,

I've done a couple of purchases like this with a kit of things. Sometimes they are good workouts and sometimes they aren't. You just never know until you try it. But if it is a bad one, it gives you something for ebay or a trade! LOL As for the quality of the equipment, again it can be either. Some of them are good and some are bad. My suggestion would be to make sure is says something about it being a burst resistant ball. This way, you are less likely to hurt yourself if it gets punctured during a workout. Most kits won't say, though, so look at the ball. If it is clear or see through but colored, it is NOT burst resistant and I would avoid it. If it is a thicker rubber with a texture, it is burst resistant. Sometimes you will see thicker colored balls but with no texture. They typically are not burst resistant, but it depends on the manufacturer. As for size, you need a 55 cm ball, but don't inflate it to the complete 55 cm. You want to pump it up, plug it, and see if it is the right height for you. When you sit on a ball, with your feet flat on the floor and your knees bent at 90 degrees, your hips and knees should be level. If your hips are higher then your knees, your ball is too tall. If your hips are lower then your knees, your ball is too short. Remove the plug (a staple puller works well for this but you have to be careful with the pointy ones) and inflate or deflate as necessary.

I actually got my most recent ball at Wal-Mart for about $16. It is the Danskin brand and is burst resistant. I replace my ball about once a year because they tend to get squishy from all the bouncing I do on them. If you like a squishy ball, you could probably get away with keeping it longer, but don't expect a ball to be a long term investment because the rubber does wear out even if you don't pop it.

questions

I saw a ball and band video set at Costco today for I think about $14.99 (maybe $19.99?). Anyway, it came with a ball and a band. I didn't see any particular person's name on this (such as in workout by so and so). That brings these two questions:

1. Is this likely to be a worthwhile purchase, at least for the band and ball if not the DVD? (Is the equipment likely to be decent quality?) I have to watch my money closely so if I'm going to buy equipment and videos, they have to be intended to last.

2. Do exercise/pilates balls come in different sizes? I don't remember what this one is but I am under 5 feet tall (just under) and am concerned about getting a ball that is way too big for me to use effectively. If they come in different sizes, can someone recommend the proper size for someone is 4 feet 11 and 3/4 inches tall?

Thanks for any help!

Thank you so much Tonya for taking the time to answer my questions, I know you've got a lot on your plate now. This is exactly what I needed to know about the balls too, I think I'll give it a shot (if it is still there when I go back). Thanks very much!

Good Evening Suzie, I am no doctor, and I don't know what stage you are in. I am ESLD, on Lactulose, four water pills a day, and MUST stay on a strict low salt low protein diet. When the liver does not get the toxins out, and if your not releasing to say it nicely, at least 4 to 5 times a day, my doctor said. Then, it allows these toxins to get into the blood stream, and begins the starting pattern of Encephalopathy. A confusion related complication. I know we all can be so different. -- this is a nice site and people welcome your questions and

comments.

I stick to the basics, but I've heard there ARE indeed certain things

that are not good for you if the sprouts are consumed.

One nice thing here is that you will see a SEARCH box when you visit

the site itself. Put in your search term and answers posted

here will come up as results.

Also check out the web site. They have tons of good

info on sprouting.

Best wishes,

jerry in pennsylvania

ps -- i often tell people that with a some water and a just a pinch

or two of sprouts, you can make a refreshing beverage -- just don't

combine tap (chorinated water) with food substances or teas or

coffee -- here's a good site that tells you why :

Hi ,

Seeds for planting are often covered with nasty fungicides and pesticides. If

you aren't ordering from the net use seeds sold for food, such as sunflower or

peas, that haven't been treated.

LOLI -- near the picture of the green sprouts on the group home

page is a SEARCH BOX -- you can put anything there and it will search

our posts from the past.

I didn't get anything but your recent question for " hydrolized soy " --

so then I put in just HYDRO SOY and I got a lot of past

postings -- try it and you will probably find the one you're looking

for.

Hi Loli;

I'm not sure what you are looking for but could it be this, http://

www.mercola.com/article/soy/avoid_soy.htm .

Bear in mind that Dr. Mercola is pushing his own diet (low carb)

that includes; no soy, no grain, limited legumes and of note to vegans

and vegetarians--includes meat, fish and eggs.

Thank you Leron.. Do you reckon they're lying about the processed soy

effects then? It scares me that I have no means to know whom to believe and

to flip of a coin really to decide who's corrupted and who's not. It becomes

hard to trust anything :-(

Sorry, here, too. There must be a communication gap.

You should be getting only results from past member postings at the

Sprout People site and not any links.

Just in case -- let me try again. Go to www. then to the

Sprout People Groups " welcom page " or " home page " -- just a few

inches under the picture of some very green sprouts (near the top of

the page) is where the search box I'm talking about is.

This site had been going on forever, I think -- there must be

thousands of past postings. Good luck on going through them. I did

look back at some. It gets to be a project researching any subject

online (that's the fun of it, lol). Sometimes here with just getting

only the member posts in results, it gives you a break in that you

don't have to go through every last description on Google, it's " just

us chickens " .

Anyway, sorry if I'm say things that are taking you to a links

(google) search instead. It should just be the mails or postings

from the group that come back as results.

Have you looked at www.bulkfoods.com/nuts.asp I believe they have raw peanuts.

BTW, aren't you worried about the fungus that grows on raw nuts?

