Most flour products are made from wheat. This includes bread and crackers

as well as practically all pastas.

Humalog 5 and 20 grams of carbs is a 1:4 ratio. You noticed the pre-supper

bs reading of 7.3, and you knew it needed to go down. I think it will

depending on your insulin sensitivity, which the U factor is the measure of.

My 12 year old niece has type 1 diabetes and was having constant hypo's,

severe constipation and many other things were going wrong. Food that use

to sustain her at meal times wasn't holding and her sugar level would

plummet. For example bread, cereal, pasta she had just wouldn't keep her

levels up even though she had consumed what we would consider large

quantities.

She has had a blood test for it and apparently there are three things that

must show up in the blood test result before they then consider a bowel

biopsy to confirm that she has Celiacs. At this stage she is showing 2 and

we are waiting to see if my niece has another bad episode of hypo's to see

what step they want to take next.

It also doesn't help with her being such a picky eater and only like certain

brands of foods, they have to be cooked a special way. Potatoes are a prime

example we may eat mashed potato but she will only eat them whole. Oh man!

I have never consider that I could get Celiacs and it is still possible for

me to get it anytime in the future. Let's hope not!

Your fasting bs is too low. I still think you need to reduce that Lantus

dose from 8 units to 7 units, but it is your body. Something keeps making

you have low bs readings in the morning. I wonder if it could be that

Lantus dose?

Humalog 4 and 28 carb grams is a 1:7 ratio, which shoots your bs high.

I am just going to think out loud here for a moment. What if you wanted to

reach a bs reading of 7.0 moles and you started with a 3.1 mole reading. So

you ate 28 grams of carbs. Now how many carbs does 4 grams make your bs

rise. As I recall it raises your bs by 1.9 points. So what is 3.1 from

7.0? The difference is 3.9 mole points. It takes about 8 grams of carbs

to raise your bs to a reading of 7.0 from a 3.1 bs reading. So I ate 28

grams of carbs and I need 8 of these grams of carbs to get me to the target

of 7.0. So I need to dose for 28 grams minus the 8 grams, which means I

have to dose enough Humalog to deal with 20 grams of carbs. If my ratio is

1:5 this means I need to dose just 4 units of Humalog. If I am using the

decimal dosing method I would multiply 20 times 0.211, which gives an answer

of 4 plus a little more in units needed, so I round off the dose to the

nearest whole number which appens to be 4. So I would merrily eat my 28

grams of carbs knowing I can reach my target goal by dosing just 4 units of

Humalog, which will get me near to my target goal. This is what I would

recommend because you can use your C factor and your dosing ratio of 1:5 or

your decimal dosing factor of 0.211 to make this determination. But using a

sliding scale prescribed by the doctor is going to shoot your bs higher, and

probably much higher than 7.0.
