Guest guest
No, I am not saying you should not have taken that glucose tablet. I am saying that you were probably in the safe range even though your bs was low at 3.9 or USA of 70. However if taking that glucose tablet eases your worries, then it is okay to do so, since one glucose tablet raises your bs by 1.9 mole points, which still keeps you in the normal range. You did good! Guest guest
Yes, we are making some headway <smile>. Now Humalog 3 units for 21 carb grams is a 1:7 ratio. As I recall this ratio shoots your bs way up. Had you stayed at my recommendation of 1:5 ratio I think your two hour post prandial bs would be nearer your target goal say 5.5, but I think it is definitely going higher than that today. Only using your sugar meter will tell the tale. Once we figure out what your optimal Humalog to carb ratio actually is, you will be headed down the home stretch. You are getting closer and closer to gaining mastery of your bs. Good going! Re: Regulating 's blood sugar > > >> No, I am not saying you should not have taken that glucose tablet. Guest guest
Humalog 5 and 20 grams of carbs is a 1:4 ratio. One of these days you will take my advice about sticking to a specific number of units of Humalog for a specific number of grams of carbs for each meal for at least a couple of days, but I don't know when that day will arrive. Your way is not working, and my way did not work when I tried to do it my way instead of following 's instructions. Until you do, I guess we will just have to drag on. Guest guest
I thought you had decreased your Lantus to 7 units at night. Now you say you are bs 9.3 and you are dosing 8 units. One thing for sure. You are consistently inconsistent. I think your bs will be okay in the morning. If not, report your fasting bs here, and we will go from there. I still recommend you stick to one thing or another for a few days, no matter what, unless you are in the dangerously low zone for your bs. That is what you have glucose tablets for. Guest guest
Well, you have learned at least a couple of things, I hope. I have told you several times that you are dosing too much Lantus at night, and the results you have posted below confirms my conclusion and recommendation to you. Listen to my logic and see if you agree. You started out with a bs of 9.3 moles and no carbs were consumed. Yet you increased your Lantus from 7 units to 8 units at bedtime. This morning you have a fasting bs of 17.3. Is this extremely high bs due to your consuming a lot of carbvs at bedtime? The answer is absolutely " NO " . Is this high fasting bs due to the rebound effect? The answer is absolutely " YES " . Then what caused this rebound effect? The answer is simply you dosed too many units of Lantus at bedtime. I now make once again my recommendation for you to decrease your Lantus dose from 8 units to 7 units. I also recommend you keep it at 7 units at bedtime for the foreseeable future and do not change it until we both can see what is going on with your bs. Stick to 7 units of Lantus at bedtime. Being consistent with this recommendation means doing it for at least three days in a row until we can see what effect it is having. I will talk about the second observation in another post. Guest guest
The second thing we have learned is another U factor determination. 17.3 minus 5.7 equals 11.6 divided by 6 equals 1.93. You now have a second measure for your U factor. Your second U factor measure is 1.93 and the first U factor measure we derived was 1.50. You can average these two measures together to derive one U factor or you can get another one later to see what it is. When reducing a high bs, knowing your U factor can enable you to reduce it toward your target goal without overdosing Humalog. So conservatively 1 unit of Humalog reduces your bs by 1.93 pointsand using the extreme reduction of 1.5 moles reduction per one unit gives you another measure. The average for your U Factor with these two measures is 1.72. As you can see with such a wide discrepancy between the two measures, this is why a firm recommendation on what one's U factor actually is should best be made on several measures and several sets of data. Congratulations on getting that extremely high bs back down to your target goal! <smile> Re: Regulating 's blood sugar > harry > > > Tuesday pre breakfast b s seventeen point three > > Humalog six > > Carbs zero > > > > ate three quarters small bag sugar free gummy bears. > > > > I do not think skipping a meal is good. Guest guest
I thought you said there were no carbs in those gummy bears. At least I did not see any grams of carbs consumed at bedtime. I still recommend you take only 7 units of Lantus at bedtime, based on previous data where you had a bs at night of around 8 and you also dosed 8 Units of Lantus, and it gave you a rebound effect the next day. So my answer is still yes. Dose 7 units of Lantus at night for at least three days so we can see what is happening. Re: Regulating 's blood sugar > > >> Well, you have learned at least a couple of things, I hope. Guest guest
This is a good experiment. If you did not consume any carbs since you dosed those 6 units of Humalog, then you have a third U factor measurement, and this time it would measure the full effect of dosing Humalog over a 3 hour period of time or thereabouts, which means the Humalog is just about or it is used up and the full effect of its dose is now known. 17.3 minus 2.4 equals 14.9 divided by 6 equals 2.43. If this is the actual case the safest U factor for you would be 2.43 for you to use. Adding all of them together and averaging would give 2.43 plus 1.93 plus 1.50 equals 5.86 divided by 3 equals 1.95. The U factor is the average number of points reduced by a single unit of Humalog. Knowing your U factor can insure accuracy in dosing Humalog and lessening the probability of going extremely low and increasing your probability of reaching your target goal. Congratulations! You did good! Re: Regulating 's blood sugar > > >> Well, you have learned at least a couple of things, I hope. Guest guest
, have you ever been checked out for Celiacs? Here is some information I've extracted from an article published by the Juvenile Diabetes foundation. " An estimated 1 in 20 individuals with type 1 diabetes have celiac disease, a gluten-sensitive disorder. Many more are harbouring its markers and most don't know it. Widespread screening could prevent serious health consequences. Contrary to what was previously believed, occurrence of celiac disease isn't rare, especially among individuals with type 1 diabetes. According to Dr Green, professor of clinical medicine at Columbia University Medical Centre and director of the Celia Disease Center in New York, celiac disease affects as many as 1 in 100 people in the US and Europe. Recent statistics of celiac disease among people with type 1 diabetes are daunting: An estimated 1 in 20 people with type 1 diabetes have celiac disease and as many as 1 in 10 will test positive for transglutaminase IgA autoantibodies (an immune marker indicating a propensity for celiac disease and often an early sign the disease is present) - far higher than in the general population. CELIAC SYMPTOMS - WHAT TO LOOK FOR Classic symptoms of celiac disease include chronic diarrhoea or constipation, abdominal pain, gas and bloating. But other symptoms may occur in places other than the digestive tract and there not be associated with celiac disease. Here are some additional signs to look for: .. loss of appetite .. delayed growth .. fatigue .. anaemia .. bone and joint pain . weight loss .. irritability .. depression .. dermatitis herpetiformis (skin rash) .. discoloured tooth enamel Individuals with type 1 diabetes may also experience unexplained low blood glucose (hypoglycaemia) or high blood glucose (hyperglycaemia) levels. from down under Re: Regulating 's blood sugar > HARRY > > > THREE AM B S ELEVEN POINT SEVEN > > > > PREBREAKFAST B S ELEVEN POINT FOUR > > CARBS THIRTY THREE, FIBER CEREAL WITH MILK > > NEED SOME FIBRE IN MY DIET > > HUMALOG SEVEN > > > > I KNOW YOU WILL NOT BE VERY PLEASED WITH ME BUT I HAD TO GET SOME FIBRE > YESTERDAY WHILE WALKING I HAD TO STOP WITH STOMACH CRAMPS AND I CAN NOT > REMEMBER WHEN I LAST HAD A BOWEL MOVEMENT. Guest guest
I have a neighbor who has a son with Celiacs disease. I also searched the internet a while back and saw that diabetics suffer with a higher rate of Celiacs than most other folks. If eating wheat products causes you a lot of distress. it would be good to check it out.
