Guest guest
If they would use always mg it would be less confusing, especially when writing 175 mcg, instead of 0.175 mg. I use 480 mg Verapamil and 3 - 5 times that in Sodium and 10 times that in Potassium. Regards Re: potassium to get mg of sodium from grams you just mulitply by 1000. or move decimal place to right 3 spaces. Most dont need calculator to do this. Well maybe medical students do. So bread with .27 gm sodum has 270 mg. Or you can just set your daily DASH to 1.5 grams instead of 1500 mg. What ever floats your boat. Capesch? Guest guest
They were talking to me about before being diagnosed. One lady has: autoimmune hystphosis (sorry, don't know spelling) affecting her pituitary gland, so she has autoimune hypopit /secondary AI.She said she gained a lot of water weight and would swell up. She said she had to keep drinking the salt water - pre diagnosis. I don't know but I feel really ruff, right now.I feel very sick , got headache pressure, sinus is very blocked up, back of my neck is really aching, very anxious my teeth are clenching, my face looks really small again, very bloated, tight ness in my chest, very cold feet.I'm holding onto water in my legs but I've been very strict today now I know what to do. Maybe it will be better in couple of days.I've got to give it more time to even out. This is my first 'spot on' dash day!
Sorry if I am jumping the gun to quickly?Sent using BlackBerry® from OrangeFrom: Farah Rahbar <farahbargmail>Date: Fri, 26 Feb 2010 23:44:42 -0800<hyperaldosteronism >Subject: Dr. Grim a question for you on low cortisol Dr. Grim:I've been feeling quite exhausted lately. I thought that perhaps I have hypothyroid in added to my PA.As it turns out my cortisol is rather quite low, meaning 2.1(normal according to the lab is 4.0 - 22.0) - I am currently on 75mgs Aldactone for the past 4 yrs and 1000 vitamind D (for the past yr)the reason I went to the doctor is because in the past month suddenly been experiencing a lot of exhaustion and fatigue and sudden weight gain. Today I looked at low cortisol symptoms on mayo clinic site that pretty much it appears thats what I have -all of the following symptoms- which I am pasting from mayo clinic's symptoms for low cortisol :Muscle weakness and fatigue, my muscles are hurting so much, I was blaming it on low K but its not the caseWeight loss and decreased appetite - (except I have gained weight tremendously suddenly from 115 lbs to 123 in just a month)Low blood pressure, even fainting (my bp has been under 120/80 consistently, feeling very tired, exhausted)Salt craving (I have to search my cupboards for salty things or craving bread which I usually dont eat)Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), my 2 hour test was 89 after drinking the syrup so that not badNausea, diarrhea or vomiting (been feeling nausea off and on)Muscle or joint pains (a lot of it, lots and lots)Irritability - thats me latelyDepression - feeling rather depressed lately off and onAcute adrenal failure (addisonian crisis)Sometimes, however, the signs and symptoms of 's disease may appear suddenly. In acute adrenal failure (addisonian crisis), the signs and symptoms may also include:Pain in your lower back, abdomen or legs - no back pain but some abdomen and leg painSevere vomiting and diarrhea, leading to dehydration NOLow blood pressureLoss of consciousness - NOHigh potassium (hyperkalemia) - My current K is rather higher than its ever been but still within range 4.7 (reference range is 3.5 - 5.3)In fact due to all these symptoms and weight gain I was sure that my thyroid was acting up but according to the lab results my thyroid is quite within normal range - TSH, 2.03(reference range 0.40 - 4.50), Thyroxine Free .9 (reference range 0.8-1.8) surprisingly my cortisol is quite low at 2.1 taken at 8.30 am(normal for this time should be 4.0-22). I thought us PA people usually have higher cortisol!!ACTH is 6 (normal range 6-40), I had to take one Dex pill at 11:00 pm the night before taking the blood test No adrenalectomy as I've been diagnosed with hyperplasia.I am yet to see my endo next week to discuss the lab result.Does anyone else have same kind of symptoms and PA all together? this is my first experience with it after taking Aldactone for the past 4 years. could this mean that one of my adrenal glands may be failing or not functioning? I appreciate any suggestions.Thank You,Farah
Guest guest
There is a file I put on the website about my low sodium diet. I do not look on the pkg for things like carbs,fats,etc...just concentrate on low sodium and try to get things with potassium in it. I do not eat bread at all but instead have a lot of corn tortillas and use it like a wrap. I also eat potatoes, rice, any kind of noodle, and there is this one kind of frozen french fry that I can have. If it is prepared it has sodium in it and you just have to be careful. I can not have more than about 325 mg for my body. More than that I start feeling sick and a lot more than that then I feel like I am dying. I also do not eat out at fast food places either. I bring my own lunch to work. My advice is to get a lot of fresh foods that are low in sodium and makes your meals several at a time so you can package them and take them with you. It is easy to take things like fruits or vegtables to much on. I also found no sodium chips. You just got to look hard. Yes, my appointment with my first endo is on March 16th and I'm hoping to get tests to determine if I have PA and what my thryoid is doing...TSH is all over the place and still have symptoms despite being on meds and also showed high tumor marker and high antibody screen from last blood tests. --- Original Message ----- From: Clarence Grim hyperaldosteronism Sent: Sunday, February 28, 2010 12:13 PM Subject: Re: potassium On Feb 28, 2010, at 1:55 AM, moseleymandhotmail (DOT) co.uk wrote: Thanks ,Yes, I've got a feeling Iam going to have that problem too.I'm not good with milk, butter and loads but I just want to try it with the exact amount of sodium as it would be nice to have whole wheat bagel etc would make it easier to sticlk to diet.
