nancy,

I know exactly what you mean! My daughter is on meds, but is still

unstable in that what I describe to the doctor in terms of severity

and kinds of symptoms can vary drastically from one month to the

next. I tend to forget how bad it was when things are good, and vice

versa. My daughter can't handle much SSRI medication, so there is a

possible underlying mood cycling disorder we may have to deal with--

as she suffers from intermittant depression and I am bipolar as

well. It is also hard if you have a relatively young child because

their natural course of maturing and development can complicate

things. I have so many friends tell me " That's just typical

behavior, my kid does that too. " But I know in my gut that it is not

the same as it is with their kids. Mothers just know certain things,

don't you think? The only advice I have is to maybe try to keep a

chart with daily entries that include symptoms, changes in routine,

illness, and medications and doses if any. This is easier said than

done. I often get sidetracked when things are going well. And often

my chart ends up making no sense, as a lot of the symptoms and

severity are often a matter of my perception and how irritable I am

that day. I am anxious to hear the good advice from others on this

board!

and Stephany,

I think that Stephany's advice is right on!! Some of us have tried

keeping personal journals and then before a visit with the doc, have

take a few minutes to reflect back at comments about our kids.

Personally, i had a binder of info. I divided it into sections for

each kid and recorded their progress in school, with meds, etc...

After a couple of years i thought this was a bit obsessive on my part

- so i tossed the med section!! The doc's charts have the medication

info so why do i need it?

I really rely a lot on my instinct. I also ask the kids when i'm

not comfortable about something. It is hard to know, but that is what

the professionals are there for, no?

Take care, eh?

, I haven't heard of a Marigold EO but there may be such a thing??

What I do for this oil is infuse Calendula petals in oil, I grow my own but

I know they are available at most bulk health food stores. It must be

Calendula tho' not just any marigold. For lipbalm tubes if you are in Canada

try www.oshun.bc.ca or www.essencesupply.com. Isn't this service great!!

Yes, what I need is calendula oil and for some reason I could not think

of that word when I wrote the first e-mail. I found it with one of my

existing suppliers.

Anyway....thanks so much. ;-)

Another newbie, with another request........best selling ideas for craft

markets.

I am attending several summer " festivals " , and in the past have sold mostly

hand-painted articles. This year, I would like to branch into toiletries,

in a smallish way. I had some success at Christmas with fizzy bath bombs,

and would like to make and market some other inexpensive items, like

imbedded soaps, loofa soap, etc. But I would like to " pick " the brains of

those of you who market, and what you have had success with. I live near

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and do not wish to step on any other toes, but

would appreciate any help, and would like to communicate with any local

" soapers " !

hello

> Im completely new to this and would like a receipe for a simple soap using

beeswax and honey(im a beekeeper) . I would like amounts in fluid ozs , also

I dont really understand the SAP is it based on ozs or grams? I also have

access to vegetable fat and NAOH.

...

Great to see you post again!!! How is everyone doing at your place??

I was an inclusion aide to a little boy with DS and Hirschsprungs. He also

had his colon removed and a pull-thru as a very small infant. He is now 12

years old. He was potty trained at age 7. All his MDs said it would never

happen... and his mother believed them and NEVER tried to potty train

him... he did it himself!!!!! Just thought you'd like to hear a success

story!

Cheers!

Hi

's Hirshsprung's has been quite a challenge for us. He goes

through a large number of diapers a day and we have to chnage him

frequently as he suffers from chronic skin inflammation and diaper rash.

We have used every cream and ointment imaginable (some of which have

probably never been used on a kid's bum) But basically now we find that

lots of Desitin (on prescription) and powder seem to keep things under

some control. We also found that by giving him about 3tablespoons of

Prodiem(fiber supplement) a day he tends to have formed stools and goes

less frequently ,mainly at night and in the morning. This means his day

is clear for school(most times). We also give him immodium which seems

to stop working after a while. We have been told that has lost

3/4 of his bowel and may never achieve continence but we will keep

trying. He deserves our efforts!

Mom to and Matt 5 & 6 years old DS etc

Hi Denisa, Sorry about the car trouble. It is a bummer when the car is broke down. Lets hope and Pray for the Depression to stay away. YAAAAAAY

no headaches for a week!!! I use to have headaches Everyday for over 20 years!!! It was terrible. Then they gave me the steroid shots in my head and neck for three months and I take Depakote and AnaproxDS. Now I only get headaches about three to five times a month. To me that is great!

Keep us posted on how you are doing!!!

I've been doing okay physically...no severe headaches in a week or so, but I am trying to fight off a depression.  No matter how diligent I am on my bipolar meds, I still cycle sometimes.  But it's not nearly as bad as when I'm completely off meds.

I'm still kinda stressing over my car.  After the alternator was replaced, it went bad again.  The original owner is going to try to come over and look at it this week.  He's a good friend.  Anyway, my 2nd car is not trustworthy right now and I won't drive it except across the street to grocery store. So, basically, I'm carless right now.  Hopefully my *good* car can be fixed without any major problems.  I cannot afford a garage.  Hopefully it's just the new alternator and I can replace that with just a return of bad one.

