Well, Dr. Keath,

You deserve a big high-five for that weight loss! Congratulations! I am sure

that your surgery date was 12/05/00 instead of " 01 " ?? So you were the week

before me. Thanks for the vitamin info... Will you be at the picnic?

Yes, 2000. Must have been a brain slip when I typed it.

No picnic in my future. Job before fun it seems.

I recently bought a book having to do with

Chronice Fatigue. This book's main focus is fibromyalia.

It is written but a doctor. However, it does

highlight hypothyroidism. He goes on to say that a person

with either should be taking a multi-vitamin & a

b-complex vitamin as well. The B-Complex should have 50 mg

of all the important b's (b1,b2,b6). B12 is a

different level but is usually included in the B-complex at

an appropriate level.

Becky, I believe the facial hair growth (for women) declines or goes away as Prednisone decreases. At least it did for me, and I read that it generally does.

Hi there...

I have had a Liver Transplant and also suffer from Anaemia..............

I began to take Iron, Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid. After some blood tests at

my hospital I have been told to take very strong Iron Tablets (200mg) 3

times a day.

I feel a lot better now. Try and eat foods containing iron and also take

Vitamin C...

Best of luck...

There was something in last night's paper about a new drug to be used for people on dialysis with anemia -- I think the article said it had just been approved for that use but might be given a broader application. I'll let you know if I can track down the name, and we'll watch for it over the next few months.

Be sure to ask frequently if you are to continue taking the iron tablets. Don't take iron when you no longer need it.

I had extremely severe anemia about three years ago and was told to take a large amount of iron daily. I did so, religiously. After a year, my anemia went away, but no one told me to stop taking the iron tablets, and I assumed it was good preventive medicine. I soon learned that excessive iron intake can be quite damaging, particularly to the liver. I've always wondered if that was a factor in my developing AIH. It's a moot point now, of course. Harper

It sounds like a lot of us take alot of different vitamins. My doc suggested prenatal vitamins for me I seem to be doing okay but I wonder if there is something that would give me more energy. I understand that there is bone density tests and others that can be done. My doc hasnt mentioned any of these to me and I have been taking the meds for 3 years. I wonder if I should ask him? Has anyone else had these tests done? My doc also said a biopsy every 3 to 4 years. I guess that makes me do for one. I guess there is 2 different ways they can do the biopsy? I told my doc he wouldnt have the element of suprise on me to do another biopsy like the first doc did the first time. But there is one where they can acually knock you out for a little while, has anyone had that kind? I sure dont think I can stand the pain to have the other way done again. Thanks for the ear.

Patty AK

First, remember that none of us are doctors. We only can tell you what we've gleaned from reading and experience.

1) You mention prenatal vitamins. Are you pregnant?

2) For fatigue, my doctors and my reading say that there is nothing you can take for the energy problem. Regular appropriate exercise, good diet, weight loss if needed, reduced stress, and plenty of rest including naps are all that can be done.

3) Bone density tests indicate if you have bone loss from taking prednisone and/or from hormone changes. Many healthy women get them at menopause to help them decide whether to begin hormone replacement therapy, which is useful in combating osteoporosis. Bone density tests are painless, quick, and non-invasive. My doctors both insist that anyone beginning intensive prednisone treatment have a bone density test. Yes, I think you should tell your doctor that your want this test run. Prednisone leaches calcium from your bones. (That calcium, incidentally, may turn into kidney stones.) You will want to take calcium supplements and, perhaps, Fosamax to keep your bones strong. Get as much weight-bearing exercise as you can manage, plus calcium-rich foods. Osteoporosis can be extremely serious.

3) Not everyone needs a second biopsy. Every situation is different. Also, your next biopsy may not be painful. Most are not. However, sedatives can be given if necessary.

Best wishes.

Hi Roni,

You can have your blood tested for a B12 deficiency, perhaps even for

others. I personally know about the B12 test because my doctor

requested it and I was extremely low. I got it back up to normal

levels, however, rather quickly with a B12 supplement and now I take a

maintenance amount and my doctor will recheck my levels periodically.

*looks down at pill box* :-) I just take a standard multivitamin (One-A-Day

for Woman, but switching to the Energy formula as soon as this bottle of it

is done), 400 mg of Vit. E, Selenium, 2 mg of Folic Acid (prescription), and

450 of Vit. C. I found after being on the MTX a while, I've become deficient

in C and started taking it.

Becky

I still take prenates, cause I could get preggie at any time,

really. I've never taken BC and am very fertile. We are CAREFUL,

but you just never know.

I read alot about vitamins in the literature Likness sent me.

He uses a brand called The Bridge and it's a balanced vitamin. It

takes into consideration the fact that you don't need 2000% vitamin C

in a pill. Stuff like that, I think. You may want to check that out.

Best of luck!

Do they taste ok enough to disguise in yogurt or ice cream -- you could let him

put some sprinkles on top of it and they come in all sorts of shapes now.

it really good? We use

Nutrichem flavored with Southern splash and no matter what we give them in,

Ben (9) doesn't like to take them. He does need them as they have added

calcium and such. Any ideas would be helpful. Also he is a very picky

eater!

Thanks.

Have you tried mixing them with chocolate syrup? This works with a

lot of medicines. Good luck!

try putting the vitamines in applesauce or yogurt. My kids love the

individual strawberry applesauce made by motts fruitsations and they love

trix yogurt. Try putting it in his favorite food that you know he would eat.

Maybe you could also try his cereal. Good luck. I hope this helps.

Dear Pharmacygirl

Vitamin K is known as mephyton (oral solid)and aquamephyton

(injectable) are known coagulants.

vitamin K is found in green leafy vegetables and egg yolk among many

other food sources.

As a side note: When a person is on warfarin, most patients are told

not to change their eating habits. In this way the pts will get all

of their nutrients and fiber from such food and any coagulation

effects will be offset from the anticoagulant drug, warfarin.

I hope that this helps.

Yes, I didn't start taking 3 vitamins until around my 6th month after

surgery. I took only 2. I can take 3 vitamins now. Make sure you take them

with food.

Walgreens has gum ball vitamins. I chew gum three time a day and sometimes

more to get my vitamins. I hate pills.
