I am just guessing here regarding an average A1C glucose level that averages

271 would be the equivalent A1C level of:

10 240 (275)

It would be better if would post the actual A1C level. She should

call her doctor and have the nurse tell her what it is over the telephone.

The reading above is definitely bad and requires a prompt and definite

change in her behavior and attitude, if it is true.

Even if her glucose blood sugar level is 271, not a HbA1C test reading, it

is definitely not good. A diabetic, no matter whether type 1 or type 2,

should keep their highest glucose reading to no more than 160 and definitely

no more than 170, where sorbitol forms in the blood stream causing permanent

cell damage. If this reported level is just her glucose level reading, then

she is more than a hundred points above accepted limits for a non-diabetic,

and it would be considered to be a worse reading for a diabetic.

A two hour post meal reading of 120 or less is the goal to achieve.

Call the office again and ask the following questions:

What is my last glucose reading?

What is my last A1C reading?

These are entirely two different questions, and the nurse or doctor should

know the answer to them. If they don't, I would wonder if I have the right

doctor.

Good advice, Harry!

's Time

,

You will notice that the subject line of this message has been changed from

a blank subject line to one that reads:

's Time

Instead of visiting you once or twice per month, as the nurse will, by using

this message thread, you can be visited as often as you need; even several

times per day, if necessary.

In other words you have at your fingertips doctors, nurses and experts in

the treatment of diabetes at your beckoning call.

If you wish to keep this message thread going, just reply without changing

the subject line.

In order to assist you in gaining control over your diabetic condition we

need some specific information about you.

For instance we need to know the exact name of the medications and dosage

you take, if any. Other information about would be helpful, but this is the

best way to start this message thread. This time is yours, and we are here

to help, so keep it up.

Theresa, if you can, call and ask for the exact number such as 9.9, 10.0, or

whatever the a1c reading is.

The indication of 20 mg lipitor a day shows that your blood sugars are very

very poor. We gotta start cutting your carbs back. Limit yourself to 15

grams per meal to start and then we can up it or down it based on your blood

sugar readings. Do you have a blood sugar testing meter? If so, what does it

measure in? I.E does it show sugar is 120 or 6.6?

Your pre meal sugar should be 80, or 5.0 in Canadian, and your 2 hour post

meal test should be 120, or 6.6 in Canadian, and to get those levels, you

just cut your quick acting carbs back and replace them with green leafy

veggies and good healthy meats.

You can get all nutrients from green leafy veggies that you can from fruit

so get rid of fruit, fruit juices, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, snack foods

like chips, pretzels, and so on.

Theresa, can you see at all or are you blind? The reason I ask is you have

to start reading the carb grams on the labels of the foods you are eating.

Harry, can you send her the carb gram list to her that Dean sent us all?

The only medication you are taking relating to glucose levels is metphorman-

1000 mg, and since you are not injecting insulin, one can safely assume that

you are a type 2 diabetic. metphorman- 1000 mg can also be used as a diet

medication to control weight gain by limiting the amount of glucose in the

blood stream that can be converted to fat.

What are the times you take your medications? Do you take it with meals,

before meals or after a meal or just any time twice per day?

Answering these questions would be very helpful.

Do you wish for me to send you the carb guide as an email attachment?

All you have to do is let me know and it is yours. It was prepared by a

fellow lister here, and it is an excellent general purpose carb counter.

once you get your sugars under control, you'll see the need for all those

medications reduce. Typically, you are on medication from the high sugar in

your blood causing the problems.

Many will tell you on the list that once they got their blood sugars under

control by cutting carbs back, their diabetic complications reversed or

stopped.

Just an inquiry ,

How often do you take Lisinopril?

Have you ever had a heart attack?

Do you take metphorman just prior to meals?

Which one of them has the most nourishment and the least amount of carbs?

I think I would try that one.

if you don't like breakfast, then don't eat it. Eat lunch and dinner but limit

those meals to 15 grams of carbs. Eat green leafy veggies, good meats, and you

should be good. I am betting those shakes are loaded with carbs. That is why

most can drink it for a meal... high in carbs is my hunch.
