Hi, -

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I have 6 and 4 year old girls.

Both of them were immunized because of my " ignorance " on the subject. Now

I'm expecting our third, and like you, we decided to go with a home birth

and midwife this time, to avoid all the unnecessary medical intervention in

the conventional route babies enter the world! We are not planning to

immunize the new baby. We also home school. :0)

Anyway, welcome to the group... hope to talk to you more! Where are you?

We're in CO. Jill

Hi Alli and welcome,

It is amazing, well not really!LOL, that your doctor is NOT following AAP

guidelines stating that children should NOT receive the OPV(oral polio) for

the first two shots in the series. IT is recommended that all children get

2 doses of IPV and then 2 OPV.

Here is a great place start to your research. You will receive lots of

info. My website has lots of vaccine info links as well as other stuff.

I'm so encouraged to be a part of this list. It's only since my last 2

children that I have started to question vaccinations. My first two were

completely vaccinated including the Hep B since it was highly recommended in

Florida. I was clueless then. Before I had my 3rd child I read up on some

material about not vaccinating. My husband decided to still vaccinate but do

them one at a time and wait until our son was 2years old but since our doctor

was very nervous about that we started him at 4 months with one at a time.

We did the did the dtap and then part of the polio routine and then I learned

more and never continued. Our 4th child is vaccine-free at 8months and I'm

very happy with that.

I also found a doctor who gave all my children medical exemptions because of

a family history of allergies. It's awesome to find a doctor who lets us as

parents make those important decisions.

I am not very confident in the decision we made, but still have questions

about the Tetnus and what we should do if we live overseas.

I look forward to learning from all of you. You are a God-send. Love Marci

Hi, I'm new to this list. My name is Kathy and I have 5 children ages 6 to 16.

We are a homeschooling family.

I have always questioned vaccinations but dutifully got everyone there

vaccines until 3 years ago. Just last week I had the vaccine talk with the

doctor. He is not happy about my decision not to continue vaccinations. I

guess what finally put me over the top in not getting them was the chicken

pox vaccine. My last baby was born when it just came out and the doctors said

don't get it because chicken pox is not that bad of a childhood illness. At

that time only children at risk were to get the chicken pox vaccine. By the

time my baby got older it became a routine vaccine and doctors hailed it as

getting rid of thelast scourge of childhood diseases. That really got me

thinking that none of the childhood illness were that bad in the first place.

I asked my elderly neighbor about them since she would have seen everyone get

them, and she confirmed they were not that bad.

Then our state made Hep B mandatory and I did research on that one too, and

declined that vaccine. Now I need to find out how to make sure legally in my

state I document that I made an informed decision not to vaccinate.

I hope to learn a lot on this list from you all.

Dear Kathy,

Welcome to the vaccine list. I would love to connect with you directly.

Our children are 3 1/2 and 2 and we plan to homeschool. Kaisha, our oldest,

we vaccinated once with the results outlined on Goulet's post last

week I think (she passed on to the list the story I wrote of Kaisha's DPT

reaction for Birthing Magazine). After much research and agonizing we have

not vaccinated further in our family.

Welcome Marcy:

I understand your concern over making the right decision. Especially

with all the information that is specifically pro-vaccine. I encourage

you to do more research and never stop. The more the better, the more

confident you will feel about your decision. One book that I have found

very helpful is by Randall Neustaedter called The Vaccine Guide...it

goes through every vaccine. Neil 's books are very easy to read

and excellent too! Finally, the book Smart Medicine for a Healthier

Child really calms those fears if your child gets one of the diseases.

Each disease along with everything else (ie. teething, etc) is listed

with several ways of treating it from homeopathic to traditional to

everything in between.

Best of luck with your continued research.

Hello everyone, my name is and I live in St. sburg, FL. I have a

4 month old daughter, who has not received any vaccines yet. I say yet

because my pediatrician is trying to force me to get them. She just called

the other day and informed me that I had to get the vaccines or they would

drop Anevay (my daughter) as a patient. I was also given a deadline of June

11th to do so. Not sure what to do.

