Hello,

I also heard that I was not big enough to be four, five, six, and seven

months pregnant. My due date is in two and a half weeks and people are not

telling

me that I look like I am ready any day now. Sometimes people don't always

know what they are saying. When they told me that I did not look big enough to

be as pregnant as I was, it scared me. I am 41, and I was afraid the baby was

not growing properly.

Okay, I hit the send key too soon:

For some reason, I would never tell anyone, " Gee, your child does not look

big enough to be seven years old. " Don't they realize they are saying the same

thing to me when they say, " You don't look big enough to be that pregnant. "

Sometimes I wonder if it just normal maternal competitiveness between mothers.

So far, I have never heard a comment like that from a man or from a woman who

is not a mom.

My son is seven years old and off the charts in size. Like I said, I would

never say to anyone, " Your child does not look big enough to be seven. " My son

was always off the charts in size. Now he is a head taller than all the

other kids his age. When he was younger, he was only a matter of inchces

talller

than kids his age. Other mothers constantly told me that their kids were much

taller than mine until they saw them standing side by side. Then they got

embarrassed or angry.

Some women have their own insecurities for competing with other mothers. We

just have to let it roll of our backs because we know we have healthy kids who

are all wonderful in their own ways.

Hello,

This is embarrassing, but I hit the send key too soon and everything got

mixed up in my posts about pregnancy size. What I meant was that people are NOW

telling me that I look like I am going to deliver any day now. My due date is

in two in half weeks. That was a typo which I never had a chance to correct.

Previously, I was told that I did not look pregnant enough to be as far along

as I was. It was scary to hear that because I thought of the baby's health

and birthweight. My point was that some mothers are competitive with other

mothers. I have never heard a comment like that from a man or from another

woman

is not a mother. People have their own insecurities which make them say these

things.

Last month, a woman saw me and said " You finally look pregnant. You did not

even look pregnant the last time I saw you. " She made so many comments to me

about my pregnancy size it was unbelievable. I said, " Taller women do not pop

out as soon as shorter women do. The fondal height is 40 cm, and it shows up

less on a taller woman. I have heard about some tall women who barely look

pregnant, and they have nine pound babies. " She appeared to be astounded that

I finally defended myself.

Some mothers will always be saying these things to eachother. As long as we

know our children are healthy there is nothing to worry about.

As my current thing is thinking about what is a normal gait I picked up on

the following........

How long did you figure it took the brain to figure out what could be called

'normal'...... and actually do it???

I find these peculiar things happening as my brain fiddles trying out

changes in the center of gravity etc and this business of figuring what is a

normal gait doesn't seem too easy........ groan. I seem to get confused

easily as yet and end up walking like some weird out of sinc robot if I try

to concentrate on what I am doing/watching myself in mirrors etc........ Do

you have any tips or was it just something that you woke up one day with it

happening........???.

Hi Tess!

Welcome aboard! Who is performing your surgery? I'm 6 weeks post-op

today (hooray!) and happier than I've been in a LONG time. (you can

ask my family!!!) I'm able to walk unassisted and am riding my bike

around the neighborhood (carefully so as not to have an accident and

end up on the ground unexpectedly!). Am looking forward to being able

to get out and hit tennis balls again in another 6 weeks. These past

6 weeks have absolutely FLOWN by. I didn't expect that, so I've been

pleasantly surprised!

Feel free to ask about anything I may have experienced to date. I'm

more than willing to answer any questions and remove some of the

unknown for those contemplating resurfacing.

You are more than welcome. Wish everyone with hip problems could know

of this procedure before they end up unknowingly with a THR. I was

almost one of those! Boy! Would I have been PISSED if that had been

the case! I am so excited about getting my life back VERY soon. I was

depressed thinking of my life ahead when I thought I'd have to have

the THR. I am a very active person. That would have changed

dramatically. Ugh! I am a happy camper now!

Hi Tess!

Welcome to the group!

Where do you come from and where is your operation planned?

I had my BHR operation 4 weeks ago at dr. Koen De Smet in Gent-

Belgium. I come from the Netherlands.

My operation was very successfull and I am recovering now.

Walking around on 1 crutch (soon without, I hope..). I had no pain

after the operation, but my leg was swollen and I could not move it.

1 Day after the operation I got a fysiotherapist working on my

leg and I had to walk with a walking-rack and 2crutches. Every day I could

move my operated leg a little bit more.

You need a lot of patience and you know that you don't have the walking

problems and pain anymore of the time before the operation..

