Hang in there before supplementing with formula. There are many options about

how you can build up your supply. Just ask when and if you cross this bridge.

Hi Amy,

Welcome to the list! I am fairly new as well. I am a SAHM to my sweet daughter

Cailyn. She

is also almost 4 months (born Nov 4th). When was born?

On the pumping issue, I was unable to get anything sufficient with the avent

isis manual

pump, so I rented a lactina select for a month. After using the lactina I was

able to use

the manual pump and get a lot more!

I have all of my milk layered in the freezer on top of the ice...I have tried to

layer it

so that the last one I pumped is on the bottom. After pumping I put the milk bag

into a

ziplock baggie and freeze it, then I place it under the rest after it is frozen.

I have always heard not to add to already frozen milk, it melts the top layer

and can

allow bacteria to grow. You can put it in the fridge and add to it all day and

then freeze

the entire days pumping at once.

Cailyn spits up alot some days as well, I just figure she got her little belly

too fulll

trying to be a piglet! LOL

Welcome again,

Kym and Cailyn (11-4-98)

Hello everyone!

Angelia,

Welcome to the list. Its great you had an open mind and were willing to try to

breastfeed. Its the best thing you can do for your baby. What a wonderful

Dawn welcome to the list. I am glad to hear that breastfeeding has worked out

for you. I think breastfeeding is far from inconveinent. My mom bottlefed

me, and when I told her all the benifits of breastfeeding she said that she

would have had she known all that, esp the part of the no period. I am a

person who needs to sleep at night. I go to bed around 9 maybe 10 and wakes

up around 6 or 7. I had problems the first couple of months with my son cause

he had really bad tummy problems and didn't sleep through the night, but after

he did it is so much nicer. When he is hungry all I have to do is roll over.

No getting up fixing bottles making sure they are the right temp. and

whatever else is invovled. I love breastfeeding! This is a great list, I

have learned a lot and have gotten losts of support. =o)

Hello-

My name is Dawn. I'm the mom of a three month old baby boy. I am

breastfeeding. I didn't really think it would work out for me, because I

heard so many nightmare stories about excruciating pain and engorgement and

inconvenience.

But it has been a totally positive experience for me, I haven't had any

problems, I've had no pain at all. And I know that I'm doind the best

possible thing for my baby.

I have very strong opinions about breastfeeding- I think that if a woman is

physically able to breastfeed, there is no excuse not to. Giving your child

the very best for their health is more important than anything.

Sincerely-

Dawn

Joy,

Welcome to the list! I'm Dana, sahm to Philip, born 9/17/97. I'm not sure what

to tell you about getting her to eat from both sides. I made the mistake early

on of letting Philip eat from only one side at a sitting. I suppose that

wasn't really the mistake. That would be that I tended to favor the right side

and now I'm totally lopsided!! No matter how hard I try I can't seem to get

them both even!! : ) Trust me I'll be much more careful with my next! : )

good luck!

<< Hello--

My name is Joy and I am the mother of Ivy, who is 3 and Elly who is 2

months. I bf Ivy for 13 months and I plan to do the same with Elly. I had

every problem you can think of when starting out with Ivy--ie ceacking,

blistering, bleeding--the works--but I perservered and made it through. I

have hread that fair skinned people have more problem with this sort of

thing. Anyway--I figured that with the second baby I was home free--I had

already mastered positioning and latch on--wrong. This baby had also never

nursed before so I had to start over. Luckily, the problems with pain and

the like only lasted a bit over a week--nightmareish as that was. She is

now nursing fine---except---she will only nurse from one side at a

time--she won't empty both sides at one nursing. Thus--she is hungary again

shortly after feeding her. I have recently started taking a yoga class that

has 2 hours of childcare provided and would love to be able to really relax

and not worry that she was gonna be hungary at any second. She is only 2

months so I may have to wait till after she is eating solids (planning to

start that about 6 months old or so--but continue bf too). If anyone has

any ideas about how to get her to nurse from both sides at one

sitting--please let me know. Thanks --Joy in Asheville NC

Joy,

Welcome to the list. I am Wendi mom to Kaija 7yo and Zaid 16mo. Zaid didn't

nurse on both sides until after 3 months. He was just too sleepy. Now I can't

feed him enough. The good thing I can say about sleepy babies is they tend to

get on a schedule earlier than more awake babies. That is just my experience.

Good job on sticking with bfing even though it was rough for you. Once again

welcome.

Welcome to the list. I am jenn SAHM to Paige who is just about two months

old too:) there is lots of great info spread around this list.. hope you

like it as much as i do:)

As far as feeding from one side only at a time.. that is what paige has

done all this time (until now).... she eats every 2 1/2 to 3 hours at night

and anywhere from 1-2 hours in the daytime. Now within the past couple of

days .. she has been taking both sides at one or two of the feedings.. and

last night in the middle of the night was the very first time she took both

in the nighttime. this hasn't changed the frequency of her feedings

though.. she doesn't go any longer till next feeding than normal when she

has both. She is also GROWING really fast right now.. right before my

eyes.:) Hope this helps:)
