Hi Ken -

I put on a good 40 pounds after my revision surgery in 2001, mainly

from the total lack of movement I was (or wasn't) doing. With my

next surgery looming on the horizon coming up in February, I decided

I'd better do something. So far I've lost about 20, mostly from

being in Physical Therapy 3 times weekly for the last 4 months on a

strict aquatic program. (Supplimented by diet of course) I'd have

to say the weight problem has been the most difficult, as there

aren't any magical tricks to be swapped here in the group about what

can be done for it.

The "Yoga for Scoliosis" is very good, available through National Scoliosis Foundation. Just do them to your comfort level, with no twisting., since that is very difficult for fused backs and could cause injury. I found that if I eat small portions of healthy-balanced foods throughout the day helps starve off those cravings of eating large meals. I don't own any scales so I don't know if I am actually losing weight, but my clothes are fitting better, if that tells you anything. My attitude is to keep as fit and healthy as possible and the weight will take care of itself.

I'm not having low disc problems as there are none there. I'm fused

to the sacrum. And my PT has me on trunk stabilization and

strengthening exercises, all in the pool. This takes about 30

minutes, followed by another 30-45 minutes of walking, walking,

walking. It really is amazing the things I can do in a pool that I'm

unable to otherwise.

Ken,

I have managed to lose 50 pounds since March with no exercise at all.

I have oatmeal and coffee for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine for lunch, a

normal dinner and a couple of snacks of fresh fruit or veggies or a

cheese stick.

Being a guy, I'm sure you could eat more than that.

Wow, Kathy, that is great.

I talked to Ken the other evening (Hi Ken!) and mentioned that I had

some success with the South Beach diet. My downfall, unfortunately,

is when I'm traveling. When I'm out of my home environment, I pretty

much let myself go. I need to convince myself that I need to drink

water instead of Coke and beer.

P.S. Ken's a pretty nice guy so I won't ban him if I can still be

the " Alpha rooster " :-)

Ken,

I actually have been losing weight lately, and what I have been doing is quite simple. Naturally, it involves willpower, too. I've been making sure that any meat I eat is not larger than a deck of cards. I have allowed myself lots of vegetables (I love them) and I do have a starch at my main meal. The hardest part for me has been staying active for two hours after eating and before going to bed at night, due to my pain. Breakfast is either a small bowl of cereal with milk, coffee, and a little tin of mixed fruit (50 calories) OR an English muffin with jelly, and a Clementine and, of course, coffee. Lunch is a sandwich on diet bread with one slice of deli turkey and as much lettuce as I wish (I'm only allowed iceberg, but you could use any type you like.) I'm pretty much a chocoholic, but have found that the less I eat of it, the less I crave it. So, it is pretty much out of my life. Even Halloween!

This may be too stark for a man, I don't know. Imagination does help. I've lost nearly 20 pounds!

Hi Carole ~ Good for you!! I have been trying to do something very similar.. I have lost 8 lbs and pretty much stopped loosing <argh> I am going to look into South Beach and just tweak my program some... (as Cam said, I'm eating more calories than I burn off)... Ken, et. al.,

I started taking nutritional supplements in 1998 and have taken them

since. I dropped several sizes and have been a 6/8 ever since - I'm

5'6 1/2 " . I take a lot of the vitamins & minerals that have been

discussed on this board.

Please check out this website to find out about the supplements I

use. There is a lot of stuff out there, but I know these work for me

and many others and the quality control and science behind them is

superior.

http://www.advocare.com/9807145

Let me know if you have any questions. I would be happy to call you

and talk with you (or anyone else) about what would work best for

you!

These products drastically changed the quality of my life and I

believe they helped me to avoid surgery as long as I have.

Sincerely,

kam

I too am trying to loose weight. Glad I'm not the only one!! I've

lost 25 lbs in 2 years, which doesn't sound like too much, yet I

know for me that is a huge accomplishment. I started doing stuff

with the dr. phil plan - which basically is eat healthy and

normally, exercise, and create an environment for success (so I

don't have trigger foods at home or carried with me, keep something

good to eat with me, get rid of clothes that are too big, find

people who support my process). I've had a hard time with the

exercise portion because I know this is the key component for a

healthy life for me, not just weight loss. As we all know moving is

difficult!! Some days more than others. So it's a constant

discernment of what can I do this week, today. I had to make myself

a priority, meaning working out is near the top of my list when I

think of the kind of energy and ability I have each day, instead of

left over energy. So, I know I've sacrificed some things (like

computer time, or cooking) in order to go to the pool or the gym

(for my fake work-outs - I'm sure the lean bodies love watching me!)

And I'm just plugging along. Right now I'm in the can't move slump,

where even the pool is painful, so I can feel the months of good

work being wasted away. So then it's a mental game of ok, so it

won't be where it was, but you'll get there again. You have the

whole rest of your life to get there.

