For starters, I'd recommend getting Mandy Aftel's book Essence and

Alchemy.

I personally don't recommend solid perfumes to start. Perfumer's

alcohol is much easier to work with.

You might consider taking Mandy's level 1 course. For it you'd need

to acquire the 18 essences (6 base, 6 middle, 6 top) which are a

foundation that serves as a launching off point. (You can buy those

18 for cheaper than on Mandy's site, like from Liberty Natural, etc.

Not as high quality but cheaper.)

I happen to feel you need an animal scent, so you might think about

buying some ambergris tincture too (profumo.it). Animal scents

generally need a very light touch, like one drop or less than one

drop out of 60.

Start simple: say you want 60 drops of essence in 15ml 190-proof

alcohol. Choose three (say, benzoin in the base, lavender in the

middle, and bergamot on top) and add 20 drops each. Just from one

simple exercise like that you will learn a lot (maybe you want more

benzoin? Maybe more bergamot?). You can also mix together different

essences without alcohol, in a small container, to start getting a

sense of how things mix together scent-wise).

You are at the very tip of an enormous, and endlessly fascinating,

iceberg.

Dear Inga,

I hope that your daughter's surgery went well. We have my 4 year old daughter's

tonsollectimy surgery scheduled for 12/21. I am so nervous. I hope that your

daughter's

fevers do not return.

Best Wishes,

Adry

Inga,

I have been considering on going the surgery route for my daughter as well.? She

is 5, in kindergarten, and has been fevering since at least this summer.? I

started really recording the fevers when school started and noticed a pattern,

every three weeks for three days.? I have?been?hearing about?the large success

rate with the surgery too.??Does the surgery work even though the child has

never had tonsillitis?? My daughter's only symptom is fevers as well.? I would

like to rid the fevers before she gets to the upper grades.? Good luck with the

surgery, I'll keep you in our prayers.??

Hi

Statisctics that I have seen (my ped rheum has shown me studies) suggest that

tonsillectomy works regardless of throat involvement. Emma also never gets a

sore throat with her fevers, not even mouth ulcers. Only fevers, vomiting during

the fever spikes and some joint pain. It's probably a good idea to rule out some

of the genetic syndromes first (HIDS, TRAPS, juvenile arthritis, cyclic

neutropenia etc) before going the surgery route. But at the end of the day it's

your personal decision and if you really feel it might work (like we do) it

might be worth a shot!

Hope this helps

Thanks Adrey - we've had to cancel Emma's surgery because I went into preterm

labour last week and I'm on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy (I am 34

weeks now so not too bad) and wouldn't be able to look after her recovering

properly... we'll have it done in the new year. Good luck for your daughter's

surgery next month!

Take care

Hi Kenny...I'm in Wisconsin and could certainly get one out to you today or

tomorrow via Priority mail for cost of postage...that is usually between

five and eight dollars depending on size of SCOBY and amount of starter

liquid you want.

The one I have ready is a decendant from the Happy Herbalist and has been

raised in RO water and organic sugar and teas. It's a pretty fat SCOBY. :)

Contact me off-list if you are interested....

Thanks Tiff, I knew I could count on someone. I live in Caledonia, that's south

of Potosi. My batch made the trip from Alaska okay, but my friend's wife didn't

know what it was and pitched it. That was in 94', so a bit of instructions would

help. I'd also like to ask the group if anyone has done a search on Kombucha's

origin. I don't remember how I got my first batch, that was in 1993, in Kenai

Alaska, but I remember the paper I got with it. That paper said it was from

Mongolia, being relatives to Alaskan Natives, I thought that was the origin.

Kenny P.S. Thanks again Tiff, I'll write you off list with my address.

Gayle, I live in Wisconsin too and I am looking for a new scoby.

Ideally I'd love to be able to drive and pick one up but it can't be

to far from where I live as I have 2 small children. I live near

Fond Du Lac and, I am in Appleton every week. Do you live near either

of these areas? Also, I am not very familiar with how this group

works and how to find the ongoing list of people offering scobies. I

have found the international list but there are only 2 Wisconsinites

listed. If you have a moment could you (or anyone else for that

matter) please help?

Thank you,

Celia

Welcome Roxanne!

I am an east metro person too. I buy my sprouted spelt flour from

MidValleyVu Farm in Wisconsin. The brand name is Summers. Perhaps you

can find it elsewhere too.

Our daughter had pus on the back of her throat as well sometimes, but not the

closeness of fevers. She was cyclical about 3 - 5 weeks.

Hi Frederic

We have a lot of soapmakers on this group, always looking for tips on

how to keep the scent in the soap so it lasts. What kind of soap do you

manufacture?

Great, Gail, and welcome. You are the exact type of person for whom this list

serves and your

letter was great.

Do let us know the other factors with your products, eg, organic? Free-range?

Grass-

finished? Chemical free? Humane? Where processed? All that kind of stuff.

Also, put your farm offerings in our DATABASE under " farms we like " .

Even if you don't have products ready in time for our SWAP, come anyway, get

acquainted

and pass out price sheets and trifolds about your farm.

im new to the group and thought id introduce myself. im michael and i was diagnosed with aids on dec 16th 2007. it didnt really surprise me when i heard it from my new dr. i replied to him,"well 20 years of whoremongering,im not surprised".....my initial viral load was 246,000 and after 4 months of treatment it is down to 110. my problem right now is that my t-cell count is a mere 46. anyone have any ideas of what i could eat or drink to boost it back up a little? i drink several "boost" supplements daily....i have to mix them with milk because it is too too sweet to drink straight. my doctor told me by his best guess, ive been HIV positive for 10-12 years. i never suspected i had it until dec because i had shown no lesions nor any weight loss.....i found out from him that my lesions are on my white matter on the brain...hmmmm..never had heard of that.....any comments would be appreciated.....,It sounds like your T cells got very low before you sought treatment. Fortunately, the medications can work miracles, even if you start them late. While some people have sudden bursts of T cells from 0 to 1000, this is the exception, and not the rule. When that kind of increase occurs, it is probably re-distribution of t cells from the lymph nodes to the blood, rather than new T cells. Over time, your lymph nodes will be re-populated with new T cells, and your blood counts will rise slowly. It can take years. Be patient. As your t cells increase, your immune function will control those problems on the brain. In the meantime, you may have to take more medications, depending on what they turn out to be. It's good that you finally got diagnosed.I would urge you to tell any of your friends who might be unaware of their status to get tested. It's a far better way to find out and get help. All the best, and welcome.JB
