Guest guest
I'm lumping ND in from online conversations I've had with autismdiva and read from a few other people who have blasted me on the AS boards for treating my daughter. I'm not talking about anything Lenny's said, I don't agree with him half the time myself. I stand by my statements from my own experiences. Guest guest
There is an expression or vision that everyone who does the same thing walk the same path, follow each other, etc. If you imagine 100 people and 99 of them all walk the same path, the grass, sticks, and other stuff get " beaten " into the dirt from feet. If someone does something different it's described as walking off that pat, or " off the beaten trail. " They aren't doing things like everyone else, so they make their own trail. Guest guest
Didn't mean to stir anything up, but that is just my opinion in regards to my daughter. I understand what you are saying (Kassi) but just an example my daughter still uses pull ups to do #2, because she is terrified of the splash in the toilet. So imagine in school how her stomach must feel if she needs to go to the bathroom but she can't because she doesn't know how to ask for a pull up. By the way she is 6. It just breaks my heart to know that she is suffering inside and there is NOTHING I can do to help her. Kassie just one question, are you a mother? If not, just like a " typical " child will never understand the worries of a mother until she becomes one, that also applies for a child with any type of " label " as you call it. I will drop this conversation at that, I don't want to be the problem starter or stir up any emotions, trust me that is not why I joined this group. > > > > > > > Kassi, you are great about helping and trying to > > > > weed out the " really > > > > needs help " vs " think about it, what does it > > matter > > > > in the big > > > > picture " stuff. Guest guest
Are you autistic? Didn't think so. Therefore, your opinions on autism are less relevant than mine. Guest guest
You're trying to say MY opinions arent welcome because IM not a mom. That's not fair. You KNOW that isn't fair. The appeal to emotions is the NT female (usually female) way of saying " I was unfair but want people to think Im the good guy anyway, feel sorry for me because Im a MOM with an AUTISTIC KID and am SAYING I was trying to be the bigger person even if I WASNT " . Guest guest
Kassiane, becoming a mother changed me completely, in ways I never imagined nor could have predicted. I've eaten so many words that I spoke before motherhood that I've lost count. I think that's what the comment was about when you were asked if you are a mother. It's not about opinions not being welcome. It's about perspective. You are PURE GOLD to us as far as the WEIGHT of your opinion, because you speak from a perspective that most of us are trying to gain, and that's to walk in the shoes, see through the eyes of our daughters. Your comments, opinions, strong positions have also changed me. We are all works in progress. No one meant any offense or disrespect. We appreciate you.
