My apologies to all weight watchers fans but everyone I know who has

done WW didn't lose any weight. Too much weighing and counting and

complication. Stick with BFL and you'll see results much faster and

permanent.

Odd. All the people I know on WW in the last year or two have lost a

ton of weight. They have not, however gained much muscle, and they

don't look really " fit. "

From what I've seen of how WW works now, you can kind of work BFL and

the two together, but you will be cheeting each of them of their

intent. My adivse is that if you feel having that weekly meeting

where you get weighed, having to pay that weekly fee, having to face

the other group memebers, if all of that will motivate you to stay on

plan, then give it a try. But, you don't NEED to pay all that

money. BFL gives you a great paln. All you have to do is follow it

and you should see great changes.

Why won't they pay for van mods? I've already been told that in KY when h

graduates from College (or high school although not going to college is NOT an

option) and is going into the work force, they will pay for the adaptions but

not the van. My friend (who has limb-girdle MD) had just gotten her van

last winter before we left KY and it was awesome. They can put joystick controls

in, but she chose the small easy turn wheel and touchpad computers. She even let

h sit in the drivers " seat " . Anyway, my entire point was..... maybe you

should just move to KY. *LOL*

Hello Everyone,

Darlene, I feel a warm sweet feeling every time I read these messages from you.

You are precious.

I am happy to say I think I have finally resolved the problem with my computer.

I used Norton to detect the errors and found one very bad one that I think may

have been causing the conflicts with the new high speed internet access I set up

on my computer.

I have missed you all so much. I am praying this fixes everything so I can be

back full time.

My unpacking is finished to the point that I can relax and get back to life.

I do have a few trips before the new year but nothing serious so here I am and I

am SO HAPPY to be back on line.

I have loved seeing my darling daughter Amber writing to the lists. Hi

Sweetheart. Your Mamma loves you. Actually I love all of you. You are the

greatest bunch of people I have ever encountered.

Amber and I have been planning some new videos for you. I decided it would be a

great idea to have her do the workouts while I give you the detailed

instructions for the positions. I am hoping right after the new year to set that

up.

I should be able to get your Commuter/Computer audio CD's completed by then too.

So many fun projects that I can take care of now.

Today is the most important day you have ever lived because it is not over and

you still have time to do something wonderful with it. It is the day of your new

beginning.

Remember to combine your positive thoughts with your positive actions for

complete success in every area of your life.

For your health-visualize your body healthy, strong, vibrant and beautiful. See

yourself doing all the things you would really love to do. See yourself wearing

your ideal outfit and feeling great in it. See the mental images clearly in you

mind.

Now add the physical action of doing your Life Lift breaths, drinking plenty of

water, eating every couple of hours, (keep your body fueled so it will not hang

on to unwanted fat). Think of yourself as your most treasured possession. Think

of how truly amazing you are in all of your abilities to see, to hear, to feel,

to communicate with others. Think of how wonderful it is that you can put your

legs on the ground and walk each day. Think of your own personal qualities.

Those things that make you special and unique. Think of them and be grateful.

Gratitude is the great generator. It can help you reach for your dreams with an

attitude that will allow them to become real.

Love to all,

Rashelle

Welcome to the group BJ! Sounds like you are doing a great job! Keep it up! :)