I have an appointment with a doctor who is a M.D. and she incorporates

conventional and holistic/alternative medicines. Supposedly, she has all

natural vaccines. I going for a consultation today, so I'll let you all know

how it goes. If anyone has any thoughts, ideas or suggestions on the natural

vaccines, I would love to hear them.

I look forward to meeting all of you and I am very excited to be on this

list, I'm still trying to go through the archives, just hard to catch up when

I have a little one. Thank you for allowing me to join your list.

Just my opinion, but I would DROP THE PEDIATRICIAN immediately.I think it is

morally wrong and medically unethical to push parents into doing anything to

their child they do not feel comfortable with.Your child would be better off

without the likes of her!

And what if your daughter ,if she were vaccinated ,was to get a disease

covered by one of the vaccines?Would they refuse to treat her then? How

horrible that people we hire to help us treat our children's illnesses;do not

really seem to have the best interests of the child in mind.Nor do they

respect a parents choices in how the parent wants to raise their children.

I hope if you do go to that other doctor that they will respect your

choices, and allow you to take the time to educate yourself on issues they may

feel you should just accept without question.BTW my daughter just turned 4

months old yesterday too,and THANK GOD,she is still vaccine free!!!!

Welcome! Sorry I'm so behind with this mail. I play with my daughter as much

as I can, so that doesn't leave tons of time for this.

I totally know how you feel about your physician and pressure. Keep looking!

Don't feel that you are doing something wrong. I am sure you have your

daughter's best interests at heart...more so than your physician...even

though they sure don't make you feel that way. Anyway, take heart. This list

is a wonderful resource...and it makes you feel less alone!

Hi everyone!

I am new to the list and thought I'd introduce myself.

My name is , I live in PA, and my husband and I have three boys, ages

7,4, and 1. Our 7-year-old was vaccinated up until he was 2. I was always

uneasy about this and after his 15-month vaccine I just didn't want to do it

anymore. My husband really felt he should be vaccinated so we got his 2-year

vaccines (whatever they are) when he was over 2 (I was putting it off!).

When I was pregnant with our second I really began questioning vaccines.

A good friend gave me Neil 's first book, which was fascinating!! I

also read many articles on the subject and just became convinced that

vaccination is not in the best interest of my children!! I also read Dr.

Mendelson's book " How to Have a Healthy Child....In Spite of Your Doctor " -

great book! I came to the conclusion that, though I hope my children don't

get pertusis or the measles or any of those illnesses, the dangers of

vaccines are greater than the dangers of those " horrible childhood diseases " .

In addition to the possibility of reaction, I believe the greater problem

with vaccines is the weakening of the immune system that they cause. I

believe that, should my children get these illnesses, I would get them

medical care and care for them through it and they would be fine, and their

immune systems would be stronger because of it. However, the vaccines may

prevent them from getting the disease (they don't always), but will weaken

their immune systems in the process. I have seen this in my 7-year-old, who,

although a healthy boy, has had more sicknesses than the other two boys. He

also had a chronic cough from the time he was two until about four. I

believe it was related to the vaccines.

I do my best to feed my children nutritiously and we all take lots of

vitamins. AND the best immunization comes from breastfeeding!!

So, there's my intro. Sorry to be so long! I'm looking forward to the

support and information in this list.

Hi everyone,

My name is Juli and I have a 13 month old son, who I did not want to

vaccinate but fell under the pressure and threats doctors who told me he

would not be allowed into school or sports. Since that time I have found

other parents throughout the internet who have chosen not to vaccinate their

children. I am now expecting our second child in December and this time will

not surcome to the same pressures. I am looking for advise on how parents

deal with the school and sporting clubs specifically in Pennsylvania. Thank

you.

I have found the post very good on this list and look forward to more.

Hi Juli,

My name is Dawn, I am a mother of three-9yrs, 5yrs, and 7mo. 2girls and then

my son.

My middle daughter was damaged to the point of not walking and using her

limbs from MMR shot at 15 mo. I was not informed of the reactions that can

occur and are not the so-called " rare " but more often! So if it is one

common thing with most of us....

is you learn from experience and try to save another from the same results.

The key is to stand by your convictions. It is one thing to have beliefs

and another to have convictions. Stay strong and know you are not the only

one and you have support here.

