Guest guest
Hi Celia how old is your little girl? and how old was she when she had her first cast. is 21/2 and in her first cast in feb. she get her 2 cast on that great that it has gone down to 13 degrees. talk to ya soon,Bridgette Hi Everyone Hi Everyone,I've been reading your stories and am reminded of the anxiety and stress I felt when I first discovered that my daughter, Deirdere had infantile scoliosis. However, in my case I wasn't really prepared to learn that she had a sixty degree curve. At least most of you have time to figure out what to do. Two weeks after the diagnosis, she was placed in her first cast. This was done to stabilize her spine and the medical objective was to delay surgery for as long as possible. I too, did a lot of research on the internet to find the "cure". Of course I came across 's website and saw what the scoliosis could do to a child. The prospect of Deirdre's curve progressing to the mid nineties scared me to death. I was happy to learn about the Halo traction which was being offered at Shriners. I thought at the time that Deirdre may eventually been a candidate for that procedure. I also read the S.A.U.K website and saw the x-ray pictures of a young child who had been treated with serial plaster casts for a period of two years. The results were remarkable. The child was now straight. I asked about her experiences with casts and was told that they were "supreme" to bracing .... so, I insisted with my child's doctor that he keep her in the cast until September when she could have another cast change. He complied. This doctor has saved my daughter's life, he has given her a second chance at a normal life. Today, twenty months after the initial diagnosis and twenty months of serial casting, her curve is at 13 degrees !!!We hope that Deirdre will be able to go into a brace in the fall once her spine is more stable. The only advise I can offer all the moms currently struggling to find a doctor who will cast is, don't give up !!! Remember that doctors are human too, you have to relate to them on a human level. If they don't agree with you, try to convince them. Do whatever you can. There are alot of great doctors out there. I think the barrier to casting is PERCEPTION. I too, was fearful of the prospect of my daughter going into a cast. It's hard enough trying to convince a parent to cast their child let alone a doctor. I live in Canada, the weather is mainly cooler, so casting doesn't have to be hot and uncomfortable for the child. Try to convince a parent who lives near the equator to cast. Guest guest
Betty, I have a couple of other belly dance tapes and IMHO Veena ans Neena are the best. I'm going to keep looking for other tapes though just for variety. Just an FYI the Buns and Abs tapes do some toning exercise and are not all dance. a > > hi EVERYONE > > i know my last message i posted WASTED a message, but instead a BOOK! > actually paula the only veena & neena videos i have are the " slim down " tape and " basic dance " however next week i'm ordering the mystic dance, beyond basic dance and the fitness hips, buns & thighs videos. my goal is to purchase ALL of the belly twins videos before 2004 is over. > i was thinking about maybe purchasing another belly dance instructor video other than the belly twins but personally i'll rather not waste my time & money on another video i may not be as satisfied with. especially since i really enjoy learning from veena & neena because their videos are classy, professional and very easy to understand and learn. > i still can't believe how toned my body has now become just by setting aside a hour a day with one of my belly dancing videos. i'm having so much fun that even though i'm a beginner & only know a couple moves; i make up my own belly dancing routines just for the fun of it. i can't say it enough on how belly dancing has helped me " relieve " so much stress and continues to tone me from head to toe. > as i mentioned before EVERY woman should belly dance EVERY SINGLE day just as i do, and i promise you will be improved mentally & physically. for the past month now i have never left my home without doing two things, 1) reading my Bible and 2) belly dancing because when doing this; i AM more confident and prepared to deal with " the world. I was back in shape, in fact BETTER shape, when I found out about my daughter coming. SHE was the one who did me in! I retained so much water with my son, it was ridicules, but with her, oh my stars! It was actually funny to see what was gonna be bigger from day to day, boobs or tummy...LOL I had c-sections with both, so that didn't help. My Dr was old and he did the old, up and down cut, no nice bikini cut for me I work hard to stay in the best shape I can, but still battle the 'soft' tummy as I call it and my boobs will NEVER be the same. I'm waiting to win the lottery to have them fixed...LOL Keep on keepin' on hon, take your time, learn the technique, and you'll see results! Guest guest
Hi Dar and welcome! You will not find a more comforting or supporting group of people then on this list. One thing that I make sure I do is always put my hands on my abdomen. I want to make sure that my diaphragm is doing the breathing and not my chest. Here is a way to see if what your doing is right. If you lay flat on the floor, one way to make sure you are doing your breathing right is to place a book on your abdomen. When you breath out....your deep breath out through the golden straw, the book should slowly drop into the hollow of your abdomen (or in my case where the hollow should be LOL). When you breath in (your heavy sniffing through the nose) the book should rise. If it doesn't, you are breathing through your lungs only. If the book goes up your doing it right When you " pahhhhhhhhh " the book should drop. If the book drops during your " pahhhhhhhhhhh " then you are doing your pah right. Does that make sense? It's not how loud, or how correct sounding the pahh is, but rather whether you are doing the breathing right. If you do the breathing right the pah will just come naturally. Also remember it is not forceful....it shouldn't hurt and it should relax your body not tighten it up. We have a tendency to tighten up the shoulders when we are breathing this way, make sure you don't do that Oh! Also make sure that your back is flat on the floor when you try this...don't bow your back. You basically want your belly button to touch your backbone tee hee with love, Jenni Proud Air Force Mom! I am having a little trouble getting my exhale done properly (the puh part). Did anyone else have that problem to start with. If so, any ideas on how to get it right? Rashelle gave me some tips but just wondered if anyone else came up with any little tips or tricks to get it right. Should I be bent over to do it properly? Any ideas would be gratefully accepted. