Guest guest
, I glad to hear that you are feeling a little better. I sure hope the doc will be able to cure your problem for good with this procedure. I do hope that you are in the acute stage and that it has not turned chronic. It sounds like your doc are very encouraging that you will have a full recovery. That is great. It's also good news that some of the people that you work with are willing to donate some of there leave time to you. This way you won't have to push yourself so hard to get back to work before you're really ready. Just remember what a doc has told me for every day that you spend in a hospital, it takes you a week to get your strength back. I do believe that this is true. I know from experience. With this in mind, you won't be expecting too much, too soon. I hope all goes well and I'll keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Take Care, Louie in WV Re: , I am actually feeling somewhat better this morning. I talked to my wonderful surgeon yesterday afternoon. He said my GI told he he talked to someone else and found a different sphincterome (the tool for a sphinterotomy I guess) that can ge to the bile duct from a different angle so he is pretty sure he can take care of my problem through ERCP rather than hving the surgeon do surgery. That was very good news as the surgeon had said the surgery would be hard on me since they have to cut through the duodenum to get to the bile duct surgically. I turned in paperwork at work for people to be able to donate leave to me. My wonderful brother-in-law insisted on giving me 80 hours. The lady suggested I have the doctor write a note saying I may need to be out of work intermittently for next month or so. I thought about asking my family doc to do that but I knew he'd refuse (one of the many reasons I'm getting a new pcp). I mentioned it to my surgeon and he said he had no problem with the note. He said, " realistically, I believe it will take you a minmum of three months to get over this. try to get back in your normal routine when possible, but don't push it. " That took a huge burden off of me. My boss also told me she will donate leave and I'm sure a few other people will, too. This will give me a little cushion for the bad days. The problem with applying for the disability is that it took over 4 months the last time to get it approved. It was actually approved within a week of getting to the actual office that makes the decision to approve or not, but it took 4 months to get through all the other offices I have to go to. In the meantime, if you have no leave, you are off without pay and the disability is not retroactive! I am going to try my best to hang in there and hope that in about 3 months, I will have my life back once again. Thanks for all your support. I know I shouldn't whine. Most here are so much worse off than me. I am very hopeful that I really am still at the acute recurring stage and not at chronic and that the docs are right and they can permanently correct my problem. I know others have probably been offered that promise and it was false but at this point I must believe.

Guest guest
Thanks Deb for your words of encouragement. I've started my journey and I'm not gonna let any obstacles get in my way. This week I had a physical/bloodwork with my PCP, got my letter of Medical Necessity and had my first consult with surgeon. Next week I'm scheduled to get gallbladder ultrasound, Psych Evaluation, Dietitian apt., and Lung Dr. apt. My surgeons assistant gave me a tennative date of Oct. 1 if tings go smoothly next week with all my tests. WOW I'm so happy. I really thought it would be more like months, but I'm on the surgery schedule!!! I haven't told anyone in my family (except my hubby and he's behind me 100%) yet because I don't want them to try to talk me out of it. My goal is to live better, healthier and longer and my family will have to accept my decision and nothing is gonna stop me. Guest guest
My objection to it is that it gives the impression that nurses are the primary EMS caregivers, which they are not. It also reminds me that in lots of systems, its nurses, not paramedics, who run the hospital end of EMS, and I do have a problem with that. I recognize that there are nurses in EMS, most of the active ones paramedics as well, but some not, and that there is a role for them, but it's not the primary role any more than the primary role of the paramedic is in the ER or in the ICU. I have no problem with J&J attempting to recruit more folks into nursing, but why don't they depict nursing for what 99% of it is rather than an exotic permutation that is relatively rarely seen. And why doesn't J&J help us recruit good folks into EMS as a profession? After all, EMS buys a ton of their products. GG In a message dated 12/26/2010 8:34:57 P.M. Central Standard Time, rick.moore@... writes: Well that's too bad. As I said earlier, I would not be offended with a commercial that depicted medics working in the ED because they do and in the ED's that I am familiar with they are respected and appreciated. I can't understand being offended with a depiction of a transport nurse. EMS, nursing, and all allied health professions have a place and impact the health care we all need. Its time to quit being offended by each other and work together. Rick Sent via Blackberry From: _lnmolino@..._ (mailto:lnmolino@...) I am not sure the general public is watching the commercial and believing that when they dial 911 that a nurse will respond. I do believe that EMS and nursing need to play well with each other and having EMS criticize the J&J spot is a little petty. Again they didn't show nurses working in any areas that they don't.
