magic pills to getting fit and

losing fat but that's what they are trying to sell. That being said,

anyone who is going to " do " bodyforlife, needs to give it a chance,

say a year or more at really working the program to give the body time

to adjust and show some serious changes, not keep trying to find the

" magic pill. "

Thanks for answering so soon. I had read the stuff about being a

vegetarian on your website, but it had been a while. At any rate,

it was the answer I was hoping to get.

Well, come to think of it, in college when I was not eating meat, it

was kind of like I had no clue about cooking: how or what. I just

kind of realized I hadn't been buying it or eating it one day, other

than maybe tuna.

I have tons of recipes now on this computer and have them organized

somewhat. I think simple is better, though.

My husband's friend from work used to be a bodybuilder and he

recommended that Lappe book (vegetarian book) to my husband, and I

actually had read it about five years ago. I think there's

something to protecting the environment and all, but I don't think I

do very well without meat cold turkey.

I had trouble getting below 23 percent body fat back then. I have

probably gone to 26 or more percent at my worst. They say the two

times in your life your body makes new fat cells are when you're a

child and when you're pregnant. So I may have blown it a bit. I

was better with my first pregnancy, probably. I could have gotten

in trouble when my weight got to 105 for my height, as in not a good

amount of muscle, maybe.

I'm hoping to be motivated to step up with my program. This morning

I ran to where there was a little more of a training effect for the

first time in a long time. I also needed to get back before my

husband left for work so my son would not be alone. So I only went

for 30 minutes, but I sprinted more than I normally do in the

beginning.

I saw the book, " The Complete Book of Running for Women " , and it was

very helpful. The best thing I got out of it was stuff about

breathing. I inhale for three steps and exhale for two to slow down

the oxygen debt. She said if you do odd numbers like that it's

better for your hips because the impact could repeatedly be greater

on one side otherwise.

My husband got a free week coupon at 24 HR fitness center when he

bought our xbox thing or something. Last year I used a coupon for a

free week at the YMCA, and I was going there a lot, and it was

helpful. It isn't always time efficient for me, since I get so

busy. Like right now, I should be cleaning. :)

Well, thanks again, and I hope I can be a good listmember without

being too distracting or anything. :) I guess I kind of ramble

sometimes.

Hi and welcome!

If you have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome or multiple

chemical sensitivity, seriously consider the Blood Type diet. Other

than that, some people are really into it (like my MIL - FIL has

diabetes and is MCS), some consider it hooey.

One thing that it does stress, which is backed up generally in

alternative research, is sensitivity by many people to wheat and

dairy. Whether it has anything to do with blood type is unknown,

but the sensitivities are WELL documented.

Wheat is a common sensitivity due to the hybridizing after WW II

that gave resistance to 'wheat rust', a wheat disease.

Unfortunately for HUMANS, 'wheat rust' uses the same enzyme system

we do to digest wheat. So, wheat that is indigestible to 'wheat

rust' = wheat that is indigestible to humans. Spelt, rye, etc. can

be a life saver to anyone with wheat sensitivity (NOT celiac

disease - different animal!) (Rye bread is YUMMY and can really

help with losing the stubborn weight, if wheat is at all an issue

for your body.)

Dairy - well, I'm sure you've read about all the crap they give

those poor cows! Lots of information out there on that - I don't

need to repeat it all here.

What you may find (a common experience for bodybuilders eating

clean) is a growing sensitivity to what is good and bad for YOUR

body. It may not bear resemblance to anyone else's ideas

or 'miracle diet' but it will work for you (example: I have discoved

that yogurt OF ANY KIND is not friendly to my body - go figure - but

cottage and ricotta cheese are FINE). Go with that, don't be afraid

to experiment, and have fun with BFL!

Sincerely,

WMcRae

Hi Marie and welcome. I used to have that book on blood types and

diet, but I gave it away. I'm a " A " too and I just don't do well on

an all vegetarian diet.(nor all meat) I may not be doing it right

or something, but it was just never a good mix for me. I find BFL

has been where my biggest success has been. Everything about it. I

don't think it's necessarily hooey as it is just another opinion.

Just like Weight Watchers is awesome and has given thousands of

women success, but it's not a good match for me. It's all about

what works for each individual.

Good luck and thanks for your introduction.

Hello, I am new

Hi All! I am Stacie. Mom to a 5 year old boy with high functioning autism. Although we are now leaning to aspergers. He will go in to see a neuropscyh in a couple weeks to see if our thoughts are correct. My son has been in the intensive autism therapy for 2 years now. His intensive therapy ends in July which in a way I am glad as I am tired of having to answer to people when he is sick or we need to do things. But the therapy has helped him tremoundously. Dakota was also diagnosed with ADHD.

