Hi nursing mommies,

My name is Amy I'm a sahm to three boys. I breastfeed my oldest

two for one year each and am currently exclusive nursing my three month

old. I live in Va. My favorite hobby is collecting Anne Gedde's I am a

freak about that stuff. And I am a major talker. I am a internet

fanatic and love these lists. I am a list owner as well and get about

200 e-mails a day so what will a little more hurt!

Now that I found you all I have some questions.

1.I always supplemented my two older with formula, and am trying to pump

for this one. I bought the avent bottle system and have tried using my

medela hand pump. I have about 1oz and half in one day. How is the

world do you do this?

2. Also is it okay to layer milk in the freezer?

3. I have been adding to my frozen baggie and hope it's okay. Will my

milk build up?

4. And does anyone else's baby spit up constantly? is almost 4

months and is over 16 pounds so I know he's gaining but he spits up so

much it's unreal. You'd think I was a first time mom I just forgot

everything!

Well glad to be here!

Amy mommy 2 (5), (2), and (3) months!!!

- Oh wow you must have amazing help at home. How different is it

not only have older children and a toddler, but having a boys after two

girls? I'm starting to think this pumping thing is an impossible dream!

Thanks for the greeting!

Sherry- Hi there I'm in Manassas! Did you have those babies at the UVA

hospital? Pretty scary story huh! Certainly made me think when I was

having . What formula did you use for your first three? I

supplemented with carnation and if this pump thing doesn't work I'm not

sure what I " ll try. Thank you for the welcome.

Wendi- Okay now I don't mean to sound dumb but where can I find goats

milk? Is it at the local grocery store or do I need to head elsewhere?

Is it homegized like cows milk? And can you give it to a little one?

Amy,

Welcome! My name is Wendi 29yrs. 2 kids. Kaija girl 7yrs. Zaid boy 15mo. still

nursing. I still can't pump and have always supplemented with goats milk. I

personally don't like formula and have never given it to my son. I only get a

small amount pumping. I am taking fenugreek right now just to help increase my

milk supply so Zaid won't wean yet. I have a friend whose baby spit up

constantly until about 10-12 months breast or formula. She finally outgrew it

and never had any other problems. Just be patient and carry a cloth. Again

welcome.

No I would not have had them there. I was in pre-term labor over there

though with . I just kept praying for him to not be born there. That

hosp is messed up more then the public knows. I fed Isomil (milk

allergy), was Nutramagen (allergic to everything), Kaitlyn was Isomil.

The main reason I decided to BF was the strong tendency towards allergies we

have.

Welcome Amy

I am a mom to four the youngest being almost 5mos. I am a " veteran

pumper " having

pumped for over two years now. (first for my 2yr and now for the baby) It is

not a good

idea to add fresh warm milk to frozen (it will defrost the top layer) If you

want to add

to frozen then cool the fresh milk in the freezer first. About the pump

question, I think

the amount you get will vary all the time. I know it does with me. Somedays I

get 6oz a

pump and others only 3, I have the avent also for home and use the medela

classic at

work. In the morning when I have an extremely abundant supply I pump on one

side and feed

on the other.

Abby(the baby) had the spit up problem which they found out was reflux. Now she

is on

medications which have helped tremendously. Dont know if that is the problem

with yours or

not. They ruled out the fact that I was eating something that would have

bothered her and

then started her on medicenes.

Sorry to be so long winded.

Look forward to talking with you.

a

Oh I am in VA also.

Hi Again Amy!

It's great the way it all happened with the kids!

My oldest works at a daycare so she likes a little quite when she gets home,

LOL!

I'm so happy to get a Son! I grew up with 3 Brother's and no Sister's so

it's great that I am blessed with both! ...for my kids!

Pumping works for a lot of women...I just didn't " have " to do it, so I

didn't try hard enough.

Love,

Amy,

I get ultra pastuerized and homogenized goats milk at my local Safeway. I am

not sure if they have it at all Safeways but they can probably get it. I gave

it to my son at about 3 months. My ped said so long as he got more breastmilk

than goat milk that it was okay. I started with it diluted half and half with

water. I think you can also get it raw from health food stores. Won't last as

long.

Wendi

Re: Welcome to breastfeedingonelist

Wendi- Okay now I don't mean to sound dumb but where can I find goats

milk? Is it at the local grocery store or do I need to head elsewhere?

Is it homegized like cows milk? And can you give it to a little one?

Amy mommy 2 (5), (2), and (3) months!!!

Won't last as

long.

Wendi- Okay now I don't mean to sound dumb but where can I find goats

milk? Is it at the local grocery store or do I need to head elsewhere?

Welcome Amy! I am a SAHM also. My husband is in the Navy we live in Hampton,

VA it is in between Norfolk and burg. I am a first time mom, so I

can't realy help with many of your questions. I do have problems with my son

spitting up a lot. Sometimes he will spit up almost everything he eats it

seems like. The ped said he has reflux, it is were the flap on the stomach

doesn't close all the time. As they get older the flap develops more.

Although my husband and all of his side still have problems with it. It is

like a cronic heartburn. Well that is about it.

Welcome Amy,

I'm a SAHM to two DD's Catelynd (6 yrs) and Adeline (6 mths). I'm in

Australia, so I tend not to be able to answer too many questions about

brands, etc.

I was wondering why you were pumping? (as well as feeding I assume).

Hi to everyone else as well.

I also did the Fenugreek thing when Adeline was two weeks old and I had a

decrease in supply (which I think was stress related, lack of rest, death of

MIL, travel to Melbourne by car, 10 hours south, on own with two DD'S).

Worked like a charm for me and was able to stop taking tablets after about

14 days, when supply re-established.

I'm after information on Mastitis. I've had two really bad cases (first

bilateral, with a breast abscess, which had to be drained, intravenous

antibiotic and 10 day stay in hospital, second " hospital in the home " for 48

hrs of intravenous antibiotics). I'm wondering if you are ever " out of the

woods " in chances of developing it. I know it's more common in the first few

weeks, then does likelihood decrease?

Thanks

,

I too have had mastitis...although not as severe as you. I know that it

is not a fun thing! Anyway...i just wanted to make a few comments. When

you feed your baby, make sure that you feed her long enough to empty a lot

of the milk out of the breast, also, it is a good idea to try different

positions to help fight against mastitis as well. I know that it is not

fun...but, hang in there!

Amy,

I know how frustrating to pump small amounts. I did layer my milk since I

would only have 2 1/2 oz per pumping session and I didn't have room in my

freezer to store a bunch of bottles. It is not reccommended to do this

layering, but we had no problems with it. As far as the spit up issue goes,

the amount usually looks like a lot more than it really is. I would, consult

your health care professional...just in case. There is something called

gastro esophageal reflux which can cause sypmtoms like the spitting up. Keep

asking questions, these ladies have lots of great suggestions.

Hang in there before supplementing with formula. There are many options about

how you can build up your supply. Just ask when and if you cross this bridge.
