Guest guest
Yuppers, that was happening to me too. My pre-meal was high, I'd dose extra, two hour post was down, then next pre-meal I was high again. I increased my lantus over the past two days and now my basal is cool. Regards, Re: your blood sugar results Man, I am just running high today. I think I might put my basal rates up, since my readings so far are very stable but just running too high in general. I was 9.7 or 175 this morning and took 5.45 units to cover breakfast and correct. I also changed my infusion set. Two hours later I was 11.2 or 202 and gave myself 1.5 units to correct. Two hours after that I was 9.8 or 176 and since I had almost no insulin on board my correction was 1.35 units. Now, an hour later my pre-lunch reading is 10.5 or 189. I have had nothing to eat since breakfast so it's frustrating that corrections aren't doing much! I don't think it's my pump site because I'd be a heck of a lot higher if I wasn't gettting any insulin at all. For lunch I'm having a sandwich, soem strawberries, and some veggies and dip for a total of 35 grams of carbs, and to cover those carbs and correct my blood sugar I'll take 5.0 units of insulin. Guest guest
So you have that cereal weakness too eh? My favorite is cinnamon toast crunch! I would dose 10 units of humalog to intentionally have a 2 hour post at or around 80 then eat like 4 glucose to prevent me from bottoming out. That worked most times, however, the problem? I got fat cuz I was always eating food/sugar/whatever from low sugars! Regards, Re: your blood sugar results Hi, I started this but have been out of the gaim for a couple of days due to a dead soundcard. Now up and running again, so ready to play! Pre Breakfast 7.2 (130) a little high for my liking. Breakfast is serial, something I probably should avoid, but still have it once or twice a week. It tends to spike me then leave me low. Estimated at 30 grams of carbs, 7 units of inculin and 25 minutes of bolus time, since serial does tend to spike me quite bad. Cheers, Brett. Then I took a 40 gram snack of sesame sticks and two bowls of fruit around 40 grams of carbs, then dosed 15 units of Humalog. Next will be suppertime bs test. Guest guest
I usually like to eat raisin bran cereal for breakfast with a half cup of whole milk and a couple of cups of black coffee. I guess-estimate that my bowl of cereal and milk is around 50 grams of carbs. Guest guest
Ok dudes, I did terrible for dinner. Absolutely terrible! I had 1 slice of pizza and not 1, not 2, but three bowls of cereal! Let me say though that the bowls of cereal were in a baby bowl, what I feed my 2 year old son out of, so probably like 1.5 bowls for most. To top it all off, I had a few bites of chocolate as well. My pre-dinner was 65, 3.6, so perhaps that contributed to my urge to eat carbos. But I know better. I should have fought it! I've dosed 7 units for the pizza and 14 units for the cereal/chocolate totaling 21 units of humalog. Listen, for a type 1, that is insane! Large numbers, large mistakes, small numbers, small mistakes. Tomorrow is a new day though. I gotta get up, dust off, and press on back to what I know works for me. Seems like 1 step forward, two steps back! Guest guest
Well, at lunch I was 10.5 or 189 and two hours later I was 7.6 or 137. I had a latte and a Thins chocolate bar which was 30 grams of cabrs in total, and bolused 3.0 units to cover it. Just now, three hours later, I'm about to leave campus and tested at 3.9 or 68. I had about 8 grams of Skittles which should get me back up around my target of 6.0. We ended up going for an unscheduled walk during one of my classes which is probably why I went a bit low. Now I am headed home and should be having dinner in about two hours, so will update then. Jen
Guest guest
Okay, I'll play for a little bit! Guest guest
Here are my 2 evening readings, prior to going to bed. I do 2 readings because my overnight readings are my main problem. To help me get set just right for overnight, I try to do 2 evening readings, to see if it's rising, dropping, or holding steady. 9:45 PM: 86; several ounces of grape juice, and 2 Ritz crackers (no peanut butter since I only want a few quick acting carbs to hold it here, or preferably, take it up slightly). *Note: The following bedtime snack is not recommended for all diabetics. This quite unorthodox snack is the result of many years of testing and modifying this snack). 10:40 PM: 98; bedtime snack of small bowl of Lucky Charms cereal and handful of dry roasted peanuts. Yes, Lucky Charms! I've tried healthy cereals like Wheat chex and Cheerios, but for some crazy reason, Lucky Charms works. Oh, and I take 9 units of Lantus at this time as well. I am considering going with a split dose, since one of my overnight issues is my tendency to drop. Dave A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Guest guest
Of course, you still have to be creful about the amount you eat because you will gain weight even if your BG is good with the extra insulin. Re: your blood sugar results The whole idea behind carbohydrate conting and dosing insulin in proportion to the carbs eaten is that someoen with diabetes (type 1, at least) can eat anything they want to as long as they take the appropriate amount of insulin. I don't know many medical professionals these days who *don't* say that diabetics can eat a balanced diet of everything, including candy or junk food every once in a while. It's a bit different for a type 21 diabetic taking only medication or controlling hteir blood sugar through only diet and exercise, but for type 1s cabrohydate counting has overtaken the old " no candy " mentality. Guest guest
Hi, Mid norning snack was a cookie with 12 grams of carbs, no insulin used. Pre lunch was 4.9 (88). A tuner and Cheese sandwich and a snack bar for lunch, 32 carbs, so 6 units. Post lunch 6.1, (109). This is a great way to keep motivated, so far a good day, wish they could all be this good! Guest guest
, If you want cereal, I jjust looked on the internet for Special K chip cereal which has 10 grams of protein and only 9 grams of carbs with 1/2 cup low fat milk. Maybe that would curb your cravings. I have not tried this cereal, but it sounds good.s Re: your blood sugar results Thanks but I fell off again this evening! I ate one bowl of cereal and am flat out pissed off with myself! This is ridiculous... I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to fight carbo cravings in the evenings? I do great all day, no problems, but as soon as evening sets in it is like a vampire bat comes and sits on my shoulder and keeps whispering to me " carbo, think sugar, carbo, think sugar " ...
