In every state of the Union, chiropractors are now considered primary

medical care providers. They may or may not be covered by insurance, but

you can choose them if you like. You will find that many/most/nearly

all...of them are supportive of breastfeeding. Just a plug.

Welcome Kym. I am glad to hear you stuck with it. I can't believe a ped

wouldn't support breast feeding. My son is 5 1/2 months and is doing great, I

have been to a couple of peds and they all say that he is a perfect example of

breast feeding. I know you will find a lot of support here.

Welcome to the list and Bart. I understand how hard the first month can

be, serveral times I just wanted to quit, but something told me inside to

continue. I am so glad I did, I have a healthy boy and I really enjoy nursing

him. It has made us closer, and it helps when all he does is say da da da da

da, he just started that a week ago. I can't wait for ma ma ma =o)

My son is 6 months now. I know what you mean. Some times he will sleep all

night long, but those nights my body isn't used to it so I wake up anyway. I

go to bed around 9 and I take my husband to work at 7. So I am majorly tired

all the time.

Kym: I am in the same boat as you in that I don't have any family near

me that has breastfed. Heck my SIL in Indy is the only person in my

family that breastfed. I live in SC>

I do have the support of my Ped. Thank God. She is a wonderful woman.

I am glad that you have stuck to your guns about b/f. Your Ped

shouldn't be telling you how to feed your obviously thriving baby.

California has/had more than 50% of all the chiropractors in the country.

Practice seems to be the same in either California or Utah but Utah was a

giant pain to get liscensed. I'm glad we don't have to do it again! Neil

is 45 1/2. He didn't return to school until we had been married a few

years, in fact, I had just conceived Chani (our 2nd) the same month he

decided to become a chiropractor. Neil went to Cleveland Chiropractic in

Kansas City, Missouri.

Hello Kym,

I'm new today too!

Please try to find you & your baby a new pediatrician. You need someone you

can trust not only with your health (mental) but your baby's! You need to

feel safe, & be able to trust what they tell you.

Is this doctor an old person? or younger? Are they from Earth? LOL!

I'm a little upset...how can doctors advise women against nursing? Now days

they all know it's healthier.

Please keep us posted & welcome to a nice group of ladies.

P.S. she sounds like she's growing like a weed!

My Mom had me worrying over my 1st and 2nd born Daughters weight all the

time & they are big!

Hi Kym!! I am a 27 yr old mom too! Married for 7-1\2 yrs. I have four

little ones. I must congratulate you on making it through to this point

with little to no help!! I know how hard it can be!! I cannot imagine

anyone telling you that a 17 lb 3 mo old was not totally great!!! I am so

impressed. We are happy to have you here and help out when you need us,

support you when you catch flack for your decisions you have made.

Hello Cherie,

Are you a chiropractor? People can choose them if they like....but in Oregon

a lot of insurance companies don't cover it. Blue Cross does depending on

which group you're a member of & some others. Auto insurance, worker's comp

only pays for 12 treatments (within 30 days) In fact each and every year

Medicare for one, invents more " rules & regulations " that we the insurance

billers have to abide by......making it more and more difficult to get

reimbursed.

My Husband is a chiropractor...and I wish he had a different

profession....he's a great doctor.

I'd better get off of my soapbox )

Another great choice for breastfeeding support is Midwives...or a

Naturopathic physician....

When was 6 months old....I was so tired...I just kept telling myself 6

more months then I can sleep through the night. It just always seemed to get

better. Sometimes he goes on growing spells and nurses all the time (it

seems like it)

Now he is almost 2 & I'm still nursing him.....He has never been sick ,or

been to a doctor )

Unless you want to count the 6 week check up by the Midwives.

Mom of Destiny almost 20 years , Chelsea 16 years and Son, almost 2

years old....

Neat!

I hear just what you're saying...and it's true!

The only reason it's hard where we live is because it's a very poor

community....and small.

We pay the bills and that's it...

I have insurance myself BC/BS and we pay our Midwives & Naturopath cash.

My Husband has a very kind & giving soul...

He doesn't charge people that can't afford it & he writes off the portion

the insurance doesn't pay if the person is having money problems.

That's my only real complaint. I have Never slept through the night since

was born almost 2 years ago!

Once I slept until 4:00 A.M....that was when he was 3-4 months old.

I would pay for sleep, LOL!

He graduated in 1984, He's 43. Did your Husband go to Western States?

How is Utah for chiropractic? California seems like it would have a ton of

them.

Maybe they know each other, LOL!

I wish we could move to a state where we could afford to do more good will &

still make ends meet....that would be so nice!.....a dream come true!

not quite 17

lbs at her 8 mo visit... She was exclusively breastfed until about 6 1/2-7

months...

I knew California had a lot of chiropractors! I didn't realize it was that

high.

It would be interesting to check out all the states & their requirements.

Oregon has had too many things changed. I wonder about New Mexico?

It's pretty funny our office is next to the only liqueur store in the area &

a lot of our " non-payers " can afford

drink & cigarettes. It's just a sad part of our community....

...still dreaming of a different location )

I sure wish you lived here in Colorado. My 11 year old son could use a good

Chiropractor. He broke his sacrilliac when he was 6. He still has problems

on and off with it. I would love to take him to see Neil. I'm going to

call around and see what the cost is, if they accept our ins, etc. Adam

doesn't want to go. But I think after he gets aligned, he'll love it.

(wanted to know if you have any plans to move close to me?)

My seven year old has some back problems and has gone to a chiropractor. We go

to a woman near us. She has only gone once. It really seemed to help, but she

didn't like some of the things that happened. We have talked a lot since the

first visit and now she is willing to go back. She did feel a lot better after.

Just assure him that you will be with him and that after he can tell you what he

liked and didn't. That way on the 2nd visit you can let the chiro know what

worked and what didn't. If your son feels like he has a say in what happens to

him and knows you will stick up for him the experience should be very positive

and helpful. Good luck. Talk to people in your area to get a recommendation

for a good one.