Dakota recently had his IEP meeting. And well they didn't put him under the autism criteria they put him under the other health impairment. One thing that upset me was the fact they had us fill out the Gillian Rating scale for Autism and Aspergers. I filled it out and they had the speech teacher fill it out. Why they have someone who only spends 2 hours a week with my son is beyond me. Of course he isn't going to have the symptoms to hear because he can communicate with adults and people in a small group if he feels comfortable. That doesn't mean he doesn't have autism. Well according to her findings he didn't have the symptomes and according to mine he rated average in autism and borderline for aspergers. Yet the school psychologist said that because the results had discrepensies they couldn't tell if it was from the autism or not. Fine whatever, they aren't doctors and can't diagnosis. And the speech teacher only thinks of extremely autistic kids and people seem to

forget every kid is different. Well the lady from the county was at the IEP and I flat out said to all of them. Aren't you concerned with how he withdraws himself from the other kids. And the lady from the county said how does he do that. well the response was first he brings a toy to school and can play at free time. He will play alone with that toy. Other kids don't go up to him maybe if they did he would let them play. The county lady said rudely solve the problem don't let him bring toys it would force him to be social. Which isn't true as he goes off by himself and then grabs a notebook and writes in it. Also even his teacher has noticed the withdrawal getting worse every day. Another example was that he was doing a project in class while everyone in the room was talking he wasn't talking to anyone in there but doing his project. The lady at the county flat out said oh that don't sound like characteristic to me. I said to her well I am sorry but you are WRONG. First

of all this is a everyday occurrence regardless if he brings his toys in, when he gets home his routine is to go in his room and spend hours in there playing with his stuffed dog, and heaven forbid anyone go in there to check on him as he gets mad and starts yelling and calling names as he doesn't want to be distirbed. This is EVERY DAY!!

Now to top this all off is my son is at risk of losing his autism intenisve therapy as lately we have not maintained 20 hours per week. There were lots of factors involved, for example dakota is sick a lot. And when he is sick and has a fever he can't go to school and his therapists can't work with him. Another reason was that the company was understaffed. Yet the lady at the county said that as a parent it's my fault. Sorry I can't help unforseen circumstances. Well I called a advocate and we looked into it more. I found out that she isn't doing her job. For one she reported us to the state without even bothering to help correct teh situation. She is suppose to get with the provider to see about being able to provide 20 hours. WEll obviously that is what the meeting is on Monday. But if they can't provide 20 hours she is suppose to be offering another company she did NOT do that. Also if he is sick a lot and the therapy is helping then we have to find out if there is

another type of therapy or alternative that we could be doing. She has not done that. So Monday we have the meeting and lets just say it's not going to be pretty. I complained to her boss but he blew me off. If I get upset during the meeting I am ending the meeting and my advocate will attend the next meeting with me. I have fought for 5 years I will not stop now. However my umph is running out. I have been thru a lot in 5 years. And if I had to do it again I would.

Ok now that i Have rambled on enough and vented I feel better. LOL I hope you all have a great weekend.

Hello I am new too. My name is Michele and my DS is three years old with a PDD-NOS dx although we think he has AS. Your message was enlightening and scary as we are going through the same thing. My son is very smart and when he aged out of early intervention they tested his expressive and receptive language. They said they couldn't test his pragmatics as he was too young. His expressive language was about a year ahead of his age. He is currently in preschool and is mostly non-compliant and plays alone. We were denied the Medicaid waiver because of that expressive language score and we are still trying to get services for him through the school. The school has said that they don't think he will qualify under autism because of that stupid expressive language score. They also told me that most AS kids don't qualify for services because they are so smart. They want to put him under OHI also but another parent told me to fight for the autism label as we would get more services. Also, two of the evaluators have asked me if I thought his non-compliance wasn't really just a behavior issue and I wanted to scream! Do they not know anything about autism? They also gave us the GRS rating scale. It will be interesting to see what the results are.

Good luck to you and I hope you don't lose your services!

you are definitely right about not getting up and getting my advocate involved. I am really glad I found this group as my son has a lot of similar things in common with a lot of the kids. I did talk with teh school counselor this morning. I actually had a issue to deal with about my older son. And we talked alittle bit about Dakota. She is going to go out at recess and observe him and she is going to try to get a little group together to work on feelings and social problems. I have that meeting today with the county and my nerves are really wacky at the moment. I have so many things I want to say going thru my head. More of it being angry then anything. But I am going to fight this battle out so he doesn't lose the services he has benefitted from. I still have a couple calls to make this morning. Will let you know how it pans out!

I realized something yesterday. Dakota doesn't know how to express his feelings. He says things such as I hate you when he is angry. Never says he is mad. I have been telling him to say I am mad at you instead of I hate you. It's going to take a lot of work but what I also noticed is that yesterday the boys were playing a game cube game. I think sometimes my oldest, Brad, expects my youngest to be at his level and dakota doesn't understand what brad wants and gets mad, lashes out and hits him. Well then brad gets upset yells or hits back. Well I explained to brad that I think the problem is this. Because dakota doesn't know how to tell Brad he is made he lashes out and hits him. Doesn't make it right so somehow I have to correct that. I know we tried before but it didn't help much. Any ideas??

Michele are you in a state that has a program called Beckett? I know it's available in I think 6 or 8 states but I don't know which ones they are. Dakota is on Beckett and to qualify they have to have needs. Not exactly sure of all the needs. But Dakota is on that program. It's like being on SSI but you don't get money only the insurance and your income doesn't matter. As for the Autism or the OHI I didn't think the label mattered as they get the same services. Hmmm that's something I need to look into. He is getting speech and occupational therapy at school. I so can relate on the behavior issue. I have wanted to scream so many times. I think of people are uneducated when it comes to autism. I did call another advocate today and what the county is doing is wrong. She was suppose to notify me BEFORE she went to the state and she did not. A attorney will be calling me with in the next few days. So we shall see what happens. I didn't think what they did was right. I don't think he will lose the services. He probably will be on probation of some sort I guess. But he won't start getting a full 20 hours till after the holidays. I want to cancel therapy tonight so I can leave for Madison. I want to spend the night in a hotel so I don't have to wake the kids up super early in the morning. At least they will get the proper rest.
