Welcome to the group!! I am a diabetic too and have also been put on the diet

by my Dr. I have been on it since the end May and have done great!! I was

diagnosed with diabetes in 96 and since had gotten preg and was put on

injections 2 times a day. after the baby I was kinda on a little honeymoon

period, thats what my Dr called it, My sugars were great for about 6 months.

then all of a suddan they started going up and he put me on this diet. Since

then I am off all meds and have consistant sugars of 80-110. I only have to

lose 32 more pounds to reach my goal, so your sugar might not come down as

fast as mine, but it will and you will feel wonderful!!

Good Luck

Hugs,

Penny

Hi. My name is and I am on Day 4 of the Induction Diet. I am a

diabetic and have over 100 lb to get rid of. This plan is totally

opposite what I have been taught in the past and that is why I need lots

of support. I am reading the book and it all makes sense to me. My

endocrinologist suggested this diet because she has had so much success

with her other diabetic patients and has been on it herself.

Thanks to all for your kind welcome! I can't wait to get going on this

thing!

About 11 years ago I lost 55 lbs in 9 weeks doing Diet Centers. It was sort

of a modified low-carb diet and it was really successful for me. The problem

is, Diet Centers is a difficult way of life as you are really limited to the

types of proteins you can eat. It seems to me that Atkins is much more

adaptable to normal living. After loosing 55 lbs, I kept it all off for 5

years. Then life got in the way and I gained it back at 5-7 lbs a year. Now

I am here....

Are there any Low-Carb Masters out there who have been doing this for a

while??

Hi Sue,

I am amazed by your success (310/264!!!). have you done it all on Atkins?

How long has it taken? How tall are you? It is successes like this that

help get me motivated, and I hear about them all the time with Atkins.

I'll bet Wilmington is a beautiful area....

Gail, I was tired and could sleep 12 hours and still be tired. My mom had

thyroid problems and so I thought at 39, maybe I did also. They did a

blood test and my sugars were 270. The Dr. called me in for another

(fasting) test and it was 217, so naturally they wanted to see me and take

care of this diabetes. My Dr. recommended this diet for me and also said

if I got my weight down, I might be able to be classed as non-diabetic on

the insurance records. So that is my goal. I feel much better since I was

diagnosed and am on the right tract with my weight loss.

Hi Shadcat

Thank you for the welcome. I had a good day today. I've been trying recipes

from the Protein Power book and the Low Carb Cookbook by Fran McCullough and

today I found one I love. I made the Summer Squash recipe (I have tons of

squash and basil in my garden) and added some grilled chicken and 5 Brothers

sauce and it was delicious. I think I'll be using all my squash this year.

Wishing you the best,

Bev

Hello, Sue!

Most people do not want to hear this but I am not following this WOL to lose

weight. I simply like the way I feel and the way my body is shaping up while

eating this way. I am 40 years old and am very physically active. I was eating

the high carb-low fat way for YEARS and though I was not overweight, my body was

NOT what I wanted it to be even with alot of walking/weight training. This WOE

really seems to be changing that although it is VERY hard to get used to the

idea of eating alot of fat. I AM attempting to get my husband to follow this

diet as he has about 40+ lbs to lose and am having a SMALL amount of luck but

still having to work on him. I love to read the tips and hints about different

products and snacks and especially the recipies - need more vegetable recipies

(they are hard to come by) and well as sweets. I am part of another list and

have had trouble posting to that list. I have replied two different times to

certain subjects and neither of my posts have shown up. I guess that i am doing

it wrong. Hope this will get to you.

Hi Sue and the list.

My name is Harvey and I am now starting the Atkins Way of Life. I am forty-two

and I need to loose fifty pounds. I remember looking at Atkins about two years

ago, along with protien power and other low carb

diets. I liked the premise of it, but I just let it go by so I kept the extra

fifty pounds for a couple of extra years. Now it is time to take off the weight

and I know how important it is to communicate with

likeminded people.

Bye for now

Harvey.

Hi everyone. My name is I'm 30 soon to be 31 and i have about 200 pounds

to lose. boy that was hard. *breathe* i never really tell anyone how fat i am

cuz i don't want to know. but its time to get

outta myself and feel better. I have been doing atkins for about 2 weeks now

again. i started back about 3 months ago i think but i went off the deep end :)

for a bit but now i am back and i don't think of

this as a diet any more though i do hope i keep losing weight as i need to as

you will all soon learn :) but I know i feel a thousand times better when i eat

this way. It does help me in my weight loss. it

makes me feel like i have a way to deal with it now more than i ever did before.

i think i am getting more comfortable with the way of eating in that i am not

that all or nothing person i was. i can allow

myself to have the strawberries and cream and not even want the shortcake part

.... i can allow myself to have veggies more than lettuce. Before i didn't and i

think that is partially why when i went nutty i

fell off track i was tired of protien and lettuce :) i am learning to cook

*gasp* at 30 you would think i would have a handle on that but i never really

have except for special once a decade thing :)

the reason i choose atkin's diet is because i have PCOS and i have a

predisposition for insulin resistance and diabetes. I have been told my doc a

few days ago its now or never as far as my health goes. He is

asking me to consider the minigastric bypass. (any thoughts would be

appreciated on that as well) i honestly would rather take my chance skydiving

without a parachute. :\

So its a day at a time for me and low carb for now. :) i hope everyone is

having a great day. I am off to eat my late lunch.

have a great day,

diana

P.S. i look forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome to the group. You are taking a step in the right direction by

joining here. I have gotten lots of great ideas and some good recipes. I

don't do a lot of cooking yet for Atkins, because since I've only been on

Induction of a week, I am happy with grilling meats and eating salads with

chicken, shrimp or steak. Aslo, we love Crab with real butter and had it

twice last week! My DH is doing Atkins as well. I am 45 years old and live

in Longmont (Boulder) Colorado.

I don't know anything about the surgery you mention, nor do I know what PCOS

stands for, but I certainly think I would agree with what you seem to be

saying about the surgery. That would be a last ditch effort after giving

diet a devoted effort!

Good luck! I look forward to seeing your progress.

I am not sure what a mini by pass is but ,, I have heard some

horror stories about stomach stapleing or reduction.. This has caused more

than one death from malabsorbtion. Be careful..
