I'm going to keep this email, thanks, In the list I have been unknowingly

eating food rich in potassium, eating strawberries like they are going out

of style, they are at peak best right now, greens always eat those, so I'm

on the right track, maybe I just need to eat more in quantity. I'll do this

and if things don't change I'll have my PCP check it in my blood and then

retrack and go from there Again thank!

What is that and what foods can I find that in? Like I said, I do NOT want

to take anymore meds but will supplement my meals with the right foods.

Hi Terry,

Are you drinking enough water? Also, leg cramps, aside from being a side effect from medication, can also be a potassium deficiency. Try getting more bananas and tomatoes (I know about the salmonella issue, but cooked tomatoes are OK).

Muscle cramps can also be a side effect of medications, like Advair can cause this. And low pottasium, yes.

I hadn't been but have made myself start drinking at least 1 liter every 3 hours, I keep a bottle with me. I noticed when I took a shower today that even if I over stretched a arm the muscle would tighten up and feel sore, I bet it is the Potassium, all this I'm experiencing I bet you is that! I'm going for a banana right now, just bought some at the store. Out side of tomato's and potatoes what else has potassium in it that I can consume? I don't want to have to result to yet another pill to take.

I SWEAR, if this dang gone fly doesn't leave me alone, I'm going to have to go on him with a fly swatter LOL! Annoying thing!

I felt so bad last night, not physically, my dh was still not home when I got home at 9ish last night, there was a terrible storm heading right for us, and he hadn't even left work yet which is 45 minutes away. I told him I had to go I had to do my pfr for the night that the computer was flashing at me and I always do it at 7 when Wheel of Fortune comes on, I do it like clock work and take my meds EVERY 12 hours and was over due. He asked, How has that been going? I've been so busy at work I hadn't thought to ask you about that, so I filled him in and he was like, "You've given me a few good scares like last weekend in Baltimore at the Truck Rodeo, this all just reminds me how quickly our life could change if you didn't take care of yourself and your health, your so on top of things" I hate for people to worry so much. I don't mention my issues with my head injury, my heart was broken yesterday when my niece who's 7 who I'm very close to sat by me on the porch before my last child left for the day, and she asked me very quietly, "Did your staples come out yet?" I just sat there dumbfounded and asked her what was she talking about, she was talking about when I fell, she said she was so scared and was crying, I asked her brother about it and he said, yeah, Aunt Terry, she was so afraid you had died because you weren't moving and so many people were around you and everyone kept saying, it was bad, that you were really hurt bad. My heart just sank, I gave my niece a big bear hug and told her I was fine, I don't remember being hurt and I'd be here with her as long as the Lord permitted me to. She felt alot better after that. That poor child has had that on her mind for almost a month. I really feel bad that so many worried and were upset over that

That is sweet and sad! IT is hard when the kids internalize everything. My three year old daycare boy whom I have had since he was 4 months was worried when I went back to the hospital. He was saying his bedtime prayers and added a special prayer for me without anyone telling him to. His grandma called me just to tell me that. It was pretty sweet. You sound like you have good support from your family!

My girlfriend last night was blown away by how I couldn't remember things, I could talk about this before the accident like it just happened, I also found it very hard to concentrate on simple tasks LOL, and then she said, WHERE"s your sweater? YOU ALWAYS have your sweater, I was like what the heck of you are talking about? She just started laughing It's frustrating to not remember things, but I just have to laugh it off, she got upset with me and told me if I didn't go to the Neuro dr SHE was going to make the appt and drag me to it. I told her if she thought she was big enough to do it, go for it! I was fed up with drs and such, she's worried about a blood clot, I told her to quit worrying, that if it was my time to go it was my time, that I wasn't worried, I was dealing with it

NOT YOU TOO! I think it just needs time to finish healing, but it hasn't been a full month yet either, next week it will be and I'm sure my PCP will call me or have his nurse call me, he drives me nuts with checking in on me but I shouldn't complain because he's a good caring dr!

Re:question

Hi Terry,

Are you drinking enough water? Also, leg cramps, aside from being a side effect from medication, can also be a potassium deficiency. Try getting more bananas and tomatoes (I know about the salmonella issue, but cooked tomatoes are OK).

Another thing to consider regarding your leg cramps; are you taking calcium? I was having leg cramps, and my doctor told me to take calcium for it, and I haven't been having any leg cramps since I started on it. Steriods can deplete your calcium. Also, make sure you are getting enough vitamin D.

Hugs,

Debbie in Chicago

I know that drinking water is a good thing, but be careful not to drink too much. You may be spilling potassium in your urine and it could lead to a greater deficiency. I have learned way too much about potassium in the past 7 months with 3 ICU stays for critically low levels. I am now staying just above the critical range by taking 4 potassium pills 3X day, 2 different potassium sparing drugs 1X a day and another 3X a day plus a 14 hour potassium IV a day. Yet drs can't figure out the problem. It is amazing all the symptoms the low levels (called hypokalemia) can cause!Terry wrote: I hadn't been but have made myself start drinking at least 1 liter every 3 hours, I keep a bottle with me. I SWEAR, if this dang gone fly doesn't

leave me alone, I'm going to have to go on him with a fly swatter LOL! Annoying thing! Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. If you have the freedom to choose with your insurance company then you should see either a GI doctor or a hepatologist . Hep C has been clumped into a sexually transmitted category by a past president , so now days as soon as your diagnosed your local health department gets notified . But seeing an infectious disease doctor couldn't hurt , but to me it sounds like a waste of time and money lol And welcome to the group , I'm one of the co-owners here and I do the postings for medical research . Feel free to ask our group anything .

Question

I was diagnoised last week for hepatitis C. The local doc told me to go to an infectious disease clinic. One of my questions is: shouldn't I go to a liver specialist since I have severe abdominal pain along with 5 other symptoms of chirosis? And what can I do for the pain that won't harm my liver more?

Of course we don't mind , that's the purpose of group chatting ... I myself have never heard of an infectious disease doctor treating hepatitis c so thank you for telling us of your husbands experience with one .

It was odd because he only treated the Hep C (or attempted to) and disregarded all the other body systems affected...I was not comfortable with him at all-and I was not allowed to ask any questions-which you know by now would have put me over the edge :)
