Guest guest
Hi, Ana gave you good advice about checking with your doctor. Not knowing just what stage of thyca treatment you are in, moderate exercise like walking will help many things, even while hypo unless contraindicated - perhaps especially while hypo. Are you having RAI treatment? I don't see that in your tag-bio. Guest guest
Hi Dae Woo, It's three months since your last neck surgery so far as I can see. If you were exercising regularly before your surgeries I would just go ahead, but take it easy if you've been " resting " for a while. If you're thinking of taking up something new or unusual for you then it might be an idea to touch base with your doctor first. I certainly found exercise (swimming, cycling, walking) to be very positive in getting over my surgery and through the hypo/RAI period - it helped me to deal with the stress as well as combating the hypo feeling and keeping me fit(ter). But take care and don't do what I did! Last year I went through neck surgery for the third time (parathyroidectomy for Primary Hyperparathyroidism) and after surgery I felt so much better than I had done in months that I took myself off to the gym six days later...only to think " oops! " as I finished a ten-minute session on the rowing (!) machine. My neat scar felt a bit lumpy for a few weeks afterwards and I may have popped some internal stitches. I stuck to the treadmill and exercise bike after that, and fortunately I now have a nice flat scar line now. By the way I don't see any mention of RAI treatment in your signature...? Guest guest
Hi solomon3, I'm 8 weeks post-myomectomy and have been trying to get outside and walk every day. My doctor was kind of vague about what kinds of specific exercises I could do besides walking and swimming. (I don't have anywhere to swim.) He did say it was fine to start back at my aerobic dancing class at 12 weeks post-op, but he stressed 'no abdominals,' (sit ups, crunches, etc.) I've been doing some gentle yoga stretching, but don't feel ready to do anything else besides the walking right now... I guess everyone heals at a different pace and we have to listen/tune in to our own body. I'm having a problem with constipation and that causes some discomfort where the fibroids were. I've been gaining weight and need to do some more vigorous exercise soon -- walking feels good but I can't lose any lbs. that way! Does anybody else have more specific advice from their doctors? Anybody try aerobics at 8 weeks? Thanks.
Guest guest
Hi solomon3, I am entering my 6th week post myo and since the first week I have been walking just about everyday, except on the days that I know I will have a long day. I am up to about 2 miles in 4 minutes. I talked to my dr last week and he told me that next week I can go back to doing my lifting and aerobics . . . but to listen to my body. Hearing all the differences in opinions from each of our drs via this board can be confusing. I guess that the differences for when we do different types of activities depends on the methods of surgery, and the extent of our surgeries. > Hi solomon3, > I'm 8 weeks post-myomectomy and have been trying to get outside and walk > every day. Guest guest
My doctor's instructions were to walk as immediately after the surgery as I could. My first few days out of the hospital I couldn't even make it around the block, but I took it slowly and was up to about a mile by 5 weeks. He told me not to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds or do any abdominal exercises for 6 weeks. I had a bad week at 6 weeks, so actually resumed my regular exercise regime at 7 weeks (bicycling or stair stepper at the gym and weight lifting 2-3 times per week). Took it easy on the weights the first few weeks. Was back to most of my normal weights at about 3 months. Still using lower weights on abdominals (now at 4 months), due to still feeling some weakness there. FBK

Guest guest
, Yes, I am training for a 1/2 marathon that is October 26th. We are walking it - but 13.1 miles is FAR. We actually did 14.5 last week and man were we tired, but since training all summer we are doing great. The schedule is here http://walking.about.com/library/how/nhowhalfmarathon.htm if you want to see it. I highly suggest following this schedule if you ever want to do this. I also have an elliptical trainer that I will use more in the winter. I live in NY and last year it was like -3 for months; much colder than normal. I eat every single AP I earn. At first I did not and I stopped losing again. This was before flex when we banked points. Well I was eating my minimum (I think 24) and earning 6 or 8 APs. I freaked out. Thought I would weigh 200 forever - no matter what I did. I posted about my trauma and called my best friend who is a ww'er as well and everyone told me to EAT. 24points-8APs=16 points=starvation mode! You can not live on 16 points which is approximately 800 calories a day. I was of the old eating disorder mindset where food=bad. I started eating my APs and I was scared to death I would get fatter! But I lost like 3 pounds that week. I have not been scared ever since. I know you did not ask about that but I never want anyone to go through what I did - it was awful. I ate minimum for 3 WEEKS, earned APs that I would not let myself eat and was one pissed off hungry chubby girl. It was awful after 3 weeks of hell to lose nothing. Guest guest
Yes....I am a night owl that's for sure. I took the latest shift possible in my department but I would love to work nights. I hate mornings. I am not nor have I ever been a morning person. Neither is my mom. I knew NOT to talk to her until after she had a cup of coffee when I lived at home. Will that change? Probably not but it's been almost 29 years so I'm pretty used to NOT being a morning person! LOL! I love going to the gym late at night but I have started going right after work with a coworker. I will do this until I move or until I get another job on the other side of town....whichever comes first. Of course she didn't show up today but that's okay. I just worked out alone. But it is nice to go work out and come home and be done with it and not have to go anywhere else for the rest of the night. As for getting up in the morning and getting it over and done with....that will never happen! LOL! I get up with just enough time to shower and get to work. I push it every day and sleep until the very last minute but I'm never late so that's a good thing! Good luck to you all who can work out first thing in the morning. And about the making the bed e-mail you guys sent out? I don't think I have EVER made my best just because. Ask my mom...did I ever make my bed? Still don't! LOL! What's the point? You just get right back in it! LOL! As for her bed, it's always made and nice and neat. I didn't want to mess it up when I stayed at her house last year. And what's up with women (you know you do it) putting 20,000 pillows on the bed for decoration? I stayed at my friends house back in May and I stayed in the guest room. She had a bed COVERED with pillows. It took me about 10 minutes to take all the pillows off to get in. And just imagine what it was like trying to make the bed back up and put the pillows back on when I left. They were all on there but it didn't look anything like it did before. Women have a knack for pillow-on-the-bed-decorating! LOL! Happy Wednesday. Weigh in day tomorrow. It's gonna be a nail biter!
TOPS LOVE, Subject: Re: exercise Sounds like you and like to exercise at the same time, except for the fact he is just getting home at that time LOL!!! I think if I spent as much time exercising as I do making excuses NOT to exercise getting on I would definitely get 7 below goal!! Need to take Vernie's advice and do it first thing in the morning.
