Re: sleep problems

Hi /Kim

just to chime in here, Archie (five in January) has very similar sleep

problems: he now generally wakes around 1 am for a drink and a tuck-in, and

then wakes again at around 4-5 am, often for an hour or two, when he likes

to jump about, kick his legs, look out of the window, talk, etc. etc (all in

our room, not his room!). He has never been a particularly good sleeper

(generally used to wake 2/3 times a night for drinks/company - say for 10

minutes at a time)- but this waking " ready for the day " at 4-5 am has been

noticeable since he started mornings in reception class in mid-September. We

are hoping that his sleep will even out once he starts going to school

fulltime - this week - but I think it may take a good while.

I'm afraid I don't have any tips for getting them back to sleep - Archie

sometimes will settle back off to sleep if he comes into our bed, but quite

often he just keeps us all awake instead - which makes for some pretty

grumpy parents. I find turning a light on is definitely counter-productive,

as he then thinks we are all going to get up.

I comfort myself with the thought that at least now when he wakes in the

night he generally doesn't cry and fuss - he's not scared of unhappy, he's

just raring to go!

This just sounds like not enough HC. When are you taking it?

Phosphorylated serine (Seriphos) is used to lower high cortisol

levels. If you are taking HC to increase your levels up to normal I am

not sure that is a product that you need to take. Have you tried

raising your HC? Or Melatonin?

Hi ,

Me too, though I have experienced excellent energy results at times,

sleeping is an issue with waking up early and often...I have not tried

(Seriphos) as my morning cortisol was really low before starting on HC.

It seems counter productive, but I really dont know much about it. let

me know what you find out or if you try it ;)

It is very unlikely this will work for you. First HC os only in your body 4

hours, then it is gone. Going longer than 4 hours bwtween doses is going to

leave your body FLAT out of cortisol. Do you wake up at 10AM? When you take HC

it WILL lower your ACTH and then first thing in the morning, even if oyu

previously had high cortisol, you will now need some as this is the time of day

you need th emost cortisol.. aroiuns 8 am is a natural time for peak. Taking 2.5

at 8PM is insuiring you will run out in the night. This is just enough to lower

your night time ACTH and you will wake up a couple hours after FINALLY

struggling to sleep to find yourself shaky and weak.

,

I'm using phosphorylated serine at night too. Take mine about 9PM. Still wake

up around 3AM...maybe as late as 4AM. But I am getting better sleep...even

dreaming. Additionally I'm taking 1/2 tsp of sea salt around 8PM. Try

that...it really helps relax me!

Pardon me for butting in...I forgot to say that my saliva test showed depressed

cortisol during the day, but elevated levels at 11PM. And I'm also eating after

dinner now to keep my blood sugar level. Low blood sugar = high cortisol. Are

you hypoglycemic, or have low blood sugar, insulin resistant maybe???

Hi Val,

I'm jumpin' in on somebody else's post but I was confused about >>Taking

bed time dose, as it's when I go to sleep most nights.

I'm up about 5 a.m. and start h.c. dosing about 6 a.m. (then 10 a.m. and

2 p.m., then before bed) Am I all wrong here?

Your situation is different. If you go to bed at 8PM it is fine to take it then,

but from his post he didn't start HC till 10AM so I am assuming 8PM is nOT his

bedtime..

Val:

Could you please explain why you think I need more? For Example, I'm

not sure I need any in the morning, as I never have trouble getting

up. I'm usually wide awake by 6:30, if not earlier. I guess I need to

understand the circadian cycle, and how it pertains to sleep. Are you

saying that getting levels up higher during the day will let them

drop lower at night, allowing better sleep? Or don't we want to have

really low levels at night? It seem like a dose at bedtime would

energize, not relax.

Thanks much,

-confused
