Cheryl in CT,

Wow, you really are sick! I hope that 's strep goes away quickly. I

have enough trouble remembering the morning and evening meds, I would have

to write it down if someone had to take anti-biotics here!!!

The best part of the Kraft dinner story with is that you fooled her

and you all laughed!! Use the humour - it sure works!

I, too, buy what is the cheapest - usually a bag of noodles and a

container of the cheese powder! I cringe thinking what's in it!!

Feel better!

Hi Kathy,

Funny you should mention the broad spectrum lighting. We have one and it

was suggested that we attach it to the wall near the kitchen and eating area

so that everyone is getting a dose on a regular basis! If we get the

solarium into gear soon, we'll also have the added warmth of the real sun! I

just wish that I could get a tan from the broad spectrum light and not just

have this excessively bright light around!!

<...Some researchers are looking at the comorbidity of SAD (seasonal

affective disorder) and OCD....>

Great to hear that Steve has friends with him in his class. Its also

interesting that he is questioning his need for a 504 plan. This morning I

spoke with Ziv's school principal. the social workers dont begin until sept.

1st, like everyone else. I wonder which beaurocrat thought of that idea?

Hopefully I will speak to her teacher before school. Adi's school is next.

They are so disorganized that I dread calling. Even the phone system doesnt

work well!!!

HI Cheryl:

Sorry to hear you might have Lyme disease. I wish you a speedy recovery.

How is managing with her strep throat? Does it make her OCD symptoms

worse? I have read this happens for some kids. For Steve, strangely

enough, when he gets a cold or flu, other than being crabby and ill his OCD

seems to go a bit in the background.

YOu might try your cat on kitty prozac for her winter TTM. It must be cold

for her in the Connecticut winter. Some researchers are looking at the

comorbidity of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and OCD. Perhaps the

light therapy that people find useful for SAD might help your kitty.

Take care, aloha, Kathy (ha)

Hi :

A solarium for the lattitude-challenged sounds wonderful. (sorry shouldn't

rub in my sub-tropical location with winter approaching.)

Good luck with the disorganized school system. Sometimes this creates its

own opportunities. I think if we were dealing with an organized system

here, rather than the knee-jerk responsiveness resulting from the Felix

class action law suit, we probably would not have been as readily able to

call the shots on what we wanted for Steve. When they are disorganized,

once they trust you, they will look to you to design a solution and you can

let your creativity run free. This is probably extra true for you as you

will be seen as an allied professional.

Right now I am prepping (another allied professional) to present at

the 504 meeting tomorrow. It always comes better from him than me as

usually the schools deal with the mom. Steve's case coordinator cannot

come as her case load has been increased 2x - it was 60 mostly high-end

kids before this increase. Poor thing, she has been very helpful as she

has a background in protection and advocacy and has gone a bit " native " on

helping parents get state support for their kids with NBDs.

Good luck dealing with Ziv's school, the more disorganized they are the

more organized we have to be. Please keep us posted on progress. Take

care, aloha, Kathy (Ha)

Hi Kim;

Your son sounds alot like mine. (ds) spent the first five

months of his life in the hospital too. was tube fed for quite a

while as well. We were taught how to put the tube in ourselves. He was

NG-tube fed and the G-tube was recommended many a times. I know of other

moms of children with ds that have G-tubes...if you are interested in

talking with any of them....I know its not very common in ds. My son spent

so much time in the hospital because he was born at 27 weeks

gestation....2lbs 6oz. His twin, spent 3 months (2lbs 3oz).

Glad your on the list;

Hi ,

is fed through a G-tube which was placed when he was 5 mos old. Until

that time he did have a NG tube which we learned how to place also. That was

pretty hard to do for us, he hated it so much. I would be interested in

talking to other parents that are or have experienced tube feedings. We are

trying so hard to get him off and onto foods. He is clear to take everything

by mouth except thin liquids (milk, juice etc). He is still guarded for

aspiration with thin liquids, but we can thicken them with Thickit so he can

drink them then. 's problem is he has never had to orally eat for

survival so he thinks it is just a game. He eats about 4 bites and then he

thinks it is play time. I don't know what to do, neither does his ot. How did

you get off the tube? Does anyone have any suggestions??

Hi Kim....

My daughter Skylar(ds)8 months

has a g-tube which will be coming out in about 3 weeks

as far as we know......She had it put in in NICU before she

came home because she didnt have a good suck, swallow & breath tech.

due to being premie & having ds....Poor girl got a double whammy...

