Someone may have had later contact with her, so a closer date may come to you yet. I'm very sorry for your loss. If you need support please let me or the group know. I sent you a private email to the email address you provided. I hope this gets resolved for you. If you find a date, please let me know so I can dedicate a memorial day to her. Marcie,

Do these bathroom rituals happen only in the middle of the night?

What does he do during the day? I am sure that he is tired at 11 pm

so that's why it is so extreme then, and it usually does no good to

battle OCD at that time. But I would definitely suggest working on it

during the day if possible when everyone is better able to handle it.

When he gets up at 11 is it because he has to go? Is there any way he

could make it through the night? This is probably stuff you've already

tried, but how about limiting drinks before bed? Making sure he goes

right before bed?

nna.

I would remain consistent. He may respond a little better tonight.

Also, be careful not to show your own anger or respond to his temper

in any extreme way. ou are doing the right thing.

As for your 6 yr old, perhaps you can try to explain that this is only

temporary and that her brother has a hard time with his feelings

sometimes. Try to carve out some alone time with her.

I have a similar situation in my house (a son with OCD and a younger

daughter not affected). It is tough on everyone, but everyone can

learn from it too. You can't change your family and your siblings are

lucky to have each other.

Best wishes,

Bonnie

Hi Marcie, welcome! My son has OCD and will be 17 this

month. His OCD began around age 11.5 at the start of 6th grade.

went through quite a few behaviors those first months that

later faded. Seemed like something new would pop up, something

would go away, and some stayed around.

How long has your son been on the medication? It varies with

people, but it can take weeks for a good therapeutic level of med to

build up to really kick in and begin helping. And some people say

if OCD seems to worsen right after beginning the medication, that

can be a sign it will help. So hang in there a bit longer if he

hasn't been on the medication long.

What's your son doing with the bathroom tissue? Is he cleaning or

wiping or...? You might try to find a calm time of day to talk with

him about this if you plan to limit the amount of tissue in there.

Does his therapist have your son working on particular behaviors?

You might speak to the therapist about this OCD problem and see what

he/she says, it might be something the therapist can put into their

current treatment plan.

Some things my sons did included having to turn things on/off

repeatedly. That could be a light switch, the water, his GameBoy

switch, the computer switch (he was NOT allowed to turn it on, LOL,

had to get someone else to). He got so he refused to use the TV

remote and would ask others to change the channel as he was afraid

he would get " stuck " repeatedly scrolling through channels or

something.

My son also at times would do some " hop " or turn or twist.

Sometimes he'd go back down the hall or stairs to " do over. " At one

time he would do what I called " mumbling " as it seemed he was either

mumbling/talking to himself or maybe making noises, like

a " ummmm... " . It was enough that I if I was near I'd ask him what

he said. I never did figure out if it was words or just a noise or

what. That eventually stopped.

Anyway, to shorten the length of this, LOL, he is doing great these

days. OCD has been so far in the background for quite a while now

that it's no longer interfering with daily life, family, etc. It's

still " there " (I did a recent post on that) but sooooo much in the

background. And there have been periods over the years when *I*

thought it was *gone* things were so well, but said it was

still there.

We didn't have a therapist to work with him, but did things on our

own. We picked what seemed easier for him to work on in the

beginning. Like switches. Worked on turning it on/off just once.

If he felt the urge to do it again, then he was to try and delay

doing it again, whether for a count of 1 or a count of 10. The

light switch turned out to be easy for him, the others like the

water took longer. And then the TV remote. I FINALLY (after

months) got him to begin to just push the number buttons for the

channel he wanted. So he did that for a while (wasn't every time)

and then eventually he got back to the up/down channel button. Now

for us some things took longer and other things seemed almost easy.

And yes, sometimes something new popped up. But once he began to

conquer/get past a few of his behaviors we worked on, things seemed

to progress better except for some of the harder, more long-lasting

behaviors. But a few to work on was much better than all those he

had in the beginning!

Well, this is long after all, sorry! But take hope, things seemed

pretty hopeless for us in the beginning too, but do get better!

single mom, 3 sons

, almost 17, with OCD, dysgraphia and Aspergers(autism)

, twin to above (not identical)

My pediatrician always told me not to wake my son when he had the night

terrors. He had them at age 3 and lasted until about age 5. They would

last sometimes up to an hour, and always in the middle of the night - 2am to

4am. I always felt so bad for him when he was going through them but we

listened to the advice of his dr. We have switched drs since then and are

thankful that he doesn't go through those anymore. I learn something new

just about every time I read some posts on this site.

Hi, I am from the Fingerlakes area. Just a bit North of Canadaigua. Well,in

the summer I spend most of my time in a little town called Inlet, just North

of Old Forge. The Fall and winter is spend around Lake Placid area. Now that

the kids are grown and gone, we spend alot of time in my " Ramada on Wheels " .

I am hoping to find someone around close by to share soap making with.

Anyhow, it is getting late and I really have to get some housework done

before my pet Dust bunnies turn into Roaring Elephants.

Have a good night all.

Hi , I am so happy to find there are soap makers in Blue Mountain. I go

through there a couple times a month in the winter and spend most of my

summer either at Limekiln lake in Inlet or over at Rollins ponds in Tupper. I

love

the mountains not only for soapmaking ( the air has to be the difference) but

also because I love to go there to paint. It is like a piece of heaven.

My father lives in Ontario. This is such a small world. The 15th of July is

when my step son gets married. Believe me, I would much rather go to a soap

get togther than go to this wedding.

I bet you do go by me. I am only about a mile off the Thruway and real close

to the " Evil Spot " - the Casino. hehehhhehe

I did see someone who x-rayed Ian when we thought he was stable. But, we don't

see her anymore. She was clueless about the casting procedure and made errors

in her own reports about Ian's curve (I had to correct her), so needless to say

we aren't seeing her anymore. We have no need anyway since we are going to

Shriners every other month. We also saw another ortho before that lady and

didn't like him either (although he probably he is more knowledgeable about

scoli, he didn't know about the casting either and had a terrible bedside

manner).

Noelle (12-2-01)

Ian (8-15-04)

THANK YOU

& ,

Dr. Kory is h's doctor here in Erie. I think the reason

more Shriners are not doing serial casting is because these 2 facilities have

doctors who were trained under Dr. Mehta. I have heard so many nice things about

her. I do hope more Shriners become educated and start this procedure. It looks

like some of the risser casts goes all the way up to their chin. Joy in CA

daughter has a risser cast and it goes down past one thigh to straighten her

hips. I guess every doctor is going to have their own method. Grenville, SC

is more than 8 hrs away from MS. I believe you travel more than 8 hrs

with Ian for his casting. Do you have a doctor there who monitors Ian while he

is in the cast. I think h's mom is going to try and get the doctors here

to consult with the doctors there to keep up with the casting.

Thank you for the input.

, can you at least convince h's Mum to let Erie do the first cast and

then hopefully the correction will be so good that she will want to keep taking

her there rather than where she is. Show her some of the results these other

kids are getting and maybe she will let you keep her in Erie at least until the

casting is over.

It's worth a try.

Well then, I shouldn't say Rochester, I should say Henrietta, so as not to

be misleading. :-) It is fun to meet up. Too bad you can't join us for our

state gathering in July. However, we also meet for lunch once in awhile, so

that might work for you.
