Guest guest
yup, I know the feeling smile. But I love to have the ability to check my sugar at any point/time. Especially when I feel odd like I am low or whatever. Half the time I'm not Hahaha. Thank God I check. Other day felt low and was 123. Guest guest
Does it matter whether the olives are those ones that are stuffed or should I eat just regular olives? I want to try to do things right here. Here's what I had for dinner tonight. I didn't get home until 7:15 p.m. because I had to work late today. I had some lettuce so I put that in a bowl and had 3 cherry tomatoes which I chopped up. I had 3 pearl onions which I added to the mix. Then I put some pepper, a little salt but I couldn't taste the salt. Then I put some bacon bits and salad supreme on the salad. I used French dressing. Was that ok? The salad was good. It hasn't been two hours yet but I sure liked it. Does that sound ok or did I do something wrong? Also, what if I can't eat every 4 hours. I'm going to have trouble doing that when I'm working because of the time. Can I eat some cheese or veggies at the 4 hour mark if I can't eat a meal? Sorry for so many questions. I'm just trying to do this right and you guys are the experts. I trust all of you. Thanks. Guest guest
You are doing fine, it took you years to become a diabetic, you don't have to do it perfect in a day. Don't know your details, but as a novice which I am, understands it, the idea is to keep your sugar between certain exceptable levels. Not to high or to low. Your work has to allow you to snack as a reasonable accomodation. Your list of snacks sounds good. I hear string cheese is a good snack. I am from Wisconsin but that hasn't helped me like cheese. I think your salad sounds fine, especially if the French dressing is Low fat. Your meter readings will give you the best feedback on what is working. What works for you, may not work for me. I have been a very irregular eater, and the biggest adjustment, is to try to eat three meals a day. It is easier to graze, and as long as I graze on reasonable foods I do okay. I am also a month in to diagnossis, taking a pill twice a day, and adjusting diet to lower sugar and triglycerides. Have gone from 250 to 115 on the glucose. No idea about colesteral and triglyceride levels. So my situation chemistry and weight may not be your's. Keep up the good work.
Guest guest
Sharron. Lynda, new to the list, started on 1 shot of lantus (8 units) at 8 PM and 2 units of humalog per 15 grams at each meal and was regulated for the first time in her life in only 2 days. This works Sharron, trust me. Ask Lynda. Guest guest
Sharron the nice thing about using 1 shot of lantus at 8 PM and useing humalog to cover your carbs, you do not get low sugared and can skip meals if you want. I.E you do not get low from lantus, you would only get low from humalog if that would ever happen. Lantus does not have a peek action in it. it is smooth and never peeks. Humalog peeks in 2 hours past taking it. So, if humalog is not in your body, you typically do not run low at all. So, it is possible to skip meals and then when you get home, do a pre meal test, eat up to 45 to 60 grams of carbs at a meal, dose your humalog, do a 2 hour post meal check, and you are done with it. Not only that, this gives you much more flexibility in your lifestyle since you are quite busy. More questions, ask, I am here. Guest guest
yes, that salad was fine but really, you could have had a slice of bread with it since you didn't eat to many carbs. You can eat up to 45 to 60 grams of carbs at a meal if on humalog. If on oral meds, keep meals around 30 grams. Just read your food labels to see how many carbs are in the food. Salads are pretty much free (for the most part). The meal you ate was fine and very low carb. Just keep asking questions Sharron, we are here to help and this is not hard. It really isn't... all you are doing is limiting your carbs to 30 grams while on oral meds. You may not even need insulin if you do that. It might bring your sugars completely under control and you might only need 1 shot of lantus and not a split dose. Limit your carbs to 30 grams a meal, at any meal, and keep your meals 4 hours apart. Guest guest
Good job ... way to get that sugar down... Regards, Re: Cy - low carb You are doing fine, it took you years to become a diabetic, you don't have to do it perfect in a day.

Guest guest
Lantus is the long acting insulin usually taken once per day. Humalog is the short acting insulin taken to cover carbs consumed at meals. If your mealtime insulin Humalog and your daily dose of Lantus happen to coincide, there is no problem with taking your dose of Lantus and also taking your dose of Humalog to cover the carbs consumed at mealtime. Of course I am assuming you are taking these two different insulins in two different injections. I am also assuming you plan to take a two hour post meal glucose reading to be sure you are not running into the hypoglycemic range. Once you have mastered carb counting and Humalog dosing, this will probably not be a problem. Guest guest
yes, you can take humalog at 8 PM with the lantus. There is no reason to take them at different times. however, you have to stay up til at least 10 pm to check the sugar to catch the peek of the humalog and if you are ok, then you can go to bed. I.E you don't dose humalog and go to bed. That isn't a good idea in case you take to much and could go low. However, once the system is in place and you are doing things correctly, you dont' typically go low at all... you run 80 pre meal and your 2 hour post meal is about 120 or less. Guest guest
Hello Sharon and List, I do know Marie's Blue cheese salad dressing has zero carbs and loads of flavor. Also I'd like to suggest Gorton's lemon fish. I believe it is cod. Delicious and one carb per serving! Rita

Guest guest
I was just wondering if the blind diabetics know about the device called count a dose? I use it to draw up my insulin up. Just wanted to know if everyone is familiar with it? rw Re: Cy - low carb > > > Hello Sharon and List, > I do know Marie's Blue cheese salad dressing has zero carbs and loads of > flavor. > > Also I'd like to suggest Gorton's lemon fish.
