<< Hello Kym,

I'm new today too!

Welcome !!

Please try to find you & your baby a new pediatrician. You need someone you

can trust not only with your health (mental) but your baby's! You need to

feel safe, & be able to trust what they tell you.

Is this doctor an old person? or younger? Are they from Earth? LOL!

LOL... I agree completely!!

I'm a little upset...how can doctors advise women against nursing? Now days

they all know it's healthier.

It's very sad!! Doctors, especially pediatricians should be better educated

about breastfeeding!! There's just no excuse for the ignorance in my opinion!

: )

Please keep us posted & welcome to a nice group of ladies.

Welcome again!

Dana -Mommy to Philip ph 9/17/97

P.S. she sounds like she's growing like a weed!

My Mom had me worrying over my 1st and 2nd born Daughters weight all the

time & they are big!

Hi Stevie:

I'm Pam, mom to (8) and Conor (2), and I live in Rhode Island too. I

would avoid any gassy foods (broccoli, cabagge, onions,) and chocolate if it

seems to upset him. I have heard that garlic comes through as a sweet taste

in the breast milk. I tried to avoid the above foods for about 3 months and

then went back to a pretty regular diet. I love chocolate!!!

Stevie,

I am glad you introduced yourself and your tricky upcoming situation. It is so

hard for me to hear people such as you getting NO support to continue nursing

by pumping. It sounds like the place you work is truly not set up for this

kind of situation. Fear not!! I have a lot of confidence in these ladies. We

have all been in different situations and will try to come up with some

alternatives and solutions so that you can continue to do what is best for

your baby. How long are your shifts? What time of the day/night will you

work? Who will care for the baby in your absence? What kind of pump would

you use or do you have?

As far as foods to avoid...I think the general rule of thumb is that if it

makes you gassy at all eat it in very small quantities! Different babies will

be effected by different foods through Mommy. I read (probably on this very

list) that chocolate in and of itself is not all bad. That is to say that you

musn't avoid it alltogether while nursing. I am sure that chocolate in large

quantities would not be encouraged or tolerated by baby though. Things like

cabbage, beans and other obvious gas producers may upset baby's tummy. I am

sure you have heard of Mylicon drops. These work quite well for many babes.

Well, I am sure we will try to help support you by coming up with ideas. I

think if you provide answers to the above questions it will help too. Welcome!

Hey sis!!!!

I would try the broccoli again just to make sure. has had problems

with brussel sprouts. I keep eating them because he just gets a tiny bit

fussy. Last night he went down at 10 and was up at 4:30 and 8. How is the

big girl?

This is the best bunch of women. I have learned so much.

Hello

From: ST3PH3@... (Steph)

Hi.....tanks for the " pre-welcome " . I have been reading for a few

weeks..... & really enjoy all the info:) My name is Stevie & dh is Chet.

We live in Rhode Island & have 2 children. a is 29 months & my

newborn son is 3 weeks old(). I'm BFeeding him & hope to make it 6

months. I BF my DD & quit at 3 months. I thouroughly enjoyed it, but had

to stop b/c of work. I am a waitress, so it's VERY hard to get away to

pump. We are a seasonal restaurant & the summers are CRAZY!!! My boss is

a witch & didn't give me any kind of support. It's really hard to get

away to pump milk, & to find a place to do it. We have one bathroom for

the 200 employees we have in the summer,so to get in there for only 10

minutes is a problem, without people banging on the door. I can't do it

in my car...as I park about a mle away fom work in the summer. I go back

to work in May, & am really not able to figure out what to do. When I

went back to work after my DD I suffered big time from engorgement, &

the response I got from eveyone is you shold have known that you

would'nt be able to pump. Anyway...that's my situation...so any advice

would be great. I also have a Q--Are there any foods that I shold

absolutely avoid when nursing?? was VERY gassy last night.... & I had

a small bit of broccolli with a garlic sauce. Also is chocolate bad????

That is a big weakness of mine. Sorry so long & look forward to getting

to know everyone...when the kids permit. They are the bosses:)

Cows milk made my Son fuss for a couple hours each night around 5:00, I had

put 1/2 cup of 2% on my morning cereal.

As soon as I noticed the connection I stopped using it and he stopped

getting fussy.

I know a baby that fussed every time her mom ate garlic pizza...

Go Cheryl. I probably saw you Saturday. I was there too. My surgery is

scheduled for Thursday, 25 Mar. You've already taken a big step by this

being Day 2 of your diet. The hardest and biggest step is the first one.

You've made that one so the only way to go is down (weight wise). Health

wise, the only way to go is up. Stay tough. You can do it.

Cheryl,

Exactly what plan are you following for your weight loss with the juices and

fruits. I was thinking about trying to do that also, but I have no idea how

to start or plan it out.

Thanks,

Cheryl,

What diet are you following for your weight loss prior to surgery?

I know of another patient of

Dr. Rutledge's that had terrific results following his post-op plan

that is shown on his web site.

Good luck. Kathy

Liz,

I just mainly ignore them, but with my daughter I did bite or pinch her back

only once or twice after a lot of discussing it. It really made an impression

on her. I have also spanked her but only for hitting. I gave her a not so hard

swat on the bottom and when she reacted I asked how it felt to be hit. She

didn't like it and we agreed not to hit each other. She was not a toddler and

she had hit me in my pregnant belly so I had to react. It worked for her but I

don't think it will for my son's personality. He would be either traumatized or

think it was funny. Both of which would not help. I think each child needs

different discipline.

Re: Hello

Hi Wendi

It seems that your boy sounds very like Selina, she does exactly that.

Again I feel its her beginning to try to assert her own personality ans also

she seems very bright and I often think she thinks faster than her body can

act and she gets frustrated. She has hit me a few times and my instinct has

been not to react or make a fuss and ignore it, a lot of people ie family

have said to hit her back and I feel this is exactly the wrong thing to do

as all that will teach her is that the bigger you are the harder you can hit

and I think thats the perfect recipe to create a bully.

She definately doesn't like it when I ignore her(when she's misbehaving) and

will quickly stop and run over for a cuddle or a little feed.

I must admit to being lucky in that these episodes are infrequent as for 90%

of the time she's absolutely delightful.... which I always put down (when

ever anyone compliments me on her) to breast feeding!

Very true I don't think there can ever be hard and fast rules as all

children are different .I think we just have to do the best we can.

Best wishes
