Hi alj--

Your question seems very general to me. What kind of detoxing?

And do you just mean vitamins? or do you mean " any pills " by

saying " supplements " ?

Activated charcoal is a great detoxifier.

Aerobic exercise is a great detoxifier.

Lots of herbs and foods are good for many kinds of detox.

Wheatgrass juice.

I think vitamin C is a great detoxifier, but I don't really like

taking pills :(

Alternating hot and cold showers are wonderful.

Homozon is a great detox.

Skin brushing is good for lymph, as are deep breathing, massage,

and exercise.

I guess most of those aren't " supplements " , huh.

Sacha, Dr. Hoffer, who pioneered the method, prefers flushing niacin

to non-flushing.

Your bloating is probably caused by dietary carbohydrates. Are you on

an anti-candida diet that allows whole grains or worse, honey?

Killing your bowel candida with an anti-fungal pales in comparison to

allowing a restored bowel ecology to make you a poor host ;) which

you will be on a low carb diet with inulin or high inulin foods added

to make 15 grams daily.

bloating and stomach stretching symptoms are all back from the second

I wake up. I'm not sure what happened. I bought oil of oregano

today, so I can take more of an antifungal-do you think that will

help?

problem right when I got home. But I won't open it until you tell me

==>This is from my article: " Vitamin B Complex Dose: Take 50 mgs twice

a day plus 50 mgs of niacin [twice a day], if it is separate. " You

take most supplements with meals. You do not need to gradually

increase B vitamins - start with the recommended dose.

==============I'm glad the topic of Niacin came up again 'cause I

confess I just can't get my head around it (but one of the only

benefits of having the Yeast Beast is that you can always blame

any " dumbness " on brain fog right?)

When I began Niacin at 50mg X 2 daily I got a flush every few days

and then it stopped and nothing happened for a few weeks. So I

increased the dose to 100. Such has been the pattern I am now up

200mg X 2 daily and have not had a flush for a couple of weeks.

How far should I go with this? Do I increase the dosage again?

(Which makes me slightly nervous!)

Thanks for any input.

I can't help you with your specific question, but I did learn last night

that niacin (not niacinimide) is prescribed as a " drug " to lower bad

cholesterol and raise good cholesterol. Not that I'm worried about my

cholesterol or anything ('cause I don't believe it's an issue), but for

this purpose, apparently the therapeutic dose is anywhere from 1.5g to 6g

per day. Yes, you read right. That's GRAMS of niacin. All the resources

I read mentioned the side effects (itching, headache, flushing, stomach

upset).

So I guess 100mg/day isn't as much as I thought it was. :)

Hi Penny,

You are not taking Niacin to necessarily get a flush...although it

sometimes does occur. Niacin is part of Bee's list of essential

supplements, part of the B vitamins. If you ever have a question about

supplement dosage, always refer to her main article " How to

Successfully Overcome Candida. " The answers to your questions are in

there or do a group message search.

This is from post #33062

==>Hi Penny. Some people have taken up to 1,500 mgs per day. I did

L. Ron Hubbard's Purification Program in 1983 and gradually increase

niacin to 900 mg per day. But like Jackie said, you are not " trying

to " get a flush because some days it happens and some days it

doesn't. It won't hurt you to increase doses however, and the more

you take the more it helps flush out toxins and radiation.

Yesterday I had a mild head rush from the niacin. Today 10 minutes

after taking my problem ear and that side of my head were on fire. I

thought my ear was going to burst into flames at any moment. lol Lasted

for about 10 minutes then eased off. This is fun stuff!!

doing its job for sure! It is good stuff. One of the best. It also

oxygenates the blood, and cancer cannot grow in the presence of

oxygen. Great huh?

it should, what with the good fats, low-carbs, etc. B-complex and

niacin would help somewhat.

Can I share what I found when I was doing my research on niacin?

Apparently, flushing niacin in huge doses (1500-6000mg) is prescribed as a

cholesterol-lowering medication. It apparently works quite well, but at

those doses, it's contra-indicated for people with the conditions you

mention because 1) liver inflamation can occur and 2) it can raise blood

sugars.

