Guest guest Report post Posted October 28, 2002 Betty, Don't go back to lurking. You started a really good thread!!! None of us knows all the answers here. That's why we have this forum...to talk things out, learn and get and give support. I may have a different opinion from you and a different strategy but hey, guess what? We both ended up in the same place needing wls! Personally, I don't disbelieve you. I am merely in awe. Nevr, ever in my entire life will I ever weigh 157, unless I'm old, crinkly and very sick. I have lost 120 and am still really fat!! (246). I envy you seeing the day when the scale dipped below 200. You must have been ecstatic. Part of me, a very big part, believes I will never have that experience now matter how hard I work. Before wls I worked out 4 days a week, ate 1400 calories a day..journaled and KNEW I was clean..went from 320 to 265 and just plain stopped. My Dr. said long distance runners only eat 1500 cal a day and run extensively (hard to believe...but they are really skinny). When he said that I went into a big depression thinking no matter how hard I tried i would always be fat...frankly I knew I was putting out the max effort I could on a lifelong basis, and it was hard. That's why I have to let go of the scale. It will drive me insane. I'm sick of chasing a goal which may or may not be attainable and basing my emotional well being and self estem on whether or not I attain that goal. I'm already 44..not that much time left. The best I can do is live well and be happy with where I am (that doesn't mean being happy at 246 and staying there...it means happy at 246 and happy that I have goals and aspirations that I am actually working towards as opposed to just dreaming about them). Any way, there I go blah blah blah again..Don't go away..stay with us. Smiles, Vicki A.making In Graduate-OSSG@y..., " Betty " wrote: > Might be fine for you. Guest guest Report post Posted October 28, 2002 Vicki, and all.... It's late, I'm in a rambling mood, here goes... Your doctor must have been smoking crack that day. Any long distance runner will tell you that they eat CONSTANTLY in order to keep up with the energy/calorie expenditure of long distance running. Any distance runner eating 1500 cals a day would be dead within a few short weeks. *grumble-snort* I hate people who perpetuate these kinds of myths, that doc needs to be bonked upside the head! And this whole thread on weight gain. It totally blows my mind how little the medical community really knows about obesity. It's causes and all that. It's amazing how what works for one person absolutely does not work for the next. I wonder about hormones, and about the power of the mind over the body. I am beginning to believe more and more in self-healing... If a person believes the placebo will work as well as the medication, it most likely will... medical fact. Please don't think that I believe we all don't want it badly enough. If it were all about the mind, I'd have been a size 6 YEARS ago. I just wonder about how it all works together... If we put as much effort into our mental state as we do the state of our bodies, what could we accomplish? *sigh* I'm 5'4 " and I wear a size 6. I also weigh between 146 and 150 lbs on most days. Muscle " weighs " more than fat, and we former fatties had to have a lot of muscle in order to haul our fat around. I'd go more by the measuring tape and the size rack than scale any day! Of course, this does not keep me from hopping on the scale every morning and freaking out when I get over 150 *smirk* Well... we are all human, and can only do so much. We all need to take it easy on ourselves and try to change our " relationship " with food. After 18 months I'm barely learning to be comfortable with not being numbed up with food all the time, and actually feeling my feelings. sheesh. Halloween candy is evil... 'Nuff said, http://www.eradain.com/apoplexy Re: Hello Before wls I worked out 4 days a week, ate 1400 calories a day..journaled and KNEW I was clean..went from 320 to 265 and just plain stopped. Guest guest Report post Posted October 29, 2002 < > I asked one of my good friends what he ate in a typical day - he is a swimmer. Used to be a runner but his knees gave out. When he ran, he ran 8 miles a day, 5 days a week. Now that he swims, he swims 10 miles a day, 4-5 days a week. He is 6'1 " . He eats approximately 2000 calories a day. By all rights, he should be eating something like 3500 safely, but he can't. Everyone's different. Kate
Guest guest Report post Posted November 10, 2002 Hi Christy, Welcome! My name is Alyssa and I have a 4 year old named and he is anaphylactic to peanuts, brazil nuts, and cashews. He is allergic to all nuts, so we keep him away from every kind. He also has eczema and dairy, soy, and high acid foods irritate his eczema so we keep him away or limit his intake of those foods. I have a daughter who is 22 months and she has no allergies! Yay! Anyway, I look forward to chatting with you! If you go to the website of this group, there is something called a database, there is a place where you can write down your name, your child's name and their allergies, so we can keep track of who is allergic to what. Also, there are tons on links as well that you can check out. If you have any that you would like to add please feel free to do so! I am really happy that you joined! There are some great people on this loop! Alyssa mom to (4) anaphylactic to peanuts, brazil nuts, and cashew nuts. Allergic to all nuts. Has Eczema which dairy, soy, and high acid foods irritates Hello Hi! I am new to the group and am looking to share recipes and other info on food allergies. I am the Mother of 3 kids, i have 2 sons 4.5 and Sam 2.5. They have no food allergies. I also have a daughter Abby 18 months who has eczema and is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts and is avoiding all tree nuts, oranges and strawberries. We found out in May that Abby has FAs, her formula was causing eczema that the dermatologist told me not to worry about. She had a reaction to a pb cracker (hives) and then we were told to go to an allergist. Abby cleared up wonderfully for a little while, had her skin test and blood test and tested negative to milk and eggs but Dr said she is allergic so we are avoiding. Guest guest Report post Posted November 12, 2003 Taryn, I did not have a carcelage during the other pregnancies, only with the last one. My doctor was not sure if I had an incompetent cervix or whether the last loss (the only other loss in the second trimester) was related to the IC. I had insisted on the carcelage and they had put it in. Apparently I have a very irritable uterus and the doctors don't know why that happens. There was no infection this time, yet I started to contract at around 18th week. Not sure if I will have the same problem with the abd. carcelage or not. Will have to find a doctor with a lot of experience before going for this last step. I applaud your courage to go through with another try for it must be quite scary to do. Do many women stay on bed rest after the transabd. carcelage? Where is your doctor located? What is the success rate for the doctor that you have decided to use? Thanks again for responding. Guest guest Report post Posted November 13, 2003 Hi Ghislaine, I understand perfectly the reasons to take a break from trying to get pregnant. Its an incredible emotional drain on you, your husband and on all those close to you. I am also not sure as to what to do next. Trying to find as much info as possible in the meantime. I think that I will need to see a reproductive endocrinologist first. then, move on to the next doctor and see what he has to offer. Let me know how your search for the right answers/doctors is going. Blessings, Zhenia

