Guest guest
hi sandy mine was 2 cm but way back and could not easily be felt. thank god i gained all that weight to know something was wrong...a great endo/gyne can detect the abnormal easily. mine did this year.... 2 years ago, after 2 years of back pain, i finally went to the doctors and had an x-ray which showed nothing and then MRI which not only showed " lots of arthritis but possible thyroid cancel " . my GP ordered a thyroid scan and they said 3 nodules, but " not to worry " . if i knew what i know now, i probably myself would have requested a biopsy " just to be sure " . it ended up in the lymph nodes now.... thanks renata

Guest guest
No harm in trying. Just take the calories from his regular meals....or increase calories overall. We tried it with Jake sort of....it was hard to do because we would need to wake him to eat, and then try to get him back down. I don't especially think it would help the late morning seizures though. I would try that over depakote first. Guest guest
Yugoslav87 Synthroid has not been taking off the market. Synthroid is and will continue to be the leader in thyroid hormone manufacturing. There are about 8 million persons relying on this medication everyday and this well known form of levo-thyroxine has been in the market for over 50 years. Patients and doctors depend on Synthroid every day! The FDA has not taken Synthroid off the market. Synthroid is here to stay. The manufacturer of Synthroid, Knoll, applied for a variance on the new law that required Synthroid to be presented again to the FDA as a new drug because of its extended use for so many years. Earlier this year the FDA said " No " , and Knoll had to prepare again all the studies and data necessary to present Synthroid as a new drug. Last month the new owner of Knoll, Abbott, presented all the necessary data for the " new launching " of Synthroid. As far as I know everythimng is going well at the FDA and they are studying the data. They also went to court to stop the false advertising that was being done by pharmaceuticals trying to start selling their Unithroid brand of thyroid hormone. ############################################## Arturo R. Anyone with a similar experiance? > Yes, the same thing happened to me. My first surgery was done to remove the left lobe that contained a 2.5 cm suspicious nodule. A frozen section was done while I was in surgery but it was determined to be benign. I was stitched up and sent home the next day. Four days later my surgeon called to say the final pathology determined the nodule was actually a follicular carcinoma. Final pathology had also located a second " incidental " papillary carcinoma (.9 cm) too (two very separate and distinct cancers had been identified)! I was rescheduled to have the remaining thyoid removed 10 days later. From what I've read, this is not uncommon with Follicular carcinoma. A positive diagnosis is made based on invasion through the capsule wall of the tumor. A benign adenoma <sp?> does not invade the capsule wall whereas a carcinoma will attempt to spread beyond it's confines. ===== Christy, 42, Las Vegas 2.5 cm Follicular and .9 mm Papillary 2/26/01 LL (Frozen Section was read as benign) 3/10/01 TT after a positive final pathology Hypoparathyroidism (.5 Rocaltrol/1500 mg calcium daily) 3/28/01 145 mCi RAI (without LID) __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Urmil, Welcome to our list. I'm so sorry to hear of your son's seizures. I highly recommend the ketogenic diet. We tried about 8 medicines & nothing seemed to help. The diet has been our miracle. Most stats say that the diet will completely stop seizures in 1/3 of children, help reduce the seizures in about 1/3, and will not work in about 1/3. I have no knowledge of the diet in India. It is very time consuming to prepare the meals (especially in the beginning), but if the diet works, it is WELL WORTH the extra time spent. The different hospitals all have different lengths of the hospital stay (I'd say most are 3 days to 7days, depending on the child). I would think the diet would be easily made into a vegetarian diet. You would be involved in the mealplanning, I would think that you could use whatever protein sources that you currently use. I wish you well on your search. By the way, your English is outstanding. Guest guest
Hi Urmil, I wanted to tell you that my son did the very same thing at 11 mos. He started with infantile spasms and we started ACTH at that time. He went on and off ACTH until he was about 2 1/2 and that is when we started the diet. has been very successful, seizure free and med free since about 3 weeks after starting the diet! The diet is worth it! It is not hard to learn or maintain once you get going. was in the hospital for 1 week. It took about 30 hours of fasting for him to get into Ketosis. Guest guest