My personal opinion is that taking niacin the way Bee recommends is fine.

I suspect that you can truly get too much of a good thing, and 100mg is

already more than adequate, I would guess.

It'll be interesting to see what Bee says.

I'm noticing something interesting with the niacin. Started taking last

week. On days my ear with the recurring infection/healing symptoms is

acting up I get a major niacin flush inside that ear and all thru that

side of my head. On days when that ear is not acting up I get no

flushing at all.

take niacin which she has both. I don't know what source her friend

found that on but I was wondering your opinion.

==>I don't see how niacin could harm anyone with diabetes or liver

problems because the body itself makes niacin in a healthy large

colon. I did find this reference:

http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C7001.html

" Although niacin increases low levels of high-density lipoprotein

(HDL) cholesterol, which frequently accompanies diabetes, past

guidelines did not recommend the use of niacin in patients with

diabetes because of concerns about adverse effects on glycemic

control; however, this was based on limited clinical data. A 2000

study suggests that lipid-modifying dosages of niacin can be safely

used in patients with diabetes and that niacin therapy may be

considered as an alternative to statin drugs or fibrates for

patients with diabetes in whom these agents are not tolerated or

fail to sufficiently correct hypertriglyceridemia or low HDL-C

levels. [JAMA. 2000;284: pp.1263-1270] "

I found references stating that the slow-release niacin formulas can

cause liver damage, but it doesn't happen with regular niacin.

Niacin is a water-based vitamin that the body would easily throw off

if it is not needed.

> I am sure she has candida as she has sooo many of the symptoms.

She knows it too but has been told the her problems stem from the

Hepatitis.

==>Pat, her problems couldn't have started with hepatitis because

she could only have hepitatis if her immune system were depressed

and/or she received an extremely hugh intake of toxins at one time

that her body couldn't handle.

==>You wouldn't want to " stop " the reaction. I still get reactions

once in awhile even after doing the purification program where I took

900 mg per day. The reaction indicates niacin is flushing toxins and

radiation out of your body, and it is also dialating the blood vessels

and capillaries, which is a good thing! Take a minimum of 50 mgs twice

a day.

Hello Sacha,

If you want to experience a flush, it wouldn't hurt to up it to

100mg, but know that the niacin is still doing it's job and that may

be why you are not experiencing as many flushes anymore.

I didn't experience flushes myself until I took 200mg. I have been

taking 200mg 2x a day for about 10 months or so now. I rarely

experience a flush. Regardless, I am confident the niacin is doing

wonderful things to help heal my body in conjunction with all the

supplements and healthy food in Bee's well researched program.

Hope this helps. :-)

Hi, everyone,

I'd like to address the use of Niacin.

As a registered nurse I want to advise everyone, if you think you want to try Niacin please check with you doctor first!!!

Its used for several things but can have some unpleasant sides effects, some are: itching, becoming hot (from inside out), and body flushing.

So again, please check with your doctor first.

Calcium as calcium carbonate 140 mg. Other ingredients : Cellulose,

stearic acid, silica, magnesium stearate, cellulose and gylcerine

coating riboflavin for coloring. Is this okay to use?

==>You need to buy Niacin (Vitamin B3) all on its own without calcium

or any other supplement. Natural Factors has one that I buy.

They told me to take an adult aspirin 20 to 30 min. before taking the Niacin

because its supposed to help. Not.

The first night I did the aspirin thing and it was awful. I itched and burned so

bad I told them it was worse than menopause.

The second night I was instructed to take benadryl with the aspirin. I took 2

(they are small) and the aspirin. The itching and burning were awful again.

I am going to try again tonight because they swear if I can tough it out my body

will get used to it.

I am still itching today. I have scratch marks on my arms and actually drew

blood.

I hope it gets better.

Did you continue taking it or did you quit?

What was your reaction to the niacin. I took it and got a rash so bad I had

to take a medrol pack.
