Steve - When I was having alot of muscle pain & generalized soreness (fibro-type pain, I guess), a doctor recommened chromium supplements. I take 200mcg of chromium picolinate twice a day. It really did make a difference! I also take vitamin C, acidophilus, vitamin E, and a calcium/magnesium supplement.

You can go to walgreens.com and buy Cod Liver Oil in the bottle (you can even get cherry flavor!) for 6.99/16 ounce bottle... I was going to tell you to head down to you local Walgreens, but since we have none in Montana (yet) the website will have to do! At least this way it gets delivered to your door! :)

Your nutrition is probably 80% of your results, your workouts maybe 18%, and

supplementation about 2%. If you weren't happy with your results last time, look

at your food and workouts first because they're by far the biggest factor. If

you don't get those right then no supplement can compensate for it. That said,

whey protein and Myoplex make it easier to get the proper nutrition, and flax

oil can really help to curb carb cravings. Creatine helps with recovery and

muscle growth but it can cause bloating if you take too much or don't drink

enough water. Magic fat burning pills are worthless crap. (My own personal

opinion. LOL :-)

I am starting my second challenge soon. I am wondering about

supplements. I didn't take any last time and not good results. Does

anyone recommend something for maximum results.

Hi , welcome welcome welcome :-)

If you don't want to take supplements, then don't. Whole foods are

much better for you. I would suggest buying some Myoplex though.

For one, EAS USA require that you use some of their products to

enter, and secondly, it's delicious! Also it's quite hard to have 6

whole food meals per day, so shakes are pretty much essential for a

lot of people.

Also flaxseed oil (in liquid form, not capsules). It's an essential

fatty acid, and a great supplement.

Hi

Welcome!

My first suggestion to you is to read the BFL book if you have not

already. There you will get the answers to a lot of questions. It is

not about supplements as much as its about a way of life. Something

that you can keep up forever unlike South Beach or Atkins.

Get that book!!

This is going to sound completely retarded, but I take flax over Udo's because

Udo's comes in a slippery glass bottle... and I have ceramic tile floors... and

I'm clumsy. :-) When I drop stuff it just EXPLODES.

Udo's is a complete blend of EFAs whereas flax is mainly omega-3. I get a

variety of healthy fats from other sources so I'm not especially worried about

creating an imbalance. If the bottled stuff were my main fat source I'd maybe go

with a balanced oil blend like Udo's. I'd have to pour it into a plastic bottle

though! :-)

You can get either Udo's or flax at your Whole Foods Market.

What do you like better about the Udo's than plain flax oil?

Is it the taste or how it works for you?

I haven't gotten any of this yet and want to but am not sure which

route to take. Do you buy it online or at a store?

CLA is also the only other supplementI would say investigate.

You dont need supplements at all really - some are for convenience,

some are for specifics but a good variety of wholesome foods with

portion control are the BFL foundation along with daily exercise. Go

to the BFL website and read under nutrition:

Note number eight about supplements - does it say ANYWHERE there that

it's a must? Of course not! Add a daily vitamin and thats about all

to get you started - dont let this be an excuse not to start!

Hi Maggie :-)

No, you don't have to use supplements to get good results. They are

exactly as their name implies - supplements. If you can find the

time/energy to make 6 whole food meals per day - then by all means

do that instead! It's much better for you, especially if you want

to burn fat as your body has to fire up every time you put real food

into it.

I can honestly say I don't think I could do it without myoplex

though. I'd never be able to have enough protein, and I think I

would have given up through frustration at always being in the

kitchen.

Hi Maggie. I read the book too and I didn't interpret it as pushing the

supplements. In fact I think he says that the plan will work without

supplements

as long as you follow your exercise routine and eat according to plan. I have

never taken supplements and I just can't fathom drinking those shakes. I

wouldn't be able to do this plan if I had to drink protein shakes. I work out

at

home because I don't have the time or money to go to the gym. I'm a stay at

home mom whose every moment is pretty much occupied with my boys!