Guest guest Report post Posted November 14, 2003 Hello , I am trying to slowly put myself back together, but it looks like I have a long road ahead of me. I have scheduled a consultation for January with one of the doctors that was recommended in NYC, Dr. Alan Berkley. I hope that I get a good feeling about him and that he makes me feel comfortable enough about this last option. Over the last 4-5 years I have began to trust doctors less and less, realizing how much they still don't know. you are right, sometimes, the more you know, the scarier things get. In situations like this it helps to keep faith in something that can give the spirit strength. Did your doctor give you an option for surgery before or after you get pregnant? It seems that some only do surgeries after conception and others before? Thanks a lot, Zhenia

Guest guest Report post Posted November 21, 2003 I must confess, I am not up on the proper lingo, so I don't know a Class II from a Class III. What I do know is that I had upper/lower/genio surgery to correct and open bite, cross bite, and facial assymetry and I'd be happy to correspond with anybody about this. What I do know is that I had upper/lower/genio surgery to correct and open bite, cross bite, and facial assymetry and I'd be happy to correspond with anybody about this. Sharon Re: Hello I had Class II, but there are lots of Class IIIs here. Also check out Fiddlesticks' geocities cite, and the OSS2 site (I think both are in the links, as is a lot of other info.) Good wishes to you. What you gonna have, and when do you think you'll have it? Cammie > > I'm new to the group and I've been thinking about having this surgery > done. Guest guest Report post Posted December 29, 2003 Go to Fiddlesticks' geocities site, (look in the links) where there are a list of FAQs for surgery etc. Cammie > Hello: I have read your emails with interest the past two weeks. Guest guest Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Hi, ... welcome to the group... I know what you mean about the high cost of strips, especially if you don't have insurance, until recently I had to foot the cost of the strips/meter/lancets and then bill my insurance, which kept losing the paperwork when it came to refunding part of the cost.. My Doctor had prescribed the one touch ultra, which is a excellent brand, but about the most expensive on the market..at 80.00 US and up for the testing strips, I could not afford them even with the insurance, I came across www.diabetesnet.com , doing some research on the net... they offer a meter called quiktek, and it comes in a value pack, that costs around 45.00 including meter/100 strips/carry case, etc... and this also includes the cost of shipping.. I compared the meter against my onetouch and the readings are the same.. another place you can check is Ebay, they auction diabetes stuff on there all the time..but you have to be careful that the strips are not out-dated... hope this helps... Carmen [alldiabeticinternational] Hello Just wished to say thank you for inviting me and all. I am a 43 yr old woman and have had diabetes 10 years now. Not always good with what I do and am definitely lacking lately. I KNOW I need to do the BG test before I eat and after to recheck what works and what doesn¹t. But I don¹t have insurance and need to get another meter too. Right now the strips would be a buck a piece. I am getting confused with the way everyone eats. Low carb high protein low meat more veggies what. Haha. What is Onormal¹ anymore. Well ok longer than I wanted. Sorry. Yours -- The pleasure of love is in loving. I have been taking 500mg/day since 1999 and never had any side effects. Some people get some stomach upset at first but it soon passes off. If you go for regular checkups your physician will take you off it before you get any significant side effects. > I mostly fear my sugar getting too > low can anyone tell me what to > expect. Glucophage delays the liver releasing glucose back into the blood, delays the resorption of glucose in the gut, and increases the take-up of glucose by muscle and fatt cells and even in large doses does NOT cause hypos. It is used all over the world and, with regular medical supervision, is harmless. > My tryglycerides are very high > to normal is 150 mine are over 500. You don't mention your weight, e! The most important number for a type 2 diabetic is your body weight and your waist measurement. If you are overweight, reducing it is the best thing you can spend your efforts on. It makes all the difference between increasing your Glucophage dose as the years go by and going back off it altogether! Guest guest Report post Posted June 8, 2004 e, Glucophage shouldn't bring your levels down too low. Some of the other meds will do that but not glucophage. Les [alldiabeticinternational] Hello It's me e from Atlanta Ga. I am 38 married an an ordained minister. I am type 2 and have been for about 7 years I have tried to do it on my own with diet and exercise but not doing to good I guess becaue doc wants me to start glucophage 500mg once a day. They did the test to see what my overall bg are running and it was 7 she doesn't want them higher than 6.5 doesn't seem like a big difference here so I'm wondering do I need the meds? My bg are always below 250. I am so scared to take the medicine because I fear side effects. I mostly fear my sugar getting to low can anyone tell me what to expect. My tryglycerides are very high to normal is 150 mine are over 500. I have began a group for diabetes and hope you might want to join me there so we can share there as well as here. Thank you. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Diabeticswithlove/ e
Guest guest Report post Posted June 10, 2004 Hi e, I'm in very much the same position. Persuaded them to let me stay diet only provided I improved readings. However I have drifted up to 7 again & unless I lose weight/exercise more it's going to happen. Negotiate - it's a good motivator.
