Guest guest
Dear Darcy, I'm so sorry that you found a jerk, just like I did. As you can tell, I'm with everybody else: Forget this guy. I have to go back see my Rheumy on Monday. It'll take all the strength I have not to kick him where the sun don't shine. Unless of course, he had a personality transplant since I saw him last lol. I wish I knew a good Rheumy in Charlotte to suggest. The only type of doctor that I know in Charlotte is an Endocrinologist and he's the greatest. But, wrong kind of doctor, I'm sorry. {{{Hugs}}} Jacqui Jacqui McCallister Age: 39 Dx'd with FMS: 1995, but symptoms since 1984 Additional Illnesses: Papillary Thyroid Cancer spread to lungs, Intra-Occular Migraines, TMJ, Allergies, Periodontitis, Mitral Valve Prolapse, IBS, Arthritis, Possible MPS and CFS, Osteopenia, Bunions, Heel Spur, Light/Smell/Sound Sensitivties, Edema, Orthostatic Hypotension, Insomnia, Depression, Panic Attacks Location: Ridgeview, West Virginia USA Divorced, no kids. Guest guest
Oh Darcy, I agree with whomever said he is a complete idiot. Now mind you, I have seen my fair share of those as well. I would not go back to him again. You have too many other issues to deal with than having to second guess yourself after seeing a doctor. Any doctor can have that holier than thou attitude if he is not the one in pain all the time. Nice try, doc, but, since you're the one paying him, you're the 'consumer', you don't have to buy in to his crap! Find another doctor sweetie. Darcy, this doc sounds even worse than my " you just need a boyfriend " ex-doc. Run away, run away! He's NOT the doc for you (and from the sound of it I seriously doubt he's the doc for anyone, for that matter). You know what I think? I think -- and this is because I'm going through some doc difficulties right now myself -- I think we gotta start thinking of doctors just like we'd think of plumbers, or electricians, or any other service provider. In other words: If he's bad at what he's doing, don't see him again. If the plumber messes up your pipes, you wouldn't hire him for another job, would you? If your whole house shorts out because the electrician was terrible, he wouldn't be the one you'd call to fix the problem, right? I know this is a simplistic comparison, and easier said than done. But it's the mindset I'm trying to cultivate right now. My " get a boyfriend " doctor was substandard with regard to my care. So I got him on the phone and fired him. None of us has to put up with that. If it's unbearable, don't do it. Find another doc, try an internist or a pain specialist if there are no other rheumatologists in your area. Doctors and nurses like to ask you questions. Ask them some questions. If I need help, will you support me? If I call because I am in severe pain, will you respond appropriately, or blow me off? Will you trust me to be a good judge of my own condition and take me seriously? No doctor can be a better judge of what's going on than you yourself. And man, this is what I'm telling myself right now, over and over again. I'm sick of being ignored or not taken seriously by doctors. The next one I see (next month, hopefully) will meet the New, Improved (hopefully) and far more Assertive Em. I have one question for him, which I will ask the moment I go in. CAN YOU HELP ME? If he says yes, then we'll go from there. If he hesitates or hedges, then I will thank him for his time and contact my PCP for yet another referral to another doctor. Sorry for the ranting, but I am SO mad that your doc treated you that way, Darcy, and I'm just chewing up nails and spitting out tacks over here. ARGH! *steaming* Em ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It is the tale, not he who tells it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Guest guest
Darcy, I would like to say one thing & this is only my opinion, but get another doctor. I couldn't help but feel rage the whole time I was reading your post. Some doctors can be such jerks. I mean for you to be so upset that you are crying & to just tell you to stop!!! Please, give me a break. There are other doctors out there that will help you & not try & force you to use his program or have to change insurance. It may take some time, but I think it would be worth it. He doesn't seem like he understands anything. It so horrible that we have to be in pain & so many doctors don't understand. I really think you should reconsider seeing him. Take care Diane --- Darcy Stockstill wrote: > Well, I just came from the rheumatologist who > specializes in fibro. What also blew my mind was he went through the usual, " do you drink coffee, tea, sodas, etc. " routine. I don't, and don't drink or smoke. My *only* vice is every once in a while I have a tiny (one of those squares of milky ways, one tiny bite) of chocolate. He *immediately* told me to dump doing that, chocolate was full of caffeine. Now, I take Excedrin to help with my migraines on a regular basis. He didn't even mention cutting those out! I'm sure that tiny piece of chocolate can in no way have 65 mg of caffeine! I'd give up the Excedrin except the fibro pain is less than a migraine! Darcy

Thanks, it seems if you can't exercise, you end up with the " you really aren't trying and don't want to help yourself " routine. I can't quite get it through these guys heads, I use to walk all the time, I *like* to walk. If I'm not walking, it's because it's beyond me. And his " you're so fat, you need to immediately join Weight Watchers " blew my mind. I know I need to loose some weight, but I'm not obese. I'm on steroids which makes it hard to loose weight, not being able to exercise doesn't help either. I called myself " fat " at my gp appointment just 4 days prior and she said, " Darcy, you're not fat. I don't know where you got that idea from.
