Oops.meant to send this to the list.

Hello!

Thank you for the great report on Tanner. As the parent of a 3 year old, it

is so great for me to hear these stories.

Selfishly, I would love to see the conference happen in California - great

weather, lots of conference facilities. But I also think that New Orleans

would be a great location - maybe just not in hurricane season :-). I spent

a few years living there, and it is a wonderful city to visit, unbeatable

hospitality industry, and (believe it or not) lots of great activities for

kids.

Keep us posted, and I'll be one of the first to sign up!

Warm regards,

Lavin in So Cal

I vote southeast, also. Very affordable, you can always count on the weather

and Atlantavhas the largest airport

[crkelley@...] wrote:

I, too, would vote for the Southeast. We're in TN. In addition to

the proximity, you'll probably find it more affordable than New York

and California! (No offense, please, I love those spots, just cost

prohibitive~)

Hi ,

Great to hear that Tanner is doing so well!

I'm casting my vote for the East Coast, North East would be even

better. Why? For what ever reason it appears that the majority here

on the list are from the North East. I'm still uncertain as to the

actual number of diagnosed apraxic children by demographics though.

Either way it would be great to have the conference where the largest

number of people could attend. Not sure on medical personnel and SLP

demographics either but certainly where ever it is held those who

live near will benefit greatly!

Looking forward to hearing more on it.

Well I would vote for the West Coast, but in all honesty unless it was in

Seattle or Portland, I doubt we could afford it. I would love to..I need all the

tools I can get to help DD, as I am her primary speech therapist at this time.

We can only afford private therapy once a month ( in appeal with the insurance

company). Then I work with her at home 7 days a week, in 15 sessions, we try and

get 2 in each day and 1 one the weekends.

I think most on this list are on the east coast.

We live in Atlanta which has affordable accomodations

and great airport accessiblity (especially if you fly

on Delta). There are also lots of interesting things

to do downtown(ie. the new Georgia Aquarium!). The

traffic can be kind of crazy during rush hour, but the

drive from the airport to downtown Atlanta is only

about 20 minutes. Just a suggestion. I also like the

Orlando idea for families. Thanks,

Since I live in North Jersey. I'll vote for New York

City or New Jersey? Also, for those who are not able

to travel to the location - How about having it video

taped and we either download or order a copy?

How about New Jersey to hold a conference. I have

been to some in AC and the conventions halls do a nice

job. I think it would attract a lot of people.

I would love to see it held at the Hilton at Easton Shopping Center in Columbus,

Ohio. We have our state SLP Convention there and it is great!

Good to have you back!

Being that I live in the South East I would vote for here, but that's not

necessarily easy for the others. What about some where in the middle? The DC

area, etc. Somewhere most of us have to travel to but not so far we can't do it

in a day????

Thanks!

[ ] Upcoming Conference...where would you want it to

be?

Hi everyone!

Wow it's been so long since I've been here -anyone still remember

me?!! (I have a duckie name tag on just in case :o) Tanner is doing

really well still. He is in 4th grade now and just an all around

great guy. He maintains around a high B average in most subjects -

some As too and still above average in height. He loves football and

playing with his friends and he loves the trampoline we got him for

Christmas. Is he 100% normal in speech today? No but is anyone 100%

normal? I mean he has hopes and dreams and feelings like any other

ten year old. A great sense or humor too. I also love that he still

lets me hug him. I mean I know some boys don't once they get to a

certain age. I also like that Tanner and I have conversations about

when he was little and couldn't talk -and it's so good to be able to

talk to him about it, and that the worst of it is in the past.

Tanner's still has a much higher receptive ability then expressive -

he knows so much more then he can express eloquently. That I

consider to be his ongoing impairment. That he doesn't " sound " as

bright as he is. Sometimes it's with words he can say at times and

at times he can't. Example of a more recent speech glitch -the other

day he couldn't say the word " thermometer " right but that's one we

don't use often in our home. I said " think of it as four words -

" their mom it ter " and then he was able to say it pretty quick.

Didn't sound 100% right -but close enough.

Just today we tried the new ProEFA Xtra (mixed 2 of them -2 of the

regular and then 2 ProEPA) so will let you know if we see anything

different. Off the top it seems to be a wee bit too high in the

Omega 6 -but it's something I'll play around with -perhaps add 1

extra EPA? Anyone know/try this new one from Nordic?

(Oh and Tanner gets 4 of the Alpha Gamma E everyday too)

OK I have a very important question for everyone:

There is a large conference being planned right now for apraxia

including speakers such as Dr. Marilyn Agin, our own Dr.

, Kaufman SLP and many others. Lots of cutting edge info

to share -not the same old that's for sure! I'll present the parent

angle through the years. And all of you are invited!! I was asked

to find out in what state most of you would want the conference in.

When you answer please let me know why you want it in that particular

state -what you believe the need is, etc. You can answer here on the

group so we can all talk about it. Please let me know ASAP

We all could be coming to a town near you!

I vote for the DC, land area. There are three large airports in and out

of the area, lots of different Hotels and a lot of things to do and see that

does not cost when you are not in the conference.

New York State would be great!

I am in Orange County NY.

srmccann2003 <smccann@...> wrote:

Has anyone ever done a survey of where everyone is? I think we are all pretty

My vote would be for Chicago. Right near O'Hare airport, there are tons of

convention hotels, etc. If people wanted to go into the city, they could do a

variety of things like go to the children's museum at Navy Pier, or they could

hang out in the burbs and visit one of our many parks or nature preserves.

want it to be?

I already placed a vote for the southeast. I just wanted to add one

thing. If not in the southeast I'd vote for a city with a major

airport in which that airport is a hub for a major airline (i.e.

Atlanta, Denver, etc). That will make it easier to get flights and

possibly less expensive flights.

I vote for a mid-sized city with a good airport (competitive fares).

NY/Boston/DC/California would be more fun, but hotels in major

metropolitan areas are pricey. I'd go to the middle of nowhere to

have a lineup of apraxia experts to listen to--no other attractions

necessary!

What about Nashville, Tn.??? LOL It is a great city and also my son

lives there!

Seriously, although I have no idea if I could attend because of my parents

(medical issues, elderly) . . . . . it seems " to me " that there have been so

many opportunities for those in the New Jersey, that it would be great for

those in a different area to be able to participate also in something.

I know that I would be going alone, so don't base anything on my preference,

but just had to throw that in!!