For some reason your email doesn't seem to have come through complete - if you

check down further, you will see what I mean. You certanly have spent a lot of

time out here . Unfortunately, I wish I could say the same about Quebec, but I

have not had the chance to visit there yet. I have ancestors from there too,

quite famous ones - my great-great-great grandfather was e from

Montreal and you probably know e Street there. His family home was there,

when it was still farm country. He became a famous furtrader with the Hudon BAy

Company and NOrthwest Company (circa 1800-1832). There is even a website about

him and his history, being born in Montreal and later returning there when he

left the HBC. So it makes me fel that I have a Montreal connection, from far

back in time.

I too wish you well with your surgery, you are very fortunate to be having

it so soon, I think that a higher power is watching out for you.(and hopefully

for me too).

opportunity to practice a little. l'am happy that you are going to

have your surgery. lt is on the other hand a tragedy that the

accessibility of our health care systems are so deficient. l know the

Okanagan Valley very well including Penticton. l worked in Calgary

several years from november to april with guys from the Okanagan

Valley.l was migrating to the Okanagan Valley working in orchards

every summer.l worked several seasons 3 miles south of Summerland. l

walked up to the giant's head so many times. One of the main reason l

prefer Osoyos has to do with French Canadians that go to the Valley.

Unfortunately and its a shame that too many of our fellows come to

the Valley for a season and have no respect towards your people and

also their properties and l just cannot stand it.

l will pray that your resurfacing will be a success, that you

will recover completely and resume to an active and fruitfull life.

On my side l hope to have my resurfacing next month. lf l recover

completely, l have plans to spend the summer in the Okanagan, this

sounds awkwards is not it, because l have 10 weeks in my holliday

bank. Just imagine being healthty again to the point of picking

fruits. If it is not possible, l could then get involve with Green

Bay Bible Camp. in any ecase this will offer the opportunity to my

kids an exquise environment to my children to tackle English. l

Tony, we may meet in Lexington Med Center! I'm flying down from Detroit on

Sept. 16th for pre-op with Dr. Gross, then have the operation early morning

on the 18th (right hip). I'm calling the hospital to find out the name of

a hotel which I was told by friends is right across the street from Lex.

Hi Everybody,

Sorry I haven't had a chance to write in so long. Apologies to

everyone I've been in touch with. It's been quite a while since my

last elated post. I had just recieved my date of Sept 15 for surgery

with Dr Gross. Since then it's been a real rollercoaster white-

knuckle ride. I was up 'til 1:30AM this morning writing up the

complete saga with all it's blood curdling details but I was so

bleary eyed I must have hit the wrong button and lost the whole

thing. I'll never write another post in that stupid box again. It's

MS Word from now on.

Suffice it to say that due to totally unexpected insurance snags, it

was looking like I would'nt be getting my surgery after all. Only a

last minute miracle has put me back on track and God willing, I'm

heading south on Wednesday as planned.

I have a couple of last minute questions for everyone and the Doc

Gross vets in particular. I'll be at Lexington Med Center and I'm

about to reserve a room for my wife at the Ramada. Is this an OK

place or can someone recommend a better alternative?

What, if any, medical gadgets do they send you home with? Do you keep

the leg wedge thing? Should I bring my own crutches and what type

does Gross recommend? What's the story with the polar thing?

I'm being discharged on a Thursday (hopefully) and my flight home is

for 5:50 pm. Whats the usual discharge time?

And would someone please go over the list of gadgets I'll need at

home one last time just so I can double check my list. Getting a bit

nervous and finding too many things to think about.

Any last minute advice is appreciated and thanks for all your help.

Yes, Just do not eat, drink anything, no medication. That should slow

us getting any type of cancer. So scary sometimes. You see, my cancer

is supposed run in my family. I was not obese, did not eat alot of

red meat, and was in great physical shape. Have a horse farm and

clean stalls, ride horses, care for many other critters, put up hay.

So that goes against all the critirea(sp?) for being high rish colon

cancer. Tell me how I got it anyway!!! Cannot believe a word they

say, can we now? So we all will beat this no matter what our odds

are. How can one trust what these professionals tell us. (Smile) I

feel better already. Going to go to bed already. Must face Day two of

Chemo!!!!

Strangely, I've worked more fatalities on Christmas Day than any other

particular day of the year when I've worked.

One year, we got our new shiny LP 12 for Christmas (yes, that morning,

it went on the truck). We'd used it by lunchtime...

you must be a devoted friend and that is soemthign you can give her
