I think NJ or NY are great locations - Anywhere with a good airport,

cheap flights and cheap hotels, etc. How about NY's capital in

Albany - It's upstate so it's not overly expensive, there's a great

airport & a lot of hotels and...for those that want to visit NYC while

here, it's only 2 hrs away (for those really committed to visiting the

Big Apple)- I don't think most of us attending the conference really

take part in many, if any, local amenities/attractions outside of the

conference. Sure, if would be great if we had time to but, for the

most part, we're there for one reason and that's to see all the

wonderful professionals in attendence of your conference.

HI lisa,

welcome back ! i guess my 2 cents would be anywhere that you can make a vacation

out of it. when we went to one in pittsburg we made it vacation with the kids

and my husband. florida would be good too because we have family there and its

drivable and you can get cheap tickets.

I think web cam is a good idea. It looks like most people are in the North East.

We would not be able to travel for that unless it was in conjunction with our

appointment with Dr. Agin.

I’m in Oklahoma but I would not recommend it to be here. Hard to get to and

nothing to do and terrible weather. Believe it or not I do like it here

though. Great people!! I’m originally from California so there would be

great. Kind of expensive though but actually anywhere a conference is held,

since usually in a hotel conference room, the hotel gives a good rate.

Probably checking out rates in different cities would be a good idea. And if

given enough advance time airfares always go down to at least a somewhat

reasonable rate to anywhere in the US. Good luck.

My admittedly biased preference would be somewhere in the Northwest,

but it sounds like most here are in the East. Why not have TWO

conferences, one for the East, and one for the West?

If part of the goal of the conference is to raise awareness of

Apraxia, which seems to be sorely needed, then I'd say based on the

demographic of this group that the East coast is already more aware

of Apraxia, and its the West coast that needs the help, therefore the

conference should be here in the West.

Barring that, Chicago is nice too and basically in the middle.

I personally don't think it is an east coast thing. I think it simply

gets diagnosed more on the east coast because they have more training,

conferences, overall awareness of the diagnosis etc therefore it is

more likely to be recognized.

hi lisa,

i would love the conference to be on the east coast too. since i also live in

New England. there is a huge need in this area of the us for more education and

knowledge and awareness for our children. a lot of the specialists my own son

sees have never even heard of oral and verbal dyspraxia or apraxia. most of them

just look at like i am nuts. i am always having to explain about it all the

time. i have had to educate my sons schools and doctors on it. i have spent

numerous hours trying to explain it. then still have them all look at me with

blank faces. anyway i think it would be great to have the conference here. there

is a real need here to make sure all our slps and specialists get the proper

information to help more of us that live here. i sure wish G could come

give a talk to some of childrens hospitals and some of the local school

districts in my area especially to my districts slps who still think that the

way to help my son in st is to keep telling me my son

is making progress and has come a long way from when he was 3 . well yes he has

come a long way. but if any of you here on the list heard my son talk most

likely none of you would understand him. since he can string up to 4 and 5 words

now. ( My son is now 8). the problem is i am lucky if i can make out 1 word of

it. and most of the time i have to play a guessing game where i have ask my son

questions about what he said. so my vote is to hold the conference here. i also

wish G could appear on Oprah and get the word out.

Hi ,

I am probably the only other person voting for the Northwest on this

list, (Portland, OR, especially), because I think out of all the

main areas of the country, we could really use some enlightenment

and encouragement on apraxia in our region the most. (I don't think

we have someone comparable to what I've heard of Dr. Agin on the

East Coast.)

I have a 3 year old boy, ph, with Verbal Apraxia (although

everyone is very hesitant to say it " officially " but most " feel

pretty sure it is " and say it " off the record " .---see what I

mean?), Hypotonia and some sort of staring seizure disorder. I am

still feeling like we are just getting started with treatment,

because no one, in California or Oregon, set us on the right track

earlier, when, now in hindsight, I see the signs were there.

Although I'm only aware of a couple of us on this list/group, you are

not alone in Portland. I agree that more awareness in the medical

community and within our schools is needed. My son went through

early intervention and such, starting around 3, and it wasn't until

he was 6 that we had anything more concrete than " developmental

delay " . And don't even get me started on insurance....

Anyway, just wanted to let you know you weren't alone here.

I already voted for California, but my second choice would be somewhere

inexpensive to stay and fly to. I am hoping you choose a summer month because

my children are in high school and junior high school. In the summer I can

bring them with me, or leave them with relatives. I don't have any local

support to help with my kids transportation during the school year if you choose

that time.

I am from Ohio but my Mom lives in ville, Fl and I agree that

Orlando (Disney) would be ideal because my still thinks she is

a princess and would love to go there, plus my Mom could babysit for

Hi , it was a pleasant shock to see a kiddietalk post again!!

Thanks for updating us on Tanner,and giving us a sprinkle of your

wonderful humor again! As a " late talker " / responder, my vote for the

conference would be East Coast (and I agree with a few others ,it

shouldn't be a complicated city like Boston)Our vote is Philadelphia

area as then both my husband and I could go.We're from south Jersey.

Also, it has an easy airport to navigate,served by low cost airlines

(Southwest),is driveable by many in this group,has many outside

activities for those interested,like Atlantic city,Jersey shore

beaches, Pocono Mountains.I feel like I work for the Chamber of

Commerce. Any way, I hope we all can attend.Please grace us with your