Well, enough of my rambles for now.

Hi, I just joined the group tonight and I totally understand about

your headaches. I've suffered from migraines for over ten years (I'm

22 now) and this week I found out I have a pituitary cyst. I was put

on blood pressure medication for my headaches last week, but the

other day I was in tears, I hurt so bad. I also recently started

seeing a chiropractor, which I think helps more than my new

medication. My chiropractor has been working on relieving stress on

the base of my skull because that is where my cyst is located. The

woman is a miracle worker.

B,

I have a 5CM cyst in my skull that are causing my headaches. It has

probably been there since birth, but discovered by accident 3 years ago when

I had meningitis. I have mild cerebral palsy and the damaged part of my

brain filled with spinal fluid. They cannot completely remove the cyst, but

they can put a shunt in to keep it drained. I have had headaches all my

life, but they have gotten worse in the last year. The problem with me is

getting someone to take me seriously...docs treat me like its all

psychosomatic. I know the cyst is there now, therefore my headaches are

worse.

I have just begun the med journey with my headaches. They are trying migraine meds...why I don't know because technically they are not migraines. I've tried Zomig and Maxalt, neither one helped. I have an anti nausea med (phrengran) that I take when my headaches are accompanied by nausea/vomiting...and they often are. That knocks me out and allows me to sleep, therefore the headaches get better. I do not want a narcotic unless absolutely necessary because I'm a recovering addict.

I've been taking verapamil (a blood pressure med) for my headaches

for just over a week and it seems to be making a difference. Of

course, I have been going to the chiropractor quite a bit, so I'm not

sure which is doing more good.

Hi all,

I just wanted to jump in and put in my anti-migraine regimin since we are talking about the subject.

I am curious to see what others take as a prophylaxis, and what their triggers are.

For my migraines, I take a preventive regimen. If I don't forget to take it, I am a gonner. And it does

not take but 1 day to get all messed up. I will also run into migraine triggers now and then where no

preventative medications help. Some of my triggers are Cherries, cherry ice cream, Walmart Bottled

fizzy water--flavored Black Cherry (only) the others are OK. ; Jello brand peanut butter dessert

(gives me ice pick headache every time); aged cheese, the smell of tar and certain paint fumes; fanning

through or speed reading e-mails too fast on the computer; Sun shining directly in my eyes in the

morning and then driving past trees, that cause a disco light effect; smokey rooms or smokey bars;

an overhead flickering florescent light...and especially one where a fan is making the light flash

strobe effect; broken sleep; eye strain, and (don't laugh) holding my bladder too long on trips, etc

Also, forgetting to take my preventive meds. Here's my preventive regimin:

--A beta blocker or a calcium channel blocker. Either one has the same effect. I take Tenormin

(Atenolol ) 50mg every morning (as a beta blocker) but have also used Procardia (a calcium

channel blocker) in the past with great results.

--A Tricyclic Antidepressant, used as a seratonin stabilizer, such as Nortripteline, Amytriptaline, Prozac, etc.

Most any work to stabilize the seratonin in your brain and keep the electrical (mis-firing or neuron

synapses) activity from getting out of control. 1 every morning

--If you are menopausal (like me) use a low dose estrogen. (I take .625) or use a patch

Then you need 2 to 3 weeks for these to get in your system. I believe that blood pressure being

too high will also encourage migraines on some folks.

Should a migraine occur, then I grab the Imitrex (sumatriptan) and knock it out quick.

It comes in a nasal spray, the shots, or pill form.

Also, mine respond well to Ergoloid, Ergostat (sublingual), DHE-45 (which is

dihydro-ergotamine), or any ergotamine based preparation like Cafergot.

What I have found is the key to battling migraines is not waiting too long to take something.

The longer you wait to take something to get rid of the migraine, the longer it takes for

ANYTHING to work.

Ok, well...that's my 2 cents in hopes that it might help someone who is struggling with these

horrible things.

Helen

I've been taking verapamil (a blood pressure med) for my headaches for just over a week and it seems to be making a difference. Of course, I have been going to the chiropractor quite a bit, so I'm not sure which is doing more good. -b

Wow !!! You sure do have a hold on it :o) I too have a lot of triggers, but remembering them is a problem :o) I do wait too long to take something as I am always hoping that they will just go away. Does it always work for you when you take all your meds ??

Helen

(gives me ice pick headache every time); aged cheese, the smell of tar and certain paint fumes; fanning

through or speed reading e-mails too fast on the computer; Sun shining directly in my eyes in the

morning and then driving past trees, that cause a disco light effect; smokey rooms or smokey bars;

an overhead flickering florescent light...and especially one where a fan is making the light flash

strobe effect; broken sleep; eye strain, and (don't laugh) holding my bladder too long on trips, etc