I, too, eat only raw and preferrably organic nuts. Peanuts are technically a

legume not a tree nut. Although I personally don't eat peanuts, I've eaten

every possible nut and seed raw and have never had a problem, either.

not sure where you are located well i would def. get a pediatrician and a mental health dr keep them different drs cuz the ped is not trained on every facet of mental health but make sure what ever you do you let your ped know and keep him/her up to date .look in your phone book under mental health and call look for soemthing that deals with autisitc spectrum disorder.... where i am at it is the john merck clinic(pittsburgh area in pa) and they are more up to date on treatment and so forth.that is what you need .since you are new the phone book is okay. but a nice way to meet new people is to see the ones with kids when you grocery shop and start a convo (kil 2 birds with one stone find a freind and find a dr )just tell them u are new here and you are looking for a good dr ( aska few see if there is one that sticks out at u ) also under mental health call up one of them and ask then point black u need a dr who is

well versed in autism and the autism spectrum disorders .you may have to see a few before you find the one that is right for your son and you ..

as to the escaping and that my 2 kids are like that one is autism(11) the other is ok (going to be 4 exerting independence yee haw lol) well you can always ask the land lord if you can put a screen door on the door explain that your son is escaping and you want him safe if he dont allow you try another way( i know it is so hard ).i like u am having dificulities in this with my kids . i have tried a few things gates latches eye hooks and so forth. i als had to latch them in at night at the ols place we lived at for fear he would leave the house or eat soemthign bad ( he would get up at night and eat but didnt understand what was good and what wasnt ) well hopefully threw posting here u (and i) wil find a new way for the escaping to be stopped or averted . goos luck to you on your son ,your new place your at, and to making new freinds .

vickie

questions

OKay.. here's where I'm at in this journey. I have 5 children.

my 4 1/2 year old is the one who we think has autism. he is showing signs of it.

he is a very smart little boy though. he can say the alphabet and count to 50, and lots of other things. but he doesn't converse. He has other little quirks.

I am wondering how some of you have dealt with this. those that have other childen. we homeschool as well so I have all the children all the time.

Isaac is my 4 year old:) he likes to play in the potty. he used to play in his diaper. he was hard to potty train but he is fully wet trained but still goes stinkies in his pants most of the time. he goes to the bathroom to do it but still....

I am not sure how to deal with this. he also doesn't seem to have normal social graces or pick them up like my other children have.

he is the middle child. one of the children younger than him can say please and thank you. I have worked with Isaac on this and he just doesn't get it. he'll say the words but not at the right times:) he can say I'm sorry as well but not when he needs to.

I am just not sure what to do.

I am askign this now because my husband has been working long hours. as in this week he worked 95 hours. so it's me and the kids in a new town and I'm just kind of uncertain where to turn.

I think I mentioned earlier that he has not been tested yet. we do not have insurance right now. soon though, Mark just switched jobs and we have to wait 90 days to get stuff with the new company. it'll be soon though.

but how do I find a DR who is good at this? who will be understanding and not condemning? I really liked our former family DR back in MI he was great but what should look for in a DR that will be a great asset in helping Isaac be his best?

I have more questions but I need to keep up with my kiddos here too!

oh and one other thing. Isaac likes to escape. I have caught him but he has run out our front door, we live in a townhosue. no screen door to slow him down either! at our former home ( we owned a house and now we rent ) we had a screen door. and we used a hook and eye lock on the top and that worked pretty well. he opens the dead bolt here.

and I had a latch on his bedroom door for at bedtime and he'd stay in there but now I do not and he is up wandering all over at all hours. I'm running on empty here. What can I do to keep him safe. and me sane:)

I do have a windchime on the inside of the door as kind of an "Isaac" alert!!

in the meantime.. please pray I meet new people and can get out there to find the right help for Isaac!

I better go

Dear Kathleen, Not sure how to help with everything but here might be a couple of ideas for you to try. Try the hook and eye on his bedroom if you think that might help and keep him safe. WE did that and for a while it worked until he just pulled and pushed on the door until the hook came out, we now have had to put a dead bolt in the door were the door handle goes. Anyway as far as potty training. I had a very hard time training Zachary(my 4 yr old aspie). The doc told me not to worry about it, just act like it doesn't matter to you if he has an accident. Tell him that it goes in the potty, big boys put it in the potty, he is a big boy, and maybe next time he will be able to put it in the potty before he puts it in his pants. We did that with Z for about 2 or 3 months

and now he goes to the potty almost all the time. Isaac is my 4 year old:) he likes to play in the potty. he used to play in his diaper. he was hard to potty train but he is fully wet trained but still goes stinkies in his pants most of the time. he goes to the bathroom to do it but

still.... I have caught him but he has run out our front door, we live in a

townhosue. no screen door to slow him down either! at our former home ( we owned a house and now we rent ) we had a screen door. and we used a hook and eye lock on the top and that worked pretty well. he opens the dead bolt here. and I had a latch on his bedroom door for at bedtime and he'd stay in there but now I do not and he is up wandering all over at all hours. I'm running on empty here. What can I do to keep him safe. and me sane:) I do have a windchime on the inside of the door as kind of an "Isaac" alert!! in the meantime.. please pray I meet new people and can get out there to find the right help for Isaac! I better go Kathleen I love a child with Aspergers Please, read, learn, and love KELLY