DeEtte, My naturopathic physician recently told me about a device called a grounding pad. It is a mattress pad that "grounds" the electrical field of the body. The pad is made of carbon filament that is used in computer chip laboratories. It has a wire with a metal stake attached that goes out the window and into the ground. The naturopath claims his daughter never slept through the night until he got her one of these. He said he and his wife also sleep with one and find their sleep is more restful. Part of the problem is that all wires in the house give off an electromagnetic field that affect the body. He had one of the pads in his office and he put my daughter on it. He ungrounded it and had her hold a voltage meter. It read 200 millavolts. Then he snapped the grounding wire onto the pad and her body measured 1 millavolt. He said that the earth is slightly negatively charged and being connected with it will dissipate excess electricity in the body. That was enough for me - I contacted the company and my daughter has been sleeping on one for a week now. I have noticed that she is now giving up her daytime nap, so maybe she is resting better. I have also unplugged all cords in her room at night - no more night light, CD player, etc. The owner of the company told me he had just attended a naturopathic conference in Phoenix where he presented material on his grounding pad. He says that this pad allows the body to rest in a more natural state( for millions of years humans slept on the ground) so that healing can occur within the body. I have begun exploring this whole electromagnetic theory and find that my daughter seems to seize more often on carpet or with rubber soled shoes on (she has mostly myoclonics). It seems that carpet generates static electricity in the body and rubber soles do not allow the energy to leave the body. And obviously seizure prone kids are more sensitive to it. This week I have been sending her out to play barefoot and I have only observed one seizure, which is much less than usual. The neuro tells me that my daughter's brain goes nuts at night and seizes constantly, though she looks to be so peaceful. I would love to do another EEG with this grounding pad. If you are interested, check out their website: http://www.earthtether.com Sandy, 's mom (unknown) Geese. . .I feel like a broken record here. We'restill having problems with night seizures -- andthey're getting worse and my daughter is barelysleeping, nor, of course, am I. We visited ourhomeopathic physician yesterday and he 100% agreedthat there is a gut-brain connection here and gave metwo digestive enzymes to try. I'm in the process ofresearching this and plan to introduce very slowly. However, in the short term, I still think there'ssomething I have to be able to do to help her throughthe night. I think a partial solution may be abedtime snack -- although I've tried this before withlimited success. What I was doing was 50 caloriesworth of macademia nuts (about 6). I also saw a postearlier this week (which has been such a blur) about a"7-11" snack. . . 7 grams of peanut butter/11 grams ofbutter, which met this particular child'srequirements. I also saved a post from awhile back(just don't have it handy) from a Mom who said theyadded bedtime fruits/veggies. . .wondering if this wasjust fruits/veggies or if it was balanced withfat/protein.I know I've asked this before. . .but any thoughts onthis bedtime snack thing? It's just so difficultbecause her nights have been a mess for almost a week. Then she pops up awake by 6 a.m. and is "fine" -- oras fine as you can be on a total lack of meaningfuldeep sleep. I just know I'm not sending her off toschool well-rested and prepared to learn!Appreciate any thoughts! Guest guest
Hi, The 7-11 post was mine. My son has three meals a day spread out pretty evenly at about 343 calories each plus he gets 120 calorie snack before bedtime. From what I understand it is to keep his ketones at a consistent level (160 for him). Here are the calculations: 7g Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter-Pro 1.31-Fat 3.50-Carb 1.53-Cal 43 11g Butter-Pro .07-Fat 8.95-Carb 0.0-Cal 81 Mix them together. This is by far his favorite. I have two more 120 calorie snacks if you want them. Jello and whipped cream or chocolate " ice cream " I sympathize with you on the sleep time seizures. Dillon had seizures all night long for months. We seem to have good control with the diet on this point. Good Luck . Hope this helps a little! Guest guest
Hi welcome to the list. This sounds more like a urinary tract infection. Push lots of water. If it gets worse go to doctor. Kidney stones usually cause back pain not stomach pain. Good luck. Faye poohdle29@... wrote: > Hello everyone - I am brand new to the group and to the diet. I think your answer is in between these two options, I would take a urine sample to the lab for analysis. Could be kidney stones (the topomax might have been setting her up in advance, is she still on it?), could be UTI or could be she is dehydrated from flu. But yes, do get it checked out. Do you have the multistix to check her urine with ? If not, I would get some pronto. Good luck and let us know what happens? One more thought, her period?? , mom of (8), ketokid since 2/

Guest guest
, for what its worth at this stage, I agree with those who have already suggested a urinary tract infection. There might be a tummy ache, or what I would call a dull pain in the abdomen (from personal experience) and possibly blood if the bladder lining is irritated enough by the infection. Hannah had reddish colouring early in the diet but it is not normal for her now. As the others have said, give plenty of fluids and keep a careful eye out for any changes. Kidney stones would presumably cause greater pain. Let us know how your daughter goes . Hope it clears up soon. Guest guest
, I would always take blood very seriously. I would definitely get it checked out.
