Hello,I see how to reply now thank you for the help.Oh, wow, I did not know that about Yaz. I was on Prozac, Yaz, Ibuprofin, and Hydrocodone for my testing of Aldosterone and Renin. I also did not change my diet in any way before the test; i.e. low salt diet.My doctor that discovered my Conn's Syndrome also diagnosed my Marfans. She says I am an 'interesting patient' which I take as meaning I have a lot of medical problems. Regarding the question of Dashing, I am not sure what that is. Thanks,Glenda

I would thing that having Marfan's Syndrome one would have to have A Dr that

understands that they just can't treat you the same as normal.

Yaz likely affects renin and Aldo and can cause HTN. WHAT WERE THE DRUGS AND

OTHER stuff h were on when renin and

Aldo were tested.

I am not sure how to respond to a post so I am creating a new one.

This is a response to two different posts asking me questions.

The CT scan I had that showed the tumor on the adrenal gland was 10 years ago.

I went to the endo that I am going to now two years ago. At that time, she did

an MRI that was negative and she did the 24 hour urine a year ago and an

aldosterone and renin at that time. She said the aldosterone was a little high

but wasn't worried about it. She decided to recheck it a few weeks ago and that

is when I had the aldosterone of 174.6 when normal is 1-16. The renin was 7.55;

I believe from .39 to 23.86 is normal for renin. She stated the MRI was a false

negative because of the type of tumor I have.

My meds are prozac, Ibuprofin, Yaz, and sometimes Hydrocodone if needed. My

blood pressure runs around 138/82 to 158/88 and I do eat a lot of salt (I crave

it a lot.) My other medical conditions are Marfan's Syndrome and severe

scoliosis with dural ectasia (very painful). I did have surgery on my left

ureter to my left kidney because the ureter was really narrow and causing me

hydronephrosis. This has since resolved.

I have stopped the Diovan and only took it for two days. The second day I had

chest and leg pain in the middle of the night and it scared me bad enough to

where I won't take it again. I plan on calling the doctor tomorrow to get a new

HTN med.

I found out my T3 is also elevated 247 when normal is 85-205.

As many Drs dont know how to interpret renin and also numbers (even endos)

please send your exact numbers and the normals for that lab.

Also what drugs were you on?

Did he collect a 24 hr urine at the same time for Na, K and creatinine. Without

these it is impossible to interpret the numbers.

So was it 50 years ago or what.

We always need the EXACT details.

We need both renin and aldosterone numbers. Also lab range. List all meds you

take.

You need to tell your endrocrinologist about your problem with Diovan.

If it was me I wouldn't take a drug that did this to me.

Hello,

I was just dianosed this AM and have some questions. What symptoms do you have?

I have put on a lot of weight over the last few years-20 + pounds- and I feel

bloated all of the time. I can't seem to fit into any of my pants anymore. My

stomach area is swollen. I also seem to sweat really easily and a lot. Any one

else with these symptoms?

This seems to be a bit high. Renin was 7.55 I believe from .39 to 23.86 is

normal for renin.

Isn't the lab range a bit high. Most labs have a high some where around 5. I can

see where some might be a bit above this. 23.86 i would think is high.

EVERY lab is different as there is not reference that can be sent to all labs for quality control. my sodium levels are fine. my potassium is dropping again even with taking in

200 meq's a day.

pulmonary doc put me on nebulizers for breathing and i think it is lowering the

potassium.

doctors can't find reason for the edema. i have had 2 scares of kidney failure

and 2 scares of liver failure, but they are showing ok now.

if i was taking in too much sodium, wouldn't my sodium levels be high?

my blood pressure is fine, more trouble with it dropping.

other meds i am on:

amiloride 5 mg 2tabs 2x day

inspra 50 mg 1x day

torsemide 10 mg 2x day

diabetes meds

narcolepsy meds

reflux meds

cpap

oxygen

doctor added xaroxlyn (sp?) to see if that would get the fluid off and

monitoring my potassium very closely. was 4.5 when i started it yesterday.

taking 200 meq's potassium and take extra 50 if i start cramping.

remember my aldosterone levels are VERY high. over 15,000 and 16,000 in each

adrenal gland. so they have measured the potassium in urine and i excrete a LOT

out daily.

do you take insurances? my doc would probably approve anything that is legit

with insurance.

He openly states he doesn't know about the disease and wants to send me

somewhere. he was talking about Baylor,but doesn't know of a doctor to handle

the case there that knows about hyperaldosteronism.

another factor is i am in wheelchair now due to DDD in my back. my legs hang

down when i am active. i lost a lot of muscle strength when i went undiagnosed

for over 5 years with potassium level of 2.4. doctors and ER personnel kept

saying don't worry if low, only if too high.

i was bedridden and had to use a brace to hold my neck up and i could barely

walk and fell many times causing more injury to the body. i can now walk/stand

for short distances, PT seems to make it worse.

the severe edema would happen once a month and then go down. lately it hasn't.

i have been having multiple UTI's also.