HELLO EVERYONE

Hi, my name is BJ and i've been doing BFL for about 3 weeks now.I'm

so glad to have found this site to stay in touch with other women who

are doing the same thing.I am an over 50 formerly fit female who

wants to get her healthy body and positive outlook back. This program

has helped me do just that.Well i'm not there yet but working on it.I

have 50lbs to lose and my bf% is an embarresing 44%.But i'm focusing

on my progress, and feeling so much better already. My weight loss

isn't that much but my clothes are definitly looser. My biggest

problem has been getting back into an exercise routine.I have bad

arthritis in my knees and i've gotten so out of shape that i can't

get my heart rate up to really get to my high point.I,m just taking

it slow and I do see some improvement in what i can do.I'm now able

to work up to 3.3 mph with a 3% incline ;which is really so little

compared to what i used to do some years back.I've got the ubwo down

real good, no problem. The lbwo is so hard because of my knees.I can't

do squats at all.I have to be so careful with the leg extensions not

to use to much weight I can do a few of the leg exercises but i dont

feel i'm getting the intensity to get a really good lbwo.Any ideas

would really be appreciated. For now i,m doing ok but would like to

get more into the working out part.Do you think if i worked out

longer on the treadmill that would make up for some of the things i

can't do? Glad to be here and wish everyone a great week

Hi BJ

I have an old knee injury that makes squats and leg extensions a no

go. I find the eliptical walker much easier on my knees than the

treadmill (no impact!). My LBW include two types of standing calf

raises one with feet straight and one with feet at 45 degrees - I

concentrate on keeting my butt tight and knees slightly bent to

reduce the stress on them. I easily hit my tens for calves. For

hamstrings I do the early sets as dead lifts (again with knees

slightly bent) and seated leg curls for the last set (again I can

usually hit 10s for this muscle group). My quads are the biggest

problem another woman on this group suggested straight leg lifts

which I find pretty good - you lie on your back with your legs

straight and then lift one leg to 45 degrees off the floor (keep the

leg straight) pause at the top then slowly lower back to the floor.

She said that she uses strap on weights to increase the intensity but

I don't have any of those yet but the basic version gives me a bit of

a work out. I'm planning to talk to a physiotherapist about other

possibilities. At the moment I'm not able to get to 10s on my quads

which is frustrating but I figure its only one muscle group (even if

it is a big one).

Good luck with your challenge

Congratulations!

>I do have some will power..

It's not just will-power that we need to be successful in our weight loss

journey - it's making the right choices. If you tell yourself you can never

eat a piece of cake again for the rest of your life, what would you do? Most

likely obsess over that piece of cake, and the next time you see one you'll

be all over it, then feel guilty afterwards. *Plan* on eating that piece of

cake and shift the rest of your daily food plan around it, and you'll no

longer obsess over it and you'll enjoy it when you eat it.

Exercise is another important part of weight loss. In the beginning, it may

take all your energy just to walk around the block, but if you increase the

amount you do little by little, in time you'll be doing all the exercise

your body needs each day and enjoy it!

>Hope you have

Hmm, you seem to have pulled too many days off your calendar there. It's

only Thursday. :)

But I'll hope to have a good weekend when it comes around. Thanks.

Welcome ,

It is so good to read your story, have been wondering about you

since we met in Chat. I just read your story and it brought tears to

my eyes. You have a great writing style. I think you may be a secret

writer inside, I have half sisters your age and they cannot communicate

as well as you.

You have come to the right place for sure. I was also just diagnosed

this past April after almost 2 years of the same symptoms as you. Kept

thinking I

had the flu. Fever, joint pain, sick to my stomach, sore throat. My fevers

never

went as high thank goodness. I saw two infectious disease doctors that said

the same thing. Not in my specialty. I also saw just about every other

specialist that there was. Sounds like you found a great Rheumy by what you

said about her.

I also took Trazodone for Sleep, only 50 mg though and after a year it

stopped working for me. I am sleeping much better now that my pain is more

under control. I hope things are getting better for you. I chat with

Kelley on Messenger and Aol so if you ever want to chat send me your info.

Take care.

Luv ya

-- Hello everyone

Hello everyone. My name is . I am 16 years old. I was diagnosed

with Stills Disease in April. For the past year I had been really sick.

It seemed that every other month I would get sick with flu like symptoms. I

would have extremely high temperatures, vomiting, sore throats, my whole

body would just hurt and ache. One night towards the end of March I was at

work ( I HAD a waitressing job ) and my right side started hurting. It hurt

so bad I couldn't even stand up, or drive home. I had to call my Mom and

make her come get me. Whenever we got home, I went straight to bed. I can

remember laying in bed with five quilts on top of me, crying, thinking to

myself, what was going on. My Mom came in my room at one in the morning,

and said come on, I'm taking you out to the emergency room. She said I had

that gray look to my face and my temperature was now up to 106. Whenever we

got out to the emergency room, they ran some test and took some blood. My

white blood count was extremely high, and since my right side was hurting,

they said it was my appendix and it needed to be removed ASAP. So I had

emergency surgery and my appendix was removed at 8 o'clock that morning.

After the surgery was over, the doctor came in my room and said that the

appendix was fine. But I no longer had the pain in my right side. I still

had a high temperature, and then that next day a faint rash appeared on my

face and arms. My doctor continued to run test, but couldn't figure out

anything. After being in the hospital for 2 days, having an unnecessary

surgery, and still not knowing what was wrong with me, my parents we're a

little bit frusterated. My doctor then decided it was time for me to go to

a bigger hospital 2 1/2 hours away. I was rushed by ambulance to a hospital

in Wichita, Kansas to see an infectious disease specialist. When I got

there he did more test. Another 5 days passed, and we still knew nothing.