Have you tried to let him eat on demand(when he's hungry) & not given a tube

feeding & see how he did on the next feeding? They say that a child who is

tube feed alot doesnt get the hunger feeling.....

Hi Kim;

had his NG-tube placed until he was 6 months old. The feeding

team wanted him to have a G-tube but my husband and I refused....and I am

glad that we did. was fairly easy with having the tube put in....it

was almost as if he wanted it in, because that ment he didn't have to drink

on his own. We thickened up 's formula as well to Similac 30 (don't

know if that means anything to you). We took 's tube out a few times

and let him starve...so he would know what it was like to feel hungy. I

think he went 30 hours one time and then we gave up and put the tube back

in. It was a LONG drawn out process...it took until just a few months ago

before would take his bottles (with a sippy cup nipple on it) on his

own, without a fight. But even when we NG-tube fed him, we tried getting

him to take his bottles on his own as well. has had several barrium

swallows done that showed no physical reasons as to why he refused his

bottles. 23 months is kinda old to be starting to introduce foods. Has

been given bottles/food along with his G-tube or just strickly G-tube

fed? We have never had any problems with solids, we introduced them early

since we weren't getting much liquid into him. LOVES his food and

eats everything his twin does. How did we get off of the

tube?....well, at 6 months we took it out and refused to put it back in.

There were ALOT of times that I was temped to put it back in but we didn't

and I am glad we didn't. It took alot of time and effort. There were days

when he would only take 5 oz but we also filled him up with yoguart (which

we loved). I have a friend named Jill who has a 4 yr old son named Lewy.

Lewy had a G-tube for a LONG time. She would probably be able to give you

some more ideas then I can because I think they didn't introduce

solids/liquids until he was older. I THINK the tube is out now....the dr's

kept saying it was going to come out and then it wouldn't....I can't recall

as to weather it finally did come out or not. I will try and e-mail her. I

haven't talked with her in a while because she was having some computer

problems.

Hello sweet Tami,

It was so nice to talk to you too. I just get a little concerned about you knowing you have some very special and unusual health problems. I was not sure if I should call you, but I just had to hear your voice to know you were ok. Kidneys are not something to fool with, and knowing you only have one functioning made me feel very concerned. I feel better after talking to you. By the way, your voice is as sweet as you are.

As for your article, you sound like you just need to get some rest and take some time to heal, I sense the feeling that are coming up are from not feeling well. I am certain that your article is wonderful. Everything you write is beautiful, straight from you heart and I am sure that it will be a gift to all who read it. I am praying for you to be back to perfect health soon. Please take care of yourself.

Love and a huge hug,

Mamma Rashelle

Patti,

Thank you so much for taking the time to show your appreciation to for this. It really is incredible for her to offer to give of her own time to this. I am certain it had to make her feel good to know that she is making such a difference for you.

I appreciate Karma and Tami so much for creating this contest in the first place. It makes me feel that it would be a good idea to do something ongoing in the future. I was thinking maybe a 3 month contest would be great next time. That gives everyone enough time to really build the habits that will insure long term success. That is what we are all after and anything I can do to encourage that will be worth the effort.

Good luck to all who participated in the contest, I think you are all so great.

Love,

Angel, you've got to change your attitude about yourself first. How

can anyone named Angel not like themselves? For starters, tell

yourself that you are going to forget about the past...it's over and

no point wasting energy over it. Second, if looking in the mirror

upsets you, then don't for awhile. Stop focusing on what's on the

outside and start loving what's on the inside. I was beating myself

up too a few months back and changed my diet and do LL everymorning

and some pelvic tilts in the car. In less than three months I went

from probably a size 10 to an 8 and my 8's are baggy now. But I

could have not done this if I didn't feel in control and good about

myself. I told my husband back in February that I was going to start

taking control of my life back. Now I'm so fortunate that I do have

the best guy in my life so he never said a word when he heard me

Pahhhing away in our exercise room and when I would fire up the

juicer all day long. But now I do hear plenty from him....wonderful

things like...I thought after 11 years of marriage you were suppose

to look frumpy & dare I say the other day he watched me put on my

lotion the other day when he was waiting for me to get dressed so we

could go out. I had on panties and my bra and I felt so good about

myself knowing he was watching me do this. Best compliment was when

I was done he jokingly said, " Darn, you mean you're going to get

dressed now? " Point is try to get the support of your family during

this time. Not that they need to be drill sergeants if you don't do

everything on some days but that they won't be there waving ice cream

and junk in your face saying, " Oh just cheat this one time " . I think

LL will not only get you in shape but mentally, it's very relaxing,

especially if you do pretend on the exhales that you are getting rid

of the bad things. Good luck.