I fell off the wagon pretty hard in the 11th week due to some major

scheduling problems and stress but I plan to start up again very soon. You will

discover that BFL isn't a quick weight loss solution for everyone. I was

discouraged at first because the scale wasn't moving, but then when I joined

this list I

learned not to rely on the scale and I saw that a lot of people experienced

slow transformations. Even at 10 weeks I had only lost 2 pounds and I hadn't

shown any pound loss even at the 6th week. I've always had a tough time

losing. I may have not been pushing myself enough with the exercise. That's

the

hardest part for me. I just don't see how you can keep running when you're out

of breath.

If you keep at it you should see and feel changes. YOu'll hear lots of

inspiring stories here. When I first started reading the book I was very

skeptical

about the plan because the photos were so muscular. I figured that would

never happen to me and I still don't think so. Perhaps the supplements help

with

that kind of body building. I really don't know because I'm not knowledgable

about that stuff. I've actually considered trying some supplements, but I

don't know if it's worth it.

I would guess that the concensus would be Yes to Betagen HP, but beware of

initial bloat feeling, and the other stuff may not be cost -effective - not

enough of a difference to be worth what they cost.

I actually am waiting for some Betagen to arrive right now that i bought off

eBay. It's supposed to pump you up a little bit and enable you to lift more

weight, hence build more muscle.

Betagen has some good muscle-building and recovery benefits. If you search the

archive for " betagen " and page back a few screens you can find my novel about

it.

I was looking at LeanDynamX and ThermoDynamX a few weeks ago. I've actually used

or currently used a lot of the ingredients in those - things like CLA and HMB

and green tea. It's not a bad combo. Most of the ingredients they're using do

have proven benefits and some kind of safety record.

The only drawback, and the only reason I've never used any of the DymamX line is

that the price is nutso for how much of the active ingredients you actually get

per serving. If you wanted to take CLA or chromium or l-carnitine, it might be a

better deal to just go buy them separately. Although, sometimes ingredients work

synergistically, like creatine and HMB together might work better than either

one alone. If they've come up with an effective combo, who knows. Might work

great.

ThermoDynamx is a thermogenic with caffeine and synephrine. I probably would

never use the Thermo, what with my tendency to have a paranoid flip-out if I

take stimulants. :-) Might work for other people though. I sort of worry about

that yerba mate (sp) stuff. It's an herbal ingredient that's not as well

researched. I recall taking something with yohimbe before I researched it and

only later realized that it can cause paranoia and hallucinations. Like, no

wonder I feel so damn weird! I was pacing around peeking out the windows and

stuff. What was that!! Who's there? LOL

Anyway, my recommendation is: yes on the Betagen, probably on the LeanDynamX,

and be cautious with the ThermoDynamX.

This may have been discussed before, but I have a question about DMG and MSM.

Do any of you give these to your kids? If so, how does it help them? Also, are

any of your kids on Risperdal for aggression? I know I tryed DMG when Tristan

was 3 and it did have the Folic Acid with it, but it made him very hyper so he

was on it only a short time. It seems to help children with autism and we might

give it a try again. Also, are there many of you who have tryed or are using

Houston Enzymes and if so, have you seen signifcant improvement? I think the

Sells use them with good results, but does anyone else?

My son couldn't tolerate DMG or Houston Enzymes. DMG made him wildly hyper

and Houston Enzymes made him spacey. He did tolerate another brand of enzymes

though for many years but didn't seem to need them a few years ago so we

stopped using them.

My son has been on DMG or TMG with folic acid for over 2 years. It

was one of the 1st things I was able to do, after he was diagnosed.

He has always been very hyperactive. I've seen no increase in hyper-

activity when he's on it, nor have I noticed a decrease in activity

when he has been off of it. (Behavioral therapy & watching his diet

have made the most noticable changes).

I'm positive (DMG/TMG)has been a key factor in his progression, in

combination with other therapies & supplements.

Some vitamins come in liquid. Used to give one to my son and " hid " it

in his juice. Smelled terrible to me, but he drank it right down.

Now, if we give him " VitaBalls " , a gumball with vitamins in them, he

will willingly chew it. Not many vitamins in them though.

I put my son's TMG & Super Nuthera in soy milk (in a sippy cup) &

give it to him as he is waking up in the morning. He sucks it right

down. If he is fully awake, he will not drink it.

Once he shoved it back at me, & told me to drink it. I took one sip,

to prove it wasn't bad. It was horrible, I got nauseated & almost

threw up. :)
