What I mean it that, to *ME*, when I hear someone say TITTY, I think of something sexual, like a titty bar, or something. I think it has to do with the way society has made breast such a sexual part of being a women. I had a similar discussion one day with a friend of my husbands who was saying I was sexually abusing my child, and as he put it " if she was sucking on my tits I HAD to be getting off on it " and in his mind this constitutes as sexual abuse. I told him WHY did he think God had put breast on women in the first place, and I could BET him it surely was not just to please men!! So again I think it had to do with the way we as women have been made to think that breast are for the pleasure of men, and nothing more. I also would like for Lexi to learn as much as she can about her heritage, I think it is a beautiful culture. I keep trying to get my husband to speak to her in Korean, but he won't do it, he says it is hard for him to speak Korean to her, when we usually speak English here at home. But so if he won't do it, I am going to go and buy a few Korean tapes and play them all the time. I would really like for her to be able to know it. Guest guest
Here in the UK tit and titty are pretty offensive and considered swear words. Most people refer to them as boobs. I always ask Verity if she wants milk. I figure if she says that in public no one's going to know what she means! Guest guest
I've never had a problem in public at all. He is 17 months and a lot of the time we go out he is uninterested in nursing and has a cup instead. I make him concentrate if he nurses, so he's usually way too busy for that. If he does ask me he comes right to me and asks he never screams it across a room. Anyway he is so shy that he isn't too far away from my side when were in public. Guest guest
I could see why you think that is crude. I don't really get anything like that. My dh said it a few times when my 7yo was born and then he grew out of it. I guess for me titty has turned into its own word without all those other connotations. I can also ask Zaid if he wants mama's milk and he knows what I am talking about. He just still can't really say milk. Wendi Re: name question From: Phawxsee@... Guest guest
Other than " mama " , " dada " , or " nana " .... Gracie doesn't talk yet. I have always been a little conscious as to how I referred to our nursing times. I had a friend who's dh used to say " You want some titty " He did it in a joking playful way but the kid picked up on it and that's what he called it. It REALLY bothered me ! *L* Anyway......... What I say is " You want some mama's milk ? " Or I'll say " You want some milk ? " Something like that.... One day at the park I asked if she wanted some " mama's milk " and the lady next to me thought I said " LLAMA'S milk ! " *ROFL* I thought it was cute.... But hey, people drink cow and goat milk, why NOT llama ? Something to think about.... Guest guest
>anyone know the origin of calling breasts a " tit " ? > It might be of anglo-saxon origin. I know tit and titties was used in anglo-saxon writings as early as 1400s (had to decipher a story written for the English court). However, many anglo-saxon terms for body parts were considered vulgar ever since the Norman invasion. So using them in stories was sort of voyerism (sp?), at least that seemed to be the impression I got. The term tits replaced or in addition to titties came much later (I hazard to guess around 1800s). I studied word origins in college, but this particular one was not part of the curriculum. For more info, you could check an unabridged dictionary...it would probably give the difinitive listing of usage <VBG>. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