I still had 104-106 temperatures, chills, vomiting, and the rash. The

infectious disease specialist came in and said he had done everything he

could, and what I had was not in his field. He said he was going to send a

rheumatologist in. My family and I were like a rheuma.... what?! We had

never even heard of a rheumatologist before. This was all very new to us.

She came in and did more testing. She finally gave me 800mg of prednizone

through my IV. It was like a miracle drug! My temperature was gone, and I

was ready to get the heck out of the hospital. I did a little bit of

whinning around to my rheumatologist and told her that my temperature was

gone, I was 2 1/2 hours away from my friends, I was still in school, and I

just wanted to go home. She said that I could go home, but she explained to

me I was still sick, and the prednizone was just like a band-aid. She also

said she was waiting on a test to come back, and she was pretty sure she

knew what I had. She said that she thought I had something called " Stills

disease " She sent me home on 80mg of prednizone and I had to come back in

one week. Whenever my family and I got home, we did some research on

Stills... and I was shocked. Everything that had been going on the past

year, all pointed back to Stills. It was so crazy! I knew once I did the

research, Stills was what I had. When I went back to see my rheumatologist

one week later, sure enough, she had got the tests back and Still's was what

I had. I am now on 40mg of prednizone, 400mg of plaquinel, 100mg of

trazodone(to help sleep), and tylenol3 for the pain. I am really glad I

found this, reading everyone elses post, It's nice to know there's other

people out there going through some of the same stuff and are willling to

help you with any questions.

Hello,

Fairly new and have not spoken up,

Had a few quick questions though, I have had still's for 6 years now and have

never been off of prednisone, Has anyone else been on it that long without

some sort of break from it?

Does anyone have trouble with activities such as sports like basketball, or

weight lifting?

should i give up the idea that i will play basketball again?

Do most have trouble sleeping? I wake up about every 15-30 min. every night.

Oh by the way my name is , I am 23 will be 24 next month.

Hi , the prednisone can cause some of your sleeping problems.. Are you

on any other medications? I am currently on 5mgs of prednisone, 15mgs of MTX,

1mg daily of Folic Acid and 75mgs twice a day of Volteran.. with the MTX I am

starting to feel better and am starting to be able to do more, I am going back

to my Rheumy on Tuesday. Most of my problems are in my legs and knees, I am

going to see about starting to do some upper body work outs, but will talk to my

dr first about this.. Take care..

...Welcome to the group. I was just diagnosed myself this past month. I am

38 years and have seen just about every specialist in town. No one could figure

out what is was. I have been in the hospital three times in the last year and at

last, a diagnosis. My rheumy is still trying to figure out what will work best

for me.

Hey ,

Welcome to the group

I have only been on the prednisone for about a month now so I can't help you

there, but I have had major sleep problems for 2 years and I have always

slept like a bear my entire life. They put me on Trazodone first and that

worked for about a year, tried amitriptyline and flexoril and they made me

feel severely depressed and groggy. Ambien works great but my doc won't

give me much. When my pain is under better control I seem to sleep better.

They have told me to just use tylenol pm now and that does work pretty well.

As far as activities go, right now I am limited to 10 minutes. I try to

walk for 10 minutes a day. Have you been to physical therapy? They can get

you set up on a program. They have me work with 2 lb weights and

therabands now. I also do pool therapy twice a week when I can and can be

in the pool for 30-40 minutes doing exercise. This is hard as several years

ago I was pretty into weight lifting and could leg press over 200 lbs. Now

I can barely get the top off a bottle.

Will you play basketball agian, anything is possible!!! Since my pain has

continually spread and gotten worse over the past 2 years I am not the most

hopeful but I was never a big athlete either. I miss downhill skiiing the

most. Don't think my knees could handle that right now.

Anyway there are many in the group that are physical miracles, Superman runs

20 miles a day and is in the military, you will have to talk to him when he

gets back.

Glad you are here!

-- Re: Hello everyone

Hello,

Fairly new and have not spoken up,

Had a few quick questions though, I have had still's for 6 years now and

have

never been off of prednisone, Has anyone else been on it that long without

some sort of break from it?

Does anyone have trouble with activities such as sports like basketball, or

weight lifting?

should i give up the idea that i will play basketball again?

Do most have trouble sleeping? I wake up about every 15-30 min. every night.

Oh by the way my name is , I am 23 will be 24 next month.
