I thank you for sharing that wonderful story with all of us. What an

emotional tale you have to tell. I just love to hear about special little ones

like both of your Jake's. You would think my Jake would have the middle name

since that's dh's name AND my Dad's name AND my brother's name. ( not

to mention many other's in my family). Well, I just love that story!

Welcome!! Glad to hear he's getting better hope it's gone ASAP. My husband

had that as a child. My mother in law says she couldn't breastfeed him because

of it. I am glad you were more informed then she was.

Welcome to the list .

I used to babysit a sweet little boy named Neil, have a soft place in my

heart for Neils.

Have you tried the lactaid drops for the reflux. Cherie, our resident

expert, will need to post to you. After she mentioned it. I went out and

bought some for myself, and 2 of my moms foster babies. They both get

cranky and gassey after they eat. I'm lactose intolerant so I use it for my

babies. Even my bfed baby-Cody almost 10 mo's.

Again welcome.

Hi! My name is Abi and I have a 6 month old son named Dakota. I have

breastfed him since he was born. I've got a question. My dr and all my

friends, family, everyone is telling me that I need to start him on

solid food. He has NO interest in this. He's perfectly happy nursing.

How has everyone handled it when they started being pressured by family

and friends to start to ween?

Weaning is too personal to allow influence from others to be the deciding

factor. Quite frankly, NOBODY will care next year or in 10 years the age of

your child and the reason for weaning. but YOU will..forever. It really

needs to be done on inspiration, done by the baby, or by whatever reason YOU

feel best about. Otherwise the grief is yours alone to bear. Humor works

best with most people. Tell them that you are spacing your children and

don't plan on having another one for 2 more years and that you heard the

best way to avoid the pain of nursing a new born is to still have a nursing

child. Better yet, tell them you want your children 5 years apart. The

more ridiculous the better. Or just smile and ignore.

About feeding your baby. Here are a few clues: First teeth. Babies who

have teeth are usually ready to eat something..of course there are those who

are born with teeth..they are NOT ready. Most babies don't get teeth until

around 8-9 months give or take a few.

Tongue Thrust. If the baby is still pushing baby food out with his/her

toungue, than he is not ready for food.

Just because food is grabbed doesn't mean that babies are hungry.

EVERYTHING goes into the mouth.

Some babies want to eat (trust your knowledge of your baby) at 6 months and

go at it slowly, some want the world in a gulp. Others don't want to eat

much until after they are a year old. Watch for discomfort after eating and

put it off a bit longer if they are uncomfortable and you suspect it is

eating.

Remember that nursing is intended to be the main meal, every meal. Whenever

possible, nurse the baby before feeding and again after. It is a delicate

balance, introducing food and keeping up with nursing. Not giving a bottle,

giving liquids in a cup, giving those liquids in small amounts so nursing is

maintained, nursing first, nursing for all naps, etc..these things will

ensure that you are able to nurse for a long time after meals are an

important part of the baby's life.

Cherie

Hi there!! Welcome!! I have a 7 mo old girl. She is exclusively breastfed.

I have not started any solids yet. I did let her chew on a cracker last

night at dinner(out, not home) because she was squealing so loud, and it

was the only thing that would quiet her down. I may start to let her chew

on stuff now, but will not just sit her down and offer her food from a

spoon yet. I am happy being her sole source of food!! She has not even had

any bottles. I dread having to go anywhere that she might need to eat while

I am gone!! Do not cave in to peer(or dr) pressure!! Babies are fine as

long as they continue to nurse enough!

I tried Marty on stage two baby food and I actually got him to

open his mouth. Only once or twice. But a lot better then before. I

think maybe the stage ones are too bland or something.