I just love this message!!!

What it says is that you do have control. Look closely everyone. A few months ago she made the focused decision to change what she did not like, and loved herself enough to allow the changes to take place. Yes! I say this is great stuff here!

As for looking in the mirror, Angel, look at yourself but focus on what you really like best about yourself and then build on that. Even if it is just the light reflecting from your eyes, see the beauty there and say to yourself. "I love you just as you are" I you force yourself to do this daily, you will be surprised at how good you will feel. You may feel very silly at first, but who cares. This is all for you and you do deserve to feel good!

The way to take control to have what you really want is to change the focus. If I am sitting thinking and a bad thought enters my mind, I make a concentrated effort to change the focus to think of what makes me feel good. Example, if you are looking in the mirror and you get a bad thought, say out loud to the thought, "Go away" then imagine yourself doing something that makes you feel good. Look at yourself and say, "I release (whatever you don't like) and then say "I claim my beautiful body.", or I claim my beautiful skin, or whatever feels good to you.

Practice does make perfect, so you have to do this daily. It can be a really fun exercise to do. You will end up feeling much better about yourself after you have done this a few times. Then the good stuff happens. When you start having those positive things flood your mind the negative ones will leave. This is when you will start to see the changes you really want for yourself. It is true, the first step is to learn to love yourself as you are, so you can go forward to be the best you can be.

Take good care of yourself, you do deserve to have your dreams come true.

Love,

Rashelle

Hi Angel,

I was reading through my e-mail and I had to respond to yours first

thing. First of all, don't have a negative attitude about yourself

because you are beautiful no matter what your size is. This took a long

time for me to learn but it's so true. You seem like a very sweet

person. Yes Lifelift will work. It has helped me so much through

losing inches and pounds but also with the bad attitude. The breaths

will release tension and make you feel better. I have to say though

that nothing will change until you think positive. Yes you might have

initial success but it won't be lasting. Think positive and positive

things will come! Just remember that you have support now that you have

joined this list. We are here for you!

Angel,

I don't think you've ever been lied to . I think any plan is what you put into it. There are some who say this is the greatest and have extremely quick results. I'm one of those who find it very hard to loose weight. Short of eating once a day, the pounds and inches come off extremely slow. This weekend didn't help much at all because I REALLY fell off the wagon. Now it's Monday, and I'm doing my best to recoop all my hard worked efforts. I think if you put your mind to it, and do your best, watch what you eat and drink your water, I think you will see results. I'm not saying to diet, just make good food choices when you do eat. I wish you well and we are all here to support one another. One of us will get back to you with advice if you need it or alternate positions, or anything else that you may need. We welcome you with open arms, we look forward to hearing your problems or successes, and any input that you think may help someone else. Have a great day.

Wanda,

I am REALLY proud of you. Your attitude is what will turn this around for you.

Be sure you are eating every few hours, even if it is only a piece of fruit or a few carrots. Don't let your body run out of fuel to get that metabolism fueled.

If you can practice the few steps necessary, enough oxygen, enough water, and enough food, fuel, your body will start to respond to all of your efforts in a way that will please and surprise you. It will reward you for giving it what it needs to be happy.

You can do this, I am sure of it. Your kindness is encouraging others will be re paid when you start seeing the fruits of your labor.

I am sure of it.

.. Have a great day.

thank you everyone for the kind welcome. i am so very desperate to lose a few inches and pounds. i have been trying for a very long time to get down to a size 8, but have had no sucsess. is there anyone else out there that is a hard losing case? will this work for me also? it is very difficult to feel so badly about yourself, and look in the mirror and see that horrible body, plain as can be. i am so depressed about this situation, i would love any help. i am willing to try almost anything to loss this size 12 body.you may not hear much from me for a while, i will only read, until i have learned a little more and am seeing some results. i sure hope this is for real, it would be the last straw if i have been lied to again.sincerely, angel

I am glad you like the links Nerys. I guess you can say this is my

therapy. I do spend hours. I don't spend the time worring, and my pain

seems less, I zone out on the internet. LOL

I am still having trouble today but it has eased. I am having a time

with my asthma and my back pain.

Take care dear ones,

Dorie
