You know, when I saw my first endo who rushed me into RAI and lied to me

about ATD's, the one thing both my husband and I remember is something she

said about the weight gain. She told me I WOULD gain weight, a lot of

weight, and that some people have literally doubled their body weight after

RAI. She also said that weight gain after surgery is going to happen but

not to the degree of what people after RAI gain. She started out in

medicine in Germany, maybe that is where she came up with this, or some of

the other garbage she spewed out.

I do know that in the years before the storm and diagnosis I gained weight

when I shouldn't have. We had changed our diets, I walked 3 miles a day

most days and sweated to the oldies with ...it kept on coming to the

point of about 35 pounds. The closer I got to the storm I lost weight

rapidly. About 50 pounds. With in 6 months after having RAI I had gained

60 pounds back, even though my diet didn't change. Left hypo for 4 years

plus I have gained another 20 pounds. I am a short person, this weight

takes too much out of me and causes really bad back pain...but nothing seems

to work. Not even my big red exercise/bouncing ball. I keep trying, and

keep hoping that one of these days. Even if I could lose 35/40 pounds it

would make a world of difference and I could get back to walking again,

which, right now, is very hard to go very far because of my back.

Anyhow, there is my whine to this thread. And I don't think anyone is

really going to do anything about finding out WHY this happens with so many

of us...they would rather blame and guilt us. Dawn Rose is right, doctors

use their authority and positions of trust to brow beat us, then we beat

ourselves up because we continue to fail and it is NOT our fault. <sigh>

I should have mentioned in the last post that I think the one reason I

believe I am losing is that I am off ATDs. When I was on ATDs it was

difficult.

Hi ,

I would lose about 20 lbs. than I wouldn't lose and I would gain it back.

At that time I also had a very low immune system and it seems like I would

get sick and then start gaining the weight back. Also skipping meals I

don't lose and gain. Now I try very hard not to skip meals. This

experience with my Dad has made me even more determined to lose the weight.

Coming off slow, but I am learning as I go to maintain it. I also have a

sister that could anything she wanted until she reached age 30, after that

she had to watch.
