Guest guest
Welcome...I'm new here too. I also used to show dogs in obedience and conformation. We were getting involved with agility (even had a course in my backyard), but we ended up getting out of the whole thing. I miss it so much and hope to someday get back involved. Guest guest
Hi Sara and welcome. You say she has all of her shots, but not on time. Is that because you were advised by a doctor to put them off due to her illness and surgeries? Did she get the hepb at birth? Anita Sara <zoies_momhrhs@...> wrote: Helllo, I am new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Sara and I am the mother of a wonderful little 3 year girl. I joined this group to learn more in general about vaccines, I haven't decided yet to go ahead with the 4 year shots or not but I have until October so...She has had all of her shots so far not on time but had them all the same. She was born with Complex Congenital Heart Defects, and was intubated soon after birth...she had her first open heart surgery at 3 days. And then the next 6 months flew by and she had her second and then the thrid this past June. She takes a few daily medications and has had enough antiboitics to heal a small army. I see that many of you are taking the antibotic free route and I so wish we could but its just not possible. What I am wondering about the vaccines is this; Are there any known effects on the heart from being vaccinated? I keep hearing a few people mention it. What about the liver what ill effects can they have on it? I just keep thinking what if the vaccines somehow reacted the wrong way with her and damaged her heart I would never forgive myself. She is a perfectly normal little tom boy girl...she loves to run and play and dig the only way you would know she only has half a heart is if you noticed that she is bluer than most or saw her scars. I just really want to make sure I am doing the right thing whatever I decide. We always make all of her medical decisions fully informed and I feel like I just let her get her shots without thinking about what it could do to her. I mean I had all of mine including all theHep shots and other shots for health care workers and no bad effects. Guest guest
---Anita, We weren't really advised either way, we were just told that once we were out of the hospital and back home that she would be cought up by her PCP. To be honest I never really asked another question about it. My husband and I had all of our vaccinations so I never really thought about it until recently. She had all of her Newborn Shots(DTaP,HepB, Hib,IPV) at 2 months and 5 days(i am looking at her record). So no she did not recieve HepB at birth, the only way it can be delayed is in rare circumstances when the mother is HBsAG negitive and there are doctors orders not to give it. I now wonder why she wasn't allowed to have shots at birth was it fear that they could harm her heart or just standard procedure with heart kids facing surgery? No clue on that but I am planning to try and find out. Oh and what the is the IPV shot? I just can't believe I didn't think to ask any of this when she was getting these shots what was I thinking? Guest guest
Hey Maya Welcome. Dorm food is a struggle. I have a nephew in college. Do you eat on campus like a place where you could at least make some better choices. OR maybe invest in a microwave to at least do better snacks. Let the gals know your routines and I am sure we can come up with some ideas for you. Do you eat in your room OR do you have to go to a dinning hall? 30 pounds for your first goal is a great start. It is more attainable if you look at it in small goals. NH... Mom to Abby Liz 10/94 Anne 7/
Guest guest
become an avid label reader. make a notebook of the various snacks and foods that make thier way around there and make a list of the calorie content. you can make one on the computer to make it easier and printable. once you get used to it you can pretty much eyeball something and tell if it's a no no or not. you can also use the food database at www.calorieking.com if you don't have the label for something, thier database is HUGE.Maya Kane <mayakane@...> wrote: Hi, I'm Maya, I am new here, I am 284 pounds and my first goal tolose is 30 pounds.I had a question for thoes of you who are in the know:I live on a College Campus, so I am basically confined to dorm food, Itry to make educated guesses on the calories--is there any way I canimprove my accuracy? Also, I have been trying dance videos to help me lose weight inprivate--but I am hoplessly uncordinated. Guest guest
Hi Maya and welcome! Never had to do the college food issue, so others might be able to help, but I would recommend staying away from fried, greasy foods with lots of sauces. Stick to healthier choices with fruits n veggies. I am certainly sure that others in this group have or will provide better answers LOL.... Guest guest
It does about the same thing as the online version. I just like having it on my desktop. The way it is laid out in the desktop version appeals to me visually & is easier for me to see what is going on. They do have a free 7-day trial -- give it a try.
