Guest guest
A new video uploaded to You Tube blasts Autism Speaks for theirnegative portrayal of families affected by autism in the "AutismEvery Day" video.****************************************************************************************************http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46LYd4Xe63YDescription: You won't find McElwain's story on the AutismSpeaks website. You won't find any videos of autistic children unlessthey further Autism Speaks hopelessness and pity message. You won't find anything written by an autistic person, save a verycontroversial letter written by a member of Grasp. You won't find any autistic employees among the 130 employees ofAutism Speaks. There aren't any autistic board members. Unlike othercharities such as The National Down's Syndrome Society, Autism Speakswill not allow autistic people to serve in any capacity, not that wewould want to, but it might be a nice gesture to be invited. You won't find any autistic speakers at Autism Speaks rallies. I knowfor a fact that autistic people have offered to speak at rallies andevents. But, we have been summarily rejected and told that therallies and events are not a proper "venue" for us to speak at.You also won't find Bob , Suzanne or ,seeking any type of input or even enlightenment from autistic adults. You see, we are invisible to them. You won't find Autism Speaks spending a dime on helping change thelaws of medical insurance, worker accommodation, employment, ordevices that could help improve the lives of autistic people. What Autism Speaks will offer you is hopelessness, pity, and researchto find a cure for future generations of autistic people so we won'texist anymore. If you believe Autism Speaks will help your childright now, you are wrong. Autism Speaks is governed by a board made up mainly of the "SuperRich". You know, the people who have wedding announcements in Town & Country magazine. The people who purchase exotic cars like theFerrari P4/5 so they can demoralize their neighbors with theirpersonal extravagance. You'll also find two board members whom have stated to the publicthat they have wished their child were dead.If you feel generous, please give to the National Down's SyndromeSociety. The NDSS has board members with down's syndrome and thesociety actively encourages positive images of DS people. The Societyalso fights for the civil rights and dignity of people with DS.Until Autism Speaks changes its message and includes autistic peopleon their Executive Committee and Board, please See what's free at AOL.com. Guest guest
I don't care too much for the video's author, Kent , aka " Christschool. " He's a pretty vicious fella who attacks those of us who are using biomedical interventions to try to help our kids. He has gone so far as to compare me to Charlie Manson and use expletives against me. All the while attempting to remain anonymous. He doesn't want you to know that his real name is Kent . He doesn't want you to know that his son's name is . But he'll gladly call any of us to the carpet by name... and tell us off from the comfort of his anonymity. Well phooey to that. I give nothing he says credence. While many of us may criticize Autism Speaks for not doing what we believe in... he's criticising for different reasons. And they're not my reasons. > > > A new video uploaded to You Tube blasts Autism Speaks for their > negative portrayal of families affected by autism in the " Autism > Every Day " video. > ****************************************************************************** > ********************** > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46LYd4Xe63Y > > Description: You won't find McElwain's story on the Autism > Speaks website. Guest guest
You don't care for him because he blasts biomedical, that's understandable. But the part where Tepper Singer keeps saying she would have driven off of a bridge if it wasn't for her TYPICAL daughter rings true. You may not get along with him or like him, but what he says rings true to me in that particular instance. > > > > > > A new video uploaded to You Tube blasts Autism Speaks for their > > negative portrayal of families affected by autism in the " Autism > > Every Day " video. > > ****************************************************************************** > > ********************** > > > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46LYd4Xe63Y > > > > Description: You won't find McElwain's story on the Autism > > Speaks website. Guest guest
I just re-read my post and I don't think I was clear. What I was trying to say is -- the guy who produced the video is CORRECT in several of his assertions about AS, such as the part where Singer said she'd drive off the bridge, etc. And that they portray autism as this hopeless chasm of despair. They showed these kids at their worst moments to make everyone feel sorry for them so they'd garner more monetary support. To think that I used to be one of their supporters makes me wonder where the hell my brain was for 7 years. I'm a reformed sheeple. > > > > > > > > > A new video uploaded to You Tube blasts Autism Speaks for their > > > negative portrayal of families affected by autism in the " Autism > > > Every Day " video. > > > > ****************************************************************************** > > > ********************** > > > > > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46LYd4Xe63Y > > > > > > Description: You won't find McElwain's story on the Autism > > > Speaks website. Guest guest
Why must it be one or the other?? I'm not a fan of the neurodiverse either. They spew forth hatred for anything different than what they are. Kind of ironic when you consider they want to be accepted for who they are....but I digress. They consistently rip parents to shreds who have chosen biomedical interventions for their children or for those who have supported the finding of a cure. If a cure were found, I'd choose to administer it in a New York minute. On the other side of the coin, the $60 million ship..... depends on who is steering it. It could be the Poseidon. > > > > I'm not a fan of Singer, either. She's part of what's really > wrong with A.S. > > >
Guest guest
This is reactionary neurodiverse twaddle. Autism Speaks cannot be defended for a few important things that they do or don't do, but the ND crowd carry no moral weight themselves to be making such criticisms. Given AS's love affair with big pharma and genetics -- and if the failed Pretending to Combat Autism Act is any example of AS's political prowess. . . I would prefer they stay out of politics. The scarey thing is that AS is moving heavily in that direction in their Borg effort to supplant the ASA as the voice of autism, amongst other things. Better just to ignore whining neurodiverse poppycock. Autism is a disability, not a small confederation of HF misanthrops. Guest guest
I don't agree, Lenny. The neurodiverse have an opinion too. THEY HAVE AUTISM. Just like your kid, just like my two. I realize that they are difficult to deal with but, uhm, truth be told they are like my all grown up. I can see him saying, " don't change me. " " I am not a puzzle. " " I don't need a cure. " Waving them off and dismissing them is like dismissing your own child. They have a disability too, and like it or not, they have a voice, they have opinions, and they want to be heard just like you. They may not agree with biomedical interventions and call us (parents) murders and tell us we're abusing our kids by doing the things we do, but they HAVE AN OPINION and you are just dismissing that opinion. Yes, many of them are difficult. Yes, many of them spout off things you don't want to hear. They have that right. My " Do Not Engage " light goes off when that happens. I try not to engage them. (God it's hard though.) Let them speak, and listen, and take it FWIW. They may be misanthropes, but so is my kid. > > > > I don't care too much for the video's author, Kent , aka > " Christschool. Guest guest
Opinions from Neuroinsanity don't count. Neurodiversity exists solely to defend the drug companies. Every idiotic thing they have to say is toward that end. Some of them may have Asperger's but their claims to having autism are questionable. When they decided to start telling us that we were killing our autistic children by curing them, they lost all credibility. These people are very sick bastards who only want to confuse the issue by expecting that anyone is actually dumb enough to " celebrate the joy of autism " . Is there a sane person on the planet who has a problem with curing autism? Autism, not Asperger's, is a severe disability.
Anyone who claims they want to be severely disabled should be cured for their own good. > > > > > > I don't care too much for the video's author, Kent , aka > > " Christschool. Guest guest
, I have no problem with differences in opinion. I have no problem with those who don't want to be cured. I have a problem with the tactics they are using. They cross all boundaries of decency. I do not think that my daughter will grow up to be like Kent or Camille ... Conversely, I know adult asperger's and autistics who support the need for a cure... especially for the 90's kids that are much more severe than the new cases entering the system today. I consider them my friends. And I'm not trying to cure them... > > > > > > I don't care too much for the video's author, Kent , aka > > " Christschool.
