What a wonderful encouraging letter. Thank you and I would love to go to the Civil war sites. I live on the other side of the country and am very drawn to your area. Brigit

My girlfriend thinks she has Asperger's Syndrome. Are you saying you and your husband and your child have it. I've had severe manic depression for many years. Meds and many other health factors have caused my weight to sky rocket. I quit smoking three years ago and gained 30 right off the bat. I know over eating is a key factor in weight gain and emotional eating has been at the fore front all my life. But I'm eating so much less than I use to and exercise more and still have such a time losing the weight. This group is helping me to not give up. Take care, Brigit

Thanks, Tema and Brigit,

We have a long way to go (or we would be on a list called 10 or less). But we will get there.

I had this guy in a meeting that said he had never failed at anything. He had setbacks, he has learning opportunities, he has had lessons, he has had opportunities for improvement and challenges. While annoying, it is an inspiring attitude. He mentioned a book called "Hung by the Tongue". I have not read it, but hope to some day (along with the other million books I already have in my house.)

Brigit,

I am in Hampton Virginia, just an hour drive from Richmond.

The Civil War isn't my thing. My husband works Saturdays and only has Sundays off with our son and I. We never do anything as a family but eat out so I have decided that we are going to start having family fun days. I have collected tourist brochures of area - local and cross state - sites that would interest all three of us and we are taking turns picking a place to go. We won't go somewhere every weekend, but at least every couple of weekends. And we will have some family thing to look forward to all the time. (My son is 10 and there is already a disconnect between him and his father. All three of us have Asperger's Syndrome which is a form of Autism, so social interaction is not a strong point with us anyway.)

Next Saturday is my choice - the Virginia Renaissance Festival. My son is trying to decide between the go cart place or the zoo.

You go girl! I love your attitude. We need to get out there and enjoy life

as much as we can at any weight. Water is a fat girl's friend. :)

My sister is 158 and 5 feet tall. Even she is self conscious in a swim suit

even though she's chubby and not obese. I'll hang out with her and make her

feel skinny. :)

I gave in about 3 yrs ago when we started going on vacation to places that had indoor pools. I figured I shouldn't let the kids time be ruined. So I bought a suit.

Sundays are family day here in NH as well. We usually do something together. Watch a race on tv, go to the mountains, go for a car ride where we have not been, play outside, or just as long as we are together.

Hi ,

What are you going to do for exercise? You need to slowly build up some

endurance for those field trips. :) Do you have access to water aerobics?

Can you start walking to the end of your street and back? If that is too

much you might want to start with Chair Dancing aerobics or some program for

people with mobility issues. You can do this! Just start slowly and your

body will respond.

Dont worry about me watching you. I tried core and could not stick with it. I do flex. Looks like you made great choices. Just think if you were not thinking what kind of choices you would of made.

That sounds so healthy, I've really been into diet Ginger Ale lately. brigit

All three of us, hubby, child and I. Our son is diagnosed, but I can tell you every experience he is having because I have already lived it. The thing about Asperger's is that you are intelligent, but you have trouble with social interactions. I am so nigh-eve (I cannot even spell it - sorry.) The larger the group in the room the less I can communicate. I love email. I cannot see anyone so I can communicate fine. If we were all in a room, I would never speak.

Meds are horrible when they knock your chemistry off balance.

BeckyHi and thank you for the post. I am going to join my YMCA again soon. They do not however offer any water aerobics classes as of yet. They are just putting in a new pool and indoor pool. When I was a memeber before they started that project though I used to swim with my boys. Watching them and keeping them from drowning I was always moving in the water. After our memebership ran out and I stopped that is when I noticed that my back hurt and I could not walk as far anymore so I know that the water is what helped. I hope to start back doing that soon. Thanks for the post and good luck to you.

No problem. I usually hide in the corner. keeps kicking me out and I miss posts (twice last weekend). I try to catch what I miss online, but there can be so many. If I don't respond to something you think I should, call me out or send email direct - just ID yourself (SO many spams).

I did not want you to think you were alone. We are all working along together.

Back to my corner now.

Hello Lolo,

Where are you from? I have a 10 year old boy with AS. What sort of school issues have you had???? Hope to hear back from you.

I live in Ontario,Canada.

We have had all kinds of school issues. Last year, my kid was

bullied, and then after that he thought that the way it had been taken

with the kid who had bullied him was not fair. He started after that

to lose trust in the school authority. He has a lot of bad

experiences with the teachers who did not understand why he was

talking only about subjects that interest him. Also, he is always

putting his head on the desk when he is bored. Issues with a chronic

lack of organization and bad writing.

This year,he was very disappointed by some of the teachers who did

not know their topics, he was completely turned off, refused to give

back his work. The school says that he refuses help from the guidance

counsellor, but to him he does not need any help because he does not

know the subject. It is a battle, they said that they will not help

him, because he does not want to collaborate with them,it is kind of

a vicious circle.

Time for you to go to the school district or school board... That is ridiculous their refusing to help him. There are ways to do it. They are being lazy.
