Hi, ...welcome to the list...there are other sweeteners that don't use

aspartane that are widely available. Splenda is one. Vicki

<<

To make my situation all the more complicated, I'm allergic to Aspartame

(Nutrasweet), so my diet is really limited. (I get nasty migranes from

aspartame.)

Anyway, hello and I look forward to talking with all of you.

Hello heather8875@... ( McLaughlin),

In reference to your comment:

è To make my situation all the more complicated, I'm

è allergic to Aspartame (Nutrasweet), so my diet is

è really limited.

Hmmm what are you eating now?

How about splenda for sweetner?

I'm 43, diag in 11/2000, was on glucophage for a bit, but now on no

medications for diabetes, and no supplements.

I controling my blood sugars with diet and mild exercise.

I've lost about 35- 40 lbs total since diag.

IWhen diag i was at about 300 bs levels....

Put on 1500 cal ADA diet, bs levels dropped to about 240 and stayed there.

and i gained 23 lbs.

after 2 mths, Put on Glucophage 1000mg a day and the levels dropped to the

180 - 200 range.

Went on low carb diet 50 grams or so of carbs a day, more like 30 grams to

start out.

bs levels dropped to a fasting of 130 and an average of 120 with a range of

90 - 130

Went off glucophage but maintained the low carb diet ~ 50 g a day of carbs.

bs fasting is about 140 average 120, range of 90 - 140.

>Have you tried Splenda?

No, but I'm afraid to try any other fake-sugars. The headaches are too much

to deal with (a single piece of gum with aspartame can give me a 3-day

migrane), so the last thing I want to do is experiment.

I'll keep that in mind though. Thanks.

, splenda was one of the many products I have tried. And it gave me a

real bad headache just like the rest of them did. Sorry!

Thanks, Vicki.

About the other sweeteners... I'm hesitant to try other sweeteners because

of the possible side-effects. I can't stand the migranes, so I'm pretty

afraid to try the other fake ones. I have done some research and they're

all (except saccharine) listed as being toxic to some people, so it's really

not worth the risk for me. (A three-day migrane from a lousy piece of gum

is enough to scare me away for good.)

Hello

>put me on insulin.

insulin is no big deal. I grew up with a sister that was Type 1 for 45+ years

now and swore I would never stick myself but when the time came once I got past

the first one it was easy

>allergic to Aspartame

me too only it make me high then I get the headache and an upset stomach.

Splenda is not bad and so far I haven't reacted to it but just cutting back will

make a big difference. watching carbs and fats are just as important.

I'm wondering how long you tried the Glucophage, and what dose you

started on? Most people have to be started real slow (250mg or so) and

I noted in several other posts that folks have recommended Splenda to

you as another sweetener, and you replied that you can't use " fake

sugar " without problems.

Splenda is not " fake sugar " , it's actually real sugar with a molecule

removed. Many who can't use Aspartame have no problems at all with

Splenda. It would be a shame if you denied yourself a solution.

>Hmmm what are you eating now?

Well, considering I am doing everything right and my sugars are not

changing, I don't have much choice... For example, I get tired of drinking

water all the time, so I add milk or fruit juice, but they both add so many

carbs.

>How about splenda for sweetner?

I've done some research on Splenda and it is listed with

Nutrasweet/Aspartame as one that is toxic to some people, so I am not

willing to try it. (I get migranes from the aspartame, and I will NOT

intentionally subject myself to that if I can help it.)

I have a meeting with a dietician/nurse in the near future... Maybe I'll get

some ideas there.