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, Our wants in the breast dept are different. I want mine 'filled' back up, {They look like flat blobs to me. I don't think just a lift will do the job} and depending what that does, I'd like to be a bit bigger. Insurance won't pay for that. I was never that big, 34 B. It's an OK size, but... Thanks for the info tho. Kiki

After my daughter, it didn't work like that, took me a few month to get it off. I've never heard of the kind of tubel {<~~~that doesn't look right...LOL} you had. Guest guest
Well, my baby is 19-1/2 years old -- and I'm STILL blaming her for the loss of my " hollow " LOL! I do think having 6 kids does something rather permanent to your shape, but I don't think it can be used as a forever excuse.... But good news -- I now have a " dent " (small but really there) in my belly, maybe that's where some fat is being converted to muscle??? (the " dent " is not very deep, and is on the right side -- but even my husband can see it!). And, I can always " hold my tummy in " -- what with the LL breathing/exercises and the use of probiotics -- no more bloated, painful belly!!! This is so very, very nice -- I used to have really painful bloating, couldn't " hold my belly in " , it was too painful. Comments and/or " expert " opinion, please: I've added the following exercises to my standard LL ones: 1. laying down, knees bent, after the pah and with stomach lift: crunch 2. laying down, legs in a Z, after the pah and with stomach lift: crunch] 3. laying down, legs straight, after the pah and with stomach lift: lift legs, shoulders, arms (like a leg lift) I do 6 reps of the above 3, and the third one is HARD -- I remember back when I was young and I could do leg lifts all day long if I chose.... Guest guest
Can you tell me what ROFL means??? Thanks. My 3 kids did a bit to my figure as did getting my tubes tied the old way (cut vertically down the belly). But the worst was when I quit smoking 12 years ago and gained 60 pounds! Isn't that terrible? I should have worked harder at getting it off while I was younger as now, at 52, it is harder to get rid of it. I also have arthritis so it makes it harder to do ordinary exercise. That's why I sent for LL and I'm hoping it helps. Right now I am too busy to get right into it, but I am practicing the breathing itself and hope to start the rest soon. I will try the suggestion about lying on the floor with a book. Thanks again. Guest guest
Thanks for another warm welcome, I love this group already. I had my first two 18 months apart and then the next one was 4 years later. I had just gotten back into a size 6 when I got pregnant with him!!! Never seen that number 6 since - ROTFL!!!! I weighed 120 after all 3 and then gained the 60 lbs after quitting smoking (smoked for 23 years! - talk about bad for you, eh? - Yes, I am from Canada and we're known for saying eh all the time!!!) Sounds like the Csection cut is the same as what they gave me -separates my whole tummy into two sections of flab. I'm looking forward to getting in shape and I'm sure the extra oxygen will help my whole body and everything that is wrong with it should get a little boost as well. Take care. Guest guest
Hi Kiki, I had breast-reduction surgery (in April) and it was absolutely one of the best things I've ever done for my body -- my husband says that I look like a perky 20-year-old (I'm 60)... And you don't have to win the lottery to do it -- my total cost was $58, everything else was covered by insurance. (Well, I guess the new bras and smaller tops cost me a bit, too...LOL.) I went from spilling out of a 34-E to a neat little 34C (and there's a BIG difference, check out some smaller bras and look out the cup-size difference). If you have discomfort, backaches, posture problems, etc., you can find a plastic surgeon on your insurance list who will work with you to get insurance coverage.... Guest guest
Hi again Dar, Don't you just love someone who has a comment for everything LOL! First off, LOL - Laughing out loud ROFL - Rolling on the floor laughing. I have a vertical scar also from when they did my appendix the old way. I'm 49. I too gained a ton of weight from quitting smoking...about 20 pounds but that was added to the 30 I had already gained from being lazy with my body. I also have arthritis and I can tell you the breathing is the BEST for this. One thing that people don't focus on is the benefits from breathing. Rashelle will tell you this herself...in fact if you do a search on the list you will see where she discussed that just recently. I breath for my health. Losing the weight is just an extra for me. I like the way my body looks when I breath. I like the way I feel when I breath. I like how my body responds to my breathing. If I lose weight along with it then that is just an extra benefit. I don't speak of it as much because many people on this list are here to lose weight and that is just great! But there is so much more to LifeLift breathing than that. Practicing the breaths, or just doing them regularly will show you in time how much better you feel. If nothing else you will enjoy so much more energy when you breath! Guest guest
I'm a firm believer in herbs and natural! I've been put on drugs for a 'mental' problem, but they only work so long and then you have to go stronger. I was on VERY strong meds and I just didn't like feeling no emotion, not caring about anything. I've got an arsenal of natural products now that seem to be working and I actually feel emotions! I'm on who refuses to believe as Drs would have us, that they are gods and know everything and drugs are the way to go! It's all a guessing game...
