Out of curiousity . . . does anyone know if SCD can " pull " metals that

have crossed the blood/brain barrier? The chelator Elle is on, dmsa,

is unable to reach the metals in this area. I am hoping you will tell

me that SCD can do it because the one I know that can reach metals

there is ALA (which is a huge problem for yeast, and I would like to

avoid it).

By the way, to keep everyone posted. You can continue to celebrate

with us. Elle is passing bowels on her own with more frequency and

they are formed with good color and no undigested stool. We are

thrilled with her progress and are hoping this pattern continues.

I personally would not depend on diet alone to provide the heavy metal

excretion that my child needs. Yes, it may be possible that SCD could

support excretion of current exposures, but I highly doubt that it would

chelate the stores of mercury, lead and other metals that are stored in

his tissue and brain.

We have been chelating for a year now. The transdermal(TD) creams seem

to be a nice slow and steady method of chelation, without the issue of

creating gut pathogens.

As far as cost, my son's health insurance actually covers my son's

compounded TD-DMPS, TD-ALA, TD-glutathione and methyl b12 shots. We have

to pay a $40 co-pay.

I said in an earlier post that my son gets a transdermal ALA, so less

likely to cause yeast. I don't know if the TD solution works as well as

the oral, but it is an option.

Dear Summer,

I was very interested in what you wrote. In the pieces below, are you saying

that SCD will cross the blood/brain barrier to pull metals in this area. I just

wanted to make sure that I understand you correctly.

Thanks!

But meanwhile, much of the metal store in the bones, brain and rest of the

nervous system start moving a little, " mobilization " . This happens because, it

is the body's own detoxification mechanism at work. Only so much metal will be

released in the blood at once, so the body can attempt to detoxify it and

excrete it. Then the body lets out a little more, adding what is coming in

through diet and environment.

Meanwhile, doing SCD, and healing the gut, and increasing the manufacture of

glutathione made in the body, will ultimately help to clear the body of these

extra metals, at a pace it can handle, without unduely wearing out the kidneys

which is another associated problems with chelation and autism.

Hey ! My name is Jeni Lynn. We live in Staunton . . . not far from you.

Charlottesville, right?

I don't know what the most accurate way is to determine whether you are toxic or

not if you are not chelating with chelators.

Our DAN had us send out hair analysis on our kids. She also had us do a

" chelation challenge " with TD-DMSA and then tested the urine to see what was

excreted. This verifies the presence of toxins as well as helps gauge an

individual's response to the chelator. My daughter also had blood tests done by

our pediatrician which showed toxic levels of lead in her blood (however, blood

is not an accurate way to test if the individual's exposure was long ago).

If one is not chelating, then I am not sure how you would know if you are toxic.

I am terribly interested in finding out myself. I suspect that I am toxic, but

I don't know for sure. Since I don't have definitive plans for chelating myself

(other than SCD), I don't know how I would ever know.

Welcome to the group!

Hi there, Jenni! We're practically neighbors!!! C'Ville is correct! :)

First off, what is a DAN???

I spoke with a Naturopath (sp?) today, and he said that blood testing is more

accurate than

hair, but we were talking about my 10 month old son... His level was below " 4 "

for

mercury, and that was all I tested for. We didn't do lead, because we live in a

newer home.

Perhaps we should?!
