Guest guest
, are you talking about an ABA therapist or a behavior specialist, trained in ABA? I know that most public schools without a cluster don't have a behavior specialist on staff. They have a travelling one that comes to the school once a week. And even if they have an ABA-trained person on staff, no student is getting 1-on-1 ABA therapy...Am I mistaken?Gabi Sent from my iPhoneOn Apr 22, 2010, at 3:02 PM, "monicagomez1954" my wrote: The ABA will only come once a week in every school, they're not there everyday for your child and if your child is in crisis..they still will come one day a week and the school teacher's are not trained for the crisis, sorry but it's the truth..been there..done that...I had to swtich my child to a special school where they have ABA everyday. > > It is my understanding that Broward Schools now offers ABA in it's schools. Guest guest
I doubt that there's a school in Broward that provides ABA for any amount of time. Schools without a cluster have a behavior specialist come in weekly but that's it, she/he is there for 1/2 a day to serve the whole school. Guest guest
I think perhaps that people are confusing ABA with the role of a behavior specialist. Both are not the same thing. A behavior specialist comes into the home or school to help out with negative behaviors, they try to see what triggers the problem and comes up with a plan to see if the negative behavior can be reduced or eliminated. This type of plan is not really ABA.ABA is a type of a behavior therapy recommended for children on the spectrum which may have some behavior components but can also have language or and academic goals. Most of these programs are runned by a behavior specialist since they should be able to handle the possible backlash of a child not wanting to learn a new concept. A good program would be with one with experience with ABA as a whole not just behaviors. However a behavior specialist may have nothing to do with a ABA program and they may just work with certain behaviors and assist the parent or teacher on what to do.Right now there are very few true behavior specialists for Broward schools. At my daughter's school the autism coach is expected to fill that role. With that said, I know of no broward school that applies 'true' ABA therapy to our kids.
