That is probably good advice for most people, , but I don't have any

trouble using my thumb. I don't usually use the index fingers for that

reason.

Re: new member,

,

I was given this advice by my diabetic nurse, not to use the index finger or

thumb to test your own blood, being that both of these have most of your

sensory nerve endings in the tips of your fingers.

Me, too Harry.

I use insulin injections to handle carbs consumed. When I dose for net

carbs my bs runs extremely high. When I dose for total carbs I am right on.

But, Becky You really must give yourself a pat on the back just for losing!

So many people cannot (or will not) do that.

Re: new member,

Thanks for the encouragement, Harry. One day I hope to be able to brag that

I've lost fifty or a hundred pounds, but time will tell.

, what do you do for work since you've lost your site?

I've been in radio for 26 years in Colorado Springs, Co. But since my nasty

divorce, I've relocated to New Brighton, PA and am starting all over. The

radio station begged me to stay, but with only weekends for the past 4 years

and the promise of no more hours, I had to let the job go. I really loved

it. But am trying to find employment here.

My sugar this mornin' was 107. My sweety and I were delighted.

Becky, you will be able to. it all comes off a little at a time, of course.

I have lost a lot of weight since last summer when I was diagnosed. It

wasn't that hard, and I still have some more but it will happen if I am

good. Sometimes I hit a platau of weight loss, and lately I have been

eating too much sometimes. It is just a matter of staying on course, and I

know that if I get too far off course and eat like the old days all those

awful things would happen and my weight will come back. Well, I don't want

that and I'm sure you don't either. But just lose the weight and give

yourself time, and don't starve yourself to do it, you don't have to. Eat

right but don't go really hungry. I wish you the best with your weight

loss.

Vicki

" Do not love the world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the

world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers

only

a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride

in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but they

are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything

that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. "

Well Mike, what can I say?

I can sympathise with you and Harry in that when I want ice cream I really

want ice cream.

It is the same with alcohol for me. However, I can be perfectly hapy with an

occasional beer or glass of very dry wine.

Tell you what, if you could get some of the Braums low carb ice cream you

could have 4 cups and only use up 24 carbs. Now, honestly, 4 cups should

keep even you and Harry happy....

Dear Mike, There is sugarfree icecream and it is pretty good. As far as

solta pop, I still drik some pop, but only if it is diet. My real problem

is controlling my eating habbit. Right now my bloodsugar readings are

not where I want them to be, but I have to take the blame for that. My

doctor tells me I need to loose weight and that has been a struggle for me.

HI Mike:

You are right and I know that just because my grandmother was Type 1 doesn't

mean anything. I'm curious, more than anything and have decided that no two

professionals are going to agree. So long as I get the help that I need to

control my sugar levels I won't complain. I'm doing my part and am glad that

the Avandia is helping to keep everything to more normal levels.

Hi Mike:

My hair and skin dried out when my thyroid decided that it didn't want to

work properly a number of years ago. so, when I noticed a small rash about a

year and a half ago I didn't think too much of it. the funny thing is that

I've noticed when my sugar levels are in the eighties that rash disappears,

making me think that I have had Diabetes for longer than I realized. Had I

not had routine bloodwork done I wonder when I might have found out that

there was a problem.

by the time that I was diagnosed I was consuming liquids at a higher rate

than was normal and I could tell you where every public restroom was in

every place that I frequent.

While the Avandia is helping me to better control my sugar along with the

diet and exercise that I am doing, my levels still fluctuate more than I

would like for them to do and there doesn't seem to be any concrete reason

for this that I can find.

this was why I asked you how they determined that you are Type 1, and not

the more common Type 2.

Thanks for the advice, Vicki. I lose about a pound a week and that is fine

with me.

I thought that I was going to starve to death when I first started this diet

but have since learned what I can and can't snack on and not send my sugar

level to the moon.

I was on a plateau for about four weeks and was sure glad when I started

losing once again.

Congratulations on your own weight loss and keep up the good work.

Becky,

From another email I would comment that your weight loss of about a pound a

week is a very sensible amount. That is an amount which should stay gone.

Sometimes rapid weight loss only comes back with a vengeance.. (LOL)

The slower loss seems to have a much better chance of staying elsewhere.

,

Most type 2 diabvetics have a problem with weight-and eating less. Just

start with eating 3/4 of what you would normally eat and when you get used

to that, cut it down some more. This is especially true of carbohydrate

foods. If you like, I can send the wonderful carb counting record that one

of our other members put together. Just send your regular e-mail address.

A true finding of your C reactive protein will tell you how much insulin is

in your body. Type 1 diabetic have none and type 2 may have some-and

sometimes evn more than what is normal.

Re: new member,

Beckie:

Ah ... you are on avandia. If it helps you, you are almost certainly a

Type 2 as (if I recall correctly) avandia works by lowering your insulin

resistance. If you are a Type 1, you produce very little (if any)

insulin (at least a majority of the time) so insulin resistance isn't a

factor except insofar as it increases (sometimes dramatically) the

amount of insulin you'd have to inject in order to control your bG. Type

2's (at least in the early stage of the disease -- Harry has gone well

beyond this) still produce some insulin and the problem may be its

ineffectiveness; hence, avandia.

Er, um, isn't it a C-peptide test? I thought the CRP had to do with

heart problems and/or general inflamation. And meds can skew the

reading.

Becky this might be a bit off topic, but how does Cassedy your poodle do as

a guide dog? I want to get another doggy, and a poodle sounds like a good

breed for a guide dog.

If I was as sure of God as I am about the ground beneath my feet, how often

would I think of God?
