HI Mike:

While Avandia helps somewhat my test results are still all over the place

and I can't figure out what the cause for this is. While I don't expect

perfection I sure would appreciate a bit more stability here.

Where can I write, or phone, or email about getting a poodle for a guide

dog? I had a black lab for 12 years, and I loved her. It broke my heart

when I had to put her to sleep. But there was no other choice.

If I was as sure of God as I am about the ground beneath my feet, how often

would I think of God?

Do your sugars bounce around arbitrarily-or go up at certain times of the

There are couple of schools that are using poodles or poodle/Lab mixes. I

know Guide Dogs of America does and I think Pilot Dogs too.

Hi :

My sugars seem to bounce around without pattern, rhyme or reason. In fact,

I've begun to chart what I eat along with my results and there is no rhyme

or reason to what is going on. I can eat a slice of bread, for example,

today and my sugar will stay in the eighties. Next week I can eat a slice of

bread, same brand, same whole wheat, and my sugar climbs above 120. I do my

best to keep my carbs to thirty to forty grams per day and even that is

enough to send my sugar levels high.

When I first started taking Avandia I had to watch for low sugar readings. I

actually went down to a 73 once. What I am noticing is that once my body

adjusts to the current dose my sugar readings start becoming erratic again.

Then, when the dose is changed I stabilize for a few days and then I start

bouncing around again when I test.

I spoke with a friend this evening who is also Diabetic and she seems to

think that the Avandia is working but that I may have to add another

medication.

I am glad to hear that you have begun charting, since this is the best way

to not only spot a problem, but to take note as to why this is happening;

the problem of course. Charting your carb intake, medication dosage, time,

activity level, infections, other drugs, menstrual cycle, and most any other

thing you would wish to take note of is a good start on pinpointing the

problem and its process and often its resolution. It can show the way to

stop those wild rebound effects, once the problem has been pinpointed.

A person's low bs reading may havedifferent effects on the individual. I

believe, officially, one is not in danger of a low blood sugar reaction

until the bs goes below 70, but this may vary from person to person. I do

not have a low blood sugar reaction until my bs goes below 65, and the

lowest one I have had so far is a bs of 42. Do you have a low blood sugar

reaction at a bs of 73?

I am talking here about a real, not imagined low blood sugar reaction.

Always confirm a low reaction with a blood glucose monitor reading, whether

it is real or imagined.

Low blood sugar reaction presents itself as irritability, difficulty

focusing thinking, judgment errors, feeling hot and sweaty, incoordination,

difficulty walking, mood swings, heart palpitations and probably some other

symptoms I cannot thing of at the present. My wife often grabs the glucose

meter and tells me to stick out my finger for a prick, since I am bound to

be having a low sugar reaction, when I become argumentative and irritable.

Unfortunately, when I finally do acquiesce, I find she is right most of the

time.

Marriage is a wonderful thing. Otherwise all those husbands and wives would

have to argue with total strangers.<smile, grin>

I agree with your friend. It sounds like you need another med. It is not

unusual for a type 2 diabetic to be on more than none med.-and it seems to

help!

I concur with your friend's advice. The second med should act

differently than avandia.

Hi Harry:

I start becoming moody and irritable these days right around seventy. I get

light headed and feel pretty drunk, too, at that reading and don't hesitate

to either grab my meter or get Bob to grab the Asensia and test my blood.

when I was first diagnosed a reading in the eighties felt very much like a

reading in the seventies does now so I definitely test before doing anything

like grabbing glucose tabs or food.

I test before taking my Avandia, too, and if my sugar is below eighty I make

sure to eat something and then take the medication.

Carbs will send my sugar above normal in a heartbeat. I don't want to

eliminate carbs from my diet altogether and sure hope to find a solution

soon that will keep my tummy full, my excess body fat dwindling and my sugar

reading more consistent because I sure don't like how I feel when my sugar

is low and don't want it to be high either.

Hi :

with as drunk as I feel right now I would say that something needs to be

done. I had a reading a bit ago of 71 and while I am not panicked yet and am

getting dinner on the table I do think another call into the nurse

practitioner is warranted and shall call in the morning.
