Guest guest Report post Posted August 22, 2007 My own daughter's gut and sensory issues were pretty severe before we took her to Dr. Geier. We had long suspected she was high in testosterone with the way she was developing... her freakish strength (for a girl her age) and aggression. We knew she was low in glutathione and high in heavy metals. After reading Dr. Geier's work and interviewing him a few times for FAIR's site (autismmedia.org), I decided to have my daughter tested for her testosterone levels. She was nearly three times her reference range. At the time, for her age... she should have been no higher than 10 ng/dcl and she was well into the twenties. Today, her reference range (at the high end) is considered to be around 30 ng/dcl. But we're keeping her in the low end of that range hovering around 8 ng/dcl. with lupron. Critics of this protocol say we're chemically castrating our kids with dangerous chemicals! They don't care that lab science can show this is WORKING... and that my daughter is doing so much better than she was. Her glutathione levels have gone up... and she's dumping more metals without chelation than she had otherwise (though we may continue to chelate again in the future). One of the BIGGEST and immediate changes since going on lupron was the VAST improvement in my daughter's tactile defensiveness. She used to act like her nerves were on fire and hated being touched! Once we got her T levels down... she became the most affectionate and loving kid!!! Her attention span improved... and she also started to see great improvements in her gut symptoms... not a cure for the gut problems mind you... but much better. I was hoping his testosterone levels were high too, and then I could do something specific, but they are within a very normal range. Guest guest Report post Posted August 22, 2007 I am sorry testosterone was not the culprit. Is he mercury toxic? Does he have fragile x, Rett's syndrome, or tuberous sclerosis? Of course you don't have to answer. I think it's great that people are searching for answers for the children who do not have high levels of testosterone, who are not mercury toxic, who do not have Rett's, fragile x, or tuberous sclerosis. My problem is: What about the kids who do have high levels of testosterone and mercury and do not have fragile x, tuberous sclerosis, or Rett's? Do we just throw them under the bus while we're looking for other answers? And drag them out when they're in their twenties and the likelihood of improvement is nill? I wouldn't wish neglect on any child with autism but that's what we who have children with high levels of testosterone/mercury and not fragile x, Rett's, or tuberous sclerosis are getting from AS and other members of the ASD community who are not in the same boat. Dear Lord, there are 1 million children who are being basically neglected by the scientific autistic community at large - those who are mercury toxic/have high levels of testosterone. We know what caused our kids autism but does the scientific community at large or the pharmaceutical industry, or the s care? Thank God for the very few exceptions. Guest guest Report post Posted August 22, 2007 Answering what we can is what this forum's about isn't it? All 3 are mercury toxic, OH YES. No fragile x, Rett's, nor tuberous schlerosis. We are working on healing their guts and preparing them for oral chelation due to actual Heavy Metal Intoxication, including high biomarkers for mercury. We have done a challenge test and are awaiting the results. While we are preparing them for chelation with DMSA, we are also helping them chelate with natural protocols: epsom salt baths, nutritional supplements such as amino acids, vitamins and minerals (some more than others), good nutrition in foods without crap in it, etc. I suspected the mercury for a long time (they were born in the 90's, fully-vaccinated, and I'm Rh-negative so they got a ton of stuff in utero and out) and we are finally on track but we're always looking for ways to help their outcomes. That is why I never dismiss what parents say about mercury and advocate for further research into that area. Even when she was in the LOWER HALF of what is considered a normal reference range... we continued to see improvements when we took her levels even lower. The key may be how heavy-metal toxic your kid is... The second punch is viral. Andy Shih has vehemently denied a relationship between thimerosal and autism on many occasions. If I may ask, what is your opinion of the CNV research coming out of Cold Spring Harbor? I discussed this with our DAN! and she said given the levels of testosterone, we might be able to address this issue at other sites in his body, rather than with Lupron, which makes her a bit uncomfortable given his seemingly very normal levels. What do you think? Guest guest Report post Posted August 22, 2007 My daughter was born in 1990. I didn't receive a Rho-gam shot though I was told all throughout my pregnancy that I would have to. My daughter also has a seizure disorder (first seizure 2 weeks after a HIB vaccine) and obviously has immune system problems which we are currently investigating. Her testosterone level is very high, as is her mercury level. She received over 200 mcg of ethyl mercury in her vaccines. She has no fillings. We don't eat foods known to contain mercury.