For me it's been about changing how I think and feel about myself

and life. I want to live a healthy life, so I am living a healthy

life. And the weight will come off. I say to lots of people that as

long as I don't see the lbs again, I don't care how long it takes to

lose it! At work I'm surrounded by a bunch of thin people

with " normal " body problems who obsess about food and the latest way

to lose vanity weight or ways to eat food together for better

digestion. It kinda gets annoying, though, since that kind of stuff

is ok, but really, I'm working as hard as I can just to eat

normally! Fruits, veggies, healthy portions! Tricks don't work me!

So, even though they don't direct their comments at me, it still

bugs being around people obsessed with food! OK, I digress. Sorry!

Also - Glad you're back ! Missed you!

Deb M.

make 50kgs. Do you have any suggestions how I can put weight back on?

> I think this is part of the healing reaction but what about the

==>Hi Liz, even though weight is the least of your problem, you can

stop losing weight by having some buckwheat pancakes but do keep the

amount down so they don't work against you by feeding the candida -

the recipe is in our files. I also lost lots of weight when I was

treating my candida. Even though I had some cake-type buckwheat

every day it stopped me from losing weight but it didn't make me gain

weight for many months, which took about 1 1/2 years.

==>For diarrhea eat some cold unpasteurized sauerkraut (at least 1

tablespoon) with every meal or cabbage rejuvelac according to the

recipe - they stabilize the bowel whether you are constipated or have

diarrhea. They also increase digestion and absorption, along with

the lemon juice and ocean sea salt drink I recommend (because of the

minerals needed & lemons increase stomach acid), and good fats like

butter and coconut oil. Fats pull nutrients out of foods and along

with meats stimulate the gall bladder to empty. You might need

digestive enzymes in addition if your absorption is very poor. See

the Digestion folder on how to test for stomach acid and how to take

digestive enzymes.

>

>>

> Also after reading the allergy file, am I right in assuming that

there is no need to rotate any of the foods on your anticandida diet

(as many candida diets recommend) as good foods will only always

provide a healing reaction, which is often misinterrupted as an

allergy?

==>Yes that is true, IF those foods are unprocessed and

unadulterated, the way nature makes them, do not mistake the body's

reaction as allergic, because healing symptoms are the same as

allergic responses.

I'm continuing to lose weight rather than gain. All of my healing

symptoms are in my brain, headaches, dissiness, feeling spacey to

name a few. Please give me some reassurance and tell me what i

particularly need to focus on to help gain some weight back?

==>Sorry my dear, but you do not want to focus on your low weight

while you are dealing with the candida. It is the least of your

problems. Concentrate on curing the candid and your weight will

normalize. You could have one buckwheat pancake per day if you are

really concerned.

==>Even though coconut oil helps a person lose weight it will not

make you lose more weight, and it's benefits are so important for

curing candida and for overall health, so do not hold back on taking

the recommended amounts - for sure! Yes, it does normalize weight.

==>Do have the cabbage rejuvelac - it normalizes bowel function

whether it is constipation or diarrhea. You might want to add one

capsule of a good probiotic as well until your diarrhea subsides.

Not as much as the other diets I have been on like the Maker's Diet and the

Yeast Connection, probably because I am eating more saturated fat now than I

ever have. I would not be surprised if I have a few " bad " cells floating

around in me.

==>Shirley, good saturated fats do not create body fat but it is also

important get enough per the ratios to protein intake as contained in

our Candida Diet folder. You can lower carbs to .5 times the grams

of protein to increase weight loss, but don't change fat ratios.

Olive oil will tend to put weight on as opposed to other good fats,

i.e. coconut oil, butter, lard, chicken fat, etc.

==>To learn more about this go to: http://homodiet.netfirms.com

But do remember that changing over the body can take time.

Unfortunately it takes 4 years to completely correct the damage

caused by bad oils and fats.

==>Like I told you before I am reading The Maker's Diet book, and

fats and oils that he has incorrectly included are flax and

hempseed. Otherwise the fats he lists are good. But his diet is not

intended to cure candida.

Hi Liane!

Personally I have a tremendous amount of weight to lose but in 23 weeks on

this program I have made a huge dent in that by losing 60 pounds so far.

Note: I did not start this program to lose weight but to get healthy.

I was just plain sick and tired of always being sick and tired. The weight

loss has been a pleasant bonus for me. So has the fact my cholesterol is

now considered normal as are triglycerides. My BP at the doctor's this

morning was 116/68...this with no meds at all. Prior to starting this

program it was always very high despite taking 2 pills a day. My blood

sugars are normal and I am off diabetes meds as well. I exercise regularly

and am now training to become a water aerobics instructor at our local Y.

I'm no where near cured of Candida and still have some bad days now and

then; but I am reclaiming my life and enjoying every bit of it. You will

too!

Hugs,

Ellen

PS...Hopefully Debby Hudson will see this and answer too. She's lost over

100 pounds so far!