Hope all is well with your pg. Has your child reacted to any shots so far.

Remember the usual side effects are just as damaging, the CDC and FDA have

just minimized them!

" As parents, we do the best we can with what we know at the time we know it "

Thank you .

My son Cameron is 12 months old. He has had all of his vaccines up to this

point. He is due the MMR and i am extremely reluctant. I have met several

families within the past several months who believe that their child's autism

was caused by the MMR.

Cameron is allergic to corn and possibly dairy. He has had a rouhg road

since he was born. It took me until he was 5 months before i was able to

diagnosis him with corn allergies. In the meantime, the doctors did a barum

swallow, a blood gas, all kinds of bolld tests and the only thing that they

could come up with was that he had reflux. But, what caused the reflux and

why did it continue??? More than likely due to the corn allergy.

I recently read the ingredients of the MMR and discovered that it contains

SORBITOL, a corn derived ingredient. My son reacts within 445 minutes to an

oral medicine. How would he raect with an injection into his system?? I do

not want to find out.

Hi,

My name is Tonya. I have three children. The first has had all of his

immunizations. The second has had all up to age 3. My third age 2 1/2 has had

none. I always felt reluctant to get the first 2 immunizations. They were

constantly behind schedule because I didn't feel right about it but didn't know

what else to do. When Malachi came along for some reason I felt that it was

very important for him to not receive his. That is when I really started to

doing research and finding out all of the scary and harmful things that can

happen. Malachi has always been pretty healthy except for an allergy to milk.

We have been able to avoid all antibiotics up to this point and have tried not

to contaminate his system with things that would discourage his immune system to

build itself naturally.

Since, we have discovered his milk allergy, I have become even more determined

that he will not receive any immunizations at this time. His body has enough to

deal with. This decision did not come easy and is not without battles

occasionally, but with each opposition I become reaffirmed in my beliefs that I

am doing the right thing for my children.

I look forward to hearing others information and stories and talking with all of

you.

Inform you doctor of this possibility and ask for a medical exemption, if he

won't give you one, switch doctors.

Ps. I wouldn't take a chance on a reaction.

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Dany Atkinson

and I am very interested in any information regarding adverse effects from

vaccinations and that is why my sister Nadine Bridges introduced me to this

list. Let me take you back for a moment to the year 1991 - I was taking my

then 6 and 1/2 yr old son Will (he is now 14) to get his one of his

vaccinations and while I was there I was told that I should get an MMr

booster so to show my son how brave mommy was I got the stick. This is when

my whole world collasped. I proceeded to get very ill, unable to figure out

what was wrong with me they said I had chronic fatigue. This lasted a good

two years until about the time I got pregnant with my second son Steele.

Steele was diagnosed autistic when he was 17 months old. He has never been

vaccinated and I am sure that is the reason why he has recovered so

dramatically. I am so sure that the MMR that I received had alot to do with

his diagnosis. I look forward to all my E-mails regarding this very hot and

debated issue of whether or not vaccinations are neccessary and if they art

all safe.

Hi Everyone - I'm glad I found this list. I hope I can get some good

information here. I have two boys, ages 12 and 6. My older son went through

the normal childhood vaccination routine, and I never questioned it too much.

My husband is a nurse practitioner and I am a registered nurse. We are both

trained in the medical model and never really questioned the vaccines. They

were required for school and so he got them. The only thing he didn't get

was the hepatitis B vaccine. I figured if I could work for 10 years as an

emergency room nurse without it, then he didn't need it either. Since it is

a series of 3 shots, I just decided against it. He was never in daycare.

My younger child is 6 and he also had the routine vaccines in infancy,

although I did not get the hepatitis vaccine for him either. But we have

been homeschooling both boys for the past 1-1/2 years, so he has never

attended public school. I have not gotten the " required " kindergarten shots

for him and the longer he goes without them, the more I have been rethinking

the whole vaccination thing. I have recently begun trying to get more

informed about the dangers of vaccines and the political issues behind

mandatory vaccine laws.

Everyone in my family thinks I'm nuts and can't understand why he hasn't had

his 5-year-old vaccines yet.

Any advice, information or support would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Becca
