Flu Shot

You are definitely a person who needs it -- and you certainly don't

need to get sick and make your mother sick. I just think that for

me - being " healthy " - I will let someone else have mine.

The " shortage " may not actually be any worse this year and it may

actually be made worse by the news media -- it is just with

the " expected amounts " from that one company being disposed of it

seems worse.

I have heard that the nose mist one is going to be available in large supply

and is actually better than the shot..so go snort that up your nose woman,

and stay well!

I wasn't sure about our kids getting the flu shot either, but I called my

sons doctor and he has an appointment to get his in a week.

Hi Cookie,

My daughter who is 7 also gets horrible stomach aches, she actually doubles over

with pain! What I find that helps is this (after 6 years of experimentation!),

I make sure before the fevers start, which for us is when the cramping is

lessend, I feed her so that her stomach can first, handle the motrin (which I

know can add cramping on an empty stomach) then when the actual cramping is at

its worst my daughter always asks for warm tea with sugar in eat. I don't know

if its psychological or what but that usually helps and warms her up, which also

coincides with the chills coming on. I also place her somewhere very

comfortable because I find that when she is relaxed the cramping is also

lessend. And last but not least I put her in a tepid bath, that almost always

helps.

I second the bath it works well for my daughter to or if she doesn't feel like

Hopefully my son Drew will be getting his flu shot Tuesday- my

pediatrician actually called aand advised us to get it because he

has been so sick the past few months. Also, Drew has recently,

especially since his tonsillectomy, had trouble with his bowels as

well. I think it may be due to not eating for a long time, then

eating again messing up his system. Last weekend, he actually

became impacted- after all he's been through- and had to be put on a

stool softener. I think it was probably due to not eating then

eating again, all of the medication he was on, and then he was just

became potty-trained this summer- so he hadn't quite gotten the hang

of it. The pediatrician told me to put him back in diapers, but he

refuses them. Now that I think of it, he's always had some trouble,

the doctor had me giving him 2 oz of juice when he was 3 months old

because of difficulty with that. Has your son always had trouble?

I am hoping these stomach problems will pass soon!

I see you are from Lyme- I work at L & M hospital! (I know they do

not have any flu shots...)

My own flu shot lament is my kids both got the flu shot in early September,

which is really too early to last the whole season. I was really sick at the

time and it very much " felt " like the flu, so I called the ped to ask if there's

any benefit to the kids getting the shot that minute. He said it might help,

come on in. So my MIL drags me and the kids in, I didn't want to have her do

it alone as I didn't think my not-yet-2-year-old would appreciate being without

her mommy. We get there and he says, " I don't think you could possibly have

the flu, it's not around yet " . Well, why did I drag my ubersickly booty out of

the couch then? Keeping the shortage in mind, we went ahead and got them the

shots, figuring early is better than not getting it at all if they run out.

always gets two shots and has never gotten the flu. I really don't think

they will have the second shot available for her. She could technically get #2

now (if they have any left), it's been over a month since #1. But I'm more

worried about spacing out a second shot so it's gotten late enough to cover the

rest of the season (November?), rather than doubling up for double protection

early then having nothing in her system later. But I don't think they'll have

any left by then, I don't even know if they have any left right now.

Still no shots at my own docs.

feels he should have the flu shot because little is understood about

and because it may have something to do with the immune

system, he puts in a high risk category.
